Why our sleep experts loved it
I saw the Flair Ottoman Bed Frame in store, and my reaction was mixed from the start. It is clearly aiming at the premium upholstered ottoman market, with a tall fluted headboard, recessed mattress base and end-opening storage, but a few design choices stopped it feeling as polished as it probably should for this category.
The main issue for me is the headboard. The vertical slatted detail is fine in isolation, yet it sits as a panel rather than running neatly to the edges, and that gives the whole thing a slightly odd framed look. Odd choice. The square corners also feel a bit dated going into 2026, where softer rounded edges are starting to look much fresher on upholstered beds.
How it looks in the room
The Flair has presence, but it is not a universally easy style. The tall, square-edged headboard will suit a room that already has clean lines and fairly modern furniture. In a softer bedroom, it may look a bit too rigid. I preferred the general feel of the Dreams Wilson Upholstered Ottoman for a similar broad category, as its softer shaping feels easier to live with visually.
The recessed mattress base is worth noting. Furniture Village presents this as a style feature because it shows off the padded side rails, and yes, it does make the bed look more finished from the side. The trade-off is height. It came across as a low-rise frame in store, so a thinner mattress could leave you sleeping closer to the floor than expected. A deep mattress will help, although it may still sit visually tucked into the frame.
Build and ottoman mechanism
The end-opening ottoman felt sturdy during my showroom test. The manual lift action was smooth enough, and the handling points did feel better than the flimsy tabs you get on some cheaper storage beds. Furniture Village lists maximum mattress weights of 90 kg for double, 100 kg for king and 110 kg for super king, and I would take those limits seriously. A heavy hybrid or natural-fill mattress could make the lift feel far less friendly at home.
The sprung slatted aspen wood base is a sensible inclusion. It should give a mattress a little flex and ventilation, although it will not suit every mattress brand equally, as some makers prefer a flatter platform. I would check your mattress warranty before pairing it with any slatted ottoman. Annoying paperwork, yes, but better than finding out later that the base has caused an issue.
The fabric choice is where I became more sceptical. The premium upholstery looks good from a few steps away, and the choice of textures and colours is a plus. Up close, some areas on the shop model already showed a sheen. That may have been the pile brushed in different directions, but it still made me question how forgiving the fabric will be after daily contact, sunlight and regular vacuuming. I could not test long-term wear in a showroom, so this is a caution rather than a verdict on failure.
Who it suits best
This bed makes most sense for someone who wants a storage frame with a crisp, hotel-ish look and already owns a deep mattress. The underbed compartment should be useful for spare bedding and out-of-season clothes, and an end-lift design is practical in rooms where side access is tight.
People with very slim mattresses should pause. The recessed base and padded side rails may make the overall sleep height feel lower than your current bed. Anyone with mobility concerns should try the display model in person before ordering, because getting in and out may not feel as effortless as the showroom styling suggests.
The sharp-cornered design also makes me hesitate for family homes. It is upholstered, so it is not the same as catching yourself on a bare wooden edge, but the shape still feels harsher than current rounded bed frames from brands like Loaf. Trend point aside, softer corners are just nicer to move around in a tight bedroom.
My final take
I would only choose the Flair in a lighter, textured fabric after seeing a full swatch in daylight. Darker plush finishes may show pressure marks and sheen quickly, and the shop model did not reassure me enough on that point. The storage mechanism is the strongest part of the bed; the styling is the part I would want to live with for ten minutes in store before committing.
