Why our sleep experts loved it
I tested the Arn Ottoman Bed Frame in store in the ivory fabric, and the headboard was the first thing I noticed. The vertical fluting looked straight and evenly spaced, with none of the slightly wobbly channel stitching I have seen on some cheaper upholstered frames. My reservation is the shape. I like rounded headboards, and this one has a crisper, sharper outline than I would choose for my own room. Quality, yes. Softness, not so much.
How it looks and what it does
The ivory finish suited the frame better than I expected. Under natural light it had a cleaner sheen than several alternatives I saw nearby at Furniture Village, and the upholstery felt properly padded when pressed rather than thin over board. There are around a dozen colours to choose from, so the Arn should be easy enough to match to most bedroom schemes, provided you are happy with the fairly formal shape.
The tall headboard gives the bed a polished, almost hotel-like look. That will appeal in a main bedroom, although it is not a relaxed design in the way the Loaf Frenchie bed is. The Arn feels straighter and more architectural. A calm room could take it well; a small room with lots of square furniture might start to look a bit stiff.
Storage is the practical reason to consider it. This is an end-opening ottoman, so the mattress platform lifts from the foot end and opens up the base for bedding, spare pillows or clothing. Handy. You do still need clear space in front of the bed, and the recessed mattress position makes the whole frame feel visually substantial. I would not squeeze it into a tight room and expect it to disappear.
Frame, slats and lifting action
The frame felt solid on the shop floor. The padded sides had a reassuring density, the natural wood feet looked simple and sensible, and the sprung slatted aspen wood base gives the mattress some flex underneath. It did not have that rattly, lightweight feel I often find on budget ottomans.
The lift mechanism made a good first impression. It rose smoothly in store, and the gas lifts felt stronger than the ones on a few cheaper frames I have handled. Mattress weight is the catch. Furniture Village lists maximum mattress weights of 90 kg for double, 100 kg for king and 110 kg for super king, and those limits matter. A heavy hybrid mattress can turn an easy showroom lift into a shoulder workout at home, and it may also make the platform less keen to stay up.
My testing was in person, not over months of ownership, so hinge durability remains the open question. Ottoman beds often reveal their weaknesses after repeated lifting, when bolts loosen or the mechanism starts to pull unevenly. I would have liked to see how it copes after a year of being opened every weekend for towels and spare duvets.
Who should shortlist it
The Arn is available in double, king and super king sizes, so it covers the usual main-bedroom choices. It makes most sense for someone who wants storage without moving to a divan base. Compared with many Bensons for Beds ottoman frames I have tried, the Arn has tidier headboard detailing and nicer upholstery to the hand, while Bensons often feels more storage-first in the way its ranges are presented.
The premium fabric option is the one I would focus on. Furniture Village also offers standard fabric in limited colours, though the nicer textures are what make this bed feel worth considering. Pale upholstery will need care. The cleaning guidance about using a soft brush or vacuum attachment is sensible, and oil-based stains are best left to a professional cleaner. Direct sunlight could also age some fabrics faster than you expect.
Assembly should be manageable for two people. Not solo. The parts are bulky, and an ottoman mechanism needs to sit squarely from the start or the lift can feel awkward. The warning not to sit on the foot end while opening is worth taking seriously too, as the pressure is in exactly the wrong place for the mechanism.
My buying call
I would choose this frame in a darker textured fabric, not the ivory I saw, simply because a working bedroom is rarely kind to pale upholstery. The guarantee helps, and the showroom sample gave a good impression of build quality, yet the Arn is best for buyers who like crisp lines. Anyone wanting a softer, cosier bed frame should keep walking past it and try something with a rounded headboard before ordering.
