What our reviewers found

Pros

  • Zoned, cut-cell foam spreads your weight evenly.
  • With no springs, very little movement crosses the bed.
  • Sold in Medium and Firm.
  • Made in a UK factory holding the Guild Mark and the BSI Kitemark.

Cons

  • All foam, so it sleeps warmer than a sprung mattress.
  • Less push-back for restless sleepers who turn a lot.
  • No springs, unlike the sprung HealthPRO models that share its name.
  • "Medical Grade" is a trademark, not a medical standard.

The Mammoth HealthPRO Precision Mattress is an all-foam mattress with a lot of health language on the label, and I'd buy one of Mammoth's sprung HealthPRO models before it. It suits back sleepers and couples who want a still, even foam feel and don't run hot. "Medical Grade" is Mammoth's own trademarked name for its foam, not a medical standard, so judge it as foam.

Zoned foam over two support foams, and no springs

The comfort layer is 60mm of Mammoth's Medical Grade foam in three zones, with PostureCells cut into it so small blocks of foam move separately under you. Below that are an AdaptPro support foam and a firmer reflex foam, under a deep quilted top whose WAVE fabric has carbon particles infused into it. It's 28cm deep and no-turn, and Bensons sells it in Medium and Firm.

Expect an even, quiet surface. Cut-cell foam spreads your weight, and with no springs there's no bounce to carry a partner's movement across the bed. The trade-off is heat and lift: all-foam beds run warmer than sprung ones, the channels between the cells help without changing that, and foam gives you less push-back when you turn over.

Mammoth has a partnership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, and says the society has given it design and testing expertise for over a decade. A tie with a professional body is worth more than most badges on a mattress, but it's a partnership with the brand, and it doesn't turn a foam mattress into a treatment.

Who it suits and who should skip it

Back sleepers of average weight who like a settled feel should take the Firm, and couples woken by a restless partner will like how still the surface stays. Side sleepers who choose Medium get a zoned top that lets the shoulder in a little. This is a new model with no owner reviews yet, so the verdict rests on the build.

Avoid it if you sleep hot; I'd put a sweaty sleeper on springs every time. Skip it if you change position a lot, because foam that cradles you also hangs on to you. And skip it if you assumed HealthPRO meant pocket springs, because the Precision has none, unlike the sprung models that share its name.

What to buy instead

Mammoth's sprung HealthPRO models, the Elite, Ultra and Advance, put dual-layer pocket springs under the same 60mm zoned foam, and that's the build I'd buy: the same cushioning with better airflow and more lift. If you like the idea of zoned foam but sleep warm, a latex-topped pocket-sprung mattress gives you pressure relief without the heat.

Suitability

  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

Questions and answers about the Mammoth HealthPRO® Precision Mattress

Common questions answered by our team first, then questions shoppers asked the retailer, with the retailer’s own answers.

Common question
What is Medical Grade foam?

Answer: It's Mammoth's trademarked name for the foam in its comfort layers. On the Precision it's a 60mm layer in three zones, cut into PostureCells so sections move separately. "Medical Grade" is a brand name and not a regulated category, so judge the foam by its thickness, its zoning and how firm you like a bed.

Common question
Should I choose the Mammoth HealthPRO Precision in Medium or Firm?

Answer: Pick by weight first, then position. Lighter and average-weight side sleepers suit Medium, so the zoned top can let the shoulder in, while back sleepers and heavier sleepers suit Firm. Front sleepers should take Firm too, because a softer foam top lets the hips drop.

Common question
Does the Mammoth HealthPRO Precision have springs?

Answer: No. It's built entirely from foam: the zoned comfort layer, an AdaptPro support foam and a reflex foam layer. That keeps a partner's movement on their own side, but it runs warmer and feels less springy than the pocket-sprung HealthPRO models.
