Why our sleep experts loved it
I tested the Henry Ottoman Bed Frame in store before writing this, and I have to say I came away with the impression that it hits a very likeable sweet spot between classic and contemporary. The Chesterfield-style buttoned headboard gives it a tailored, gently glamorous look, while the lower profile means it sits neatly under most windows without being overly dominant. At its current sale price it also feels fairly priced for what you get. If it were to go back to the original ticket, I would struggle to justify the outlay.
Design & Build This is a hand-upholstered ottoman bed with proper pleating and generous padding, so it looks plush rather than flat. You can choose between velvet or a linen-look fabric in a range of colours, and the upholstery quality is consistent around the sides as well as the headboard which matters if your bed is visible from multiple angles. The lower, buttoned headboard gives you that Chesterfield character without the usual towering height, which means it is an easy fit for smaller rooms or windowed walls. It is made in the UK, and in person the frame felt well put together with clean seams and a tidy finish at corners.
Assembly & Setup The frame arrives for self assembly, and the ottoman mechanism is piston assisted. As with any lift-up base, I recommend assembling it in the room of use and following the steps carefully so the lift arms are aligned and torqued correctly. Two people make life easier when attaching the base and aligning the headboard. Once built, check the lift action a few times before loading the storage to make sure everything feels controlled and even.
Comfort & Practicality Comfort from a bed frame comes down to height, stability and how the headboard meets your shoulders when you sit up. The Henry’s low, padded headboard is comfortable enough for reading, and the frame feels stable when you put weight onto the edges. Do note the stated mattress weight limit of 80 kg across all sizes. That is fine for most standard mattresses, but if you own a particularly heavy hybrid it is worth checking the spec. Day to day, the low headboard is a real plus if you are working around a window sill or a sloped ceiling.
Storage This is an end-opening ottoman with a roomy compartment, so you can lift from the foot of the bed to access the full under-bed space. The piston-assisted lift helps take the strain, but you should still guide it with two hands and keep bedding clear of the hinge area. I would line the base with fabric boxes to keep duvets and out-of-season clothes organised and to protect the upholstery from scuffs. As with any ottoman, avoid overloading one side so the lift remains balanced.
Everyday Use In everyday living the Henry behaves like a practical storage bed that happens to look smart. The fabrics are attractive, but treat them like you would a decent sofa: vacuum with a soft brush weekly, and keep it out of strong direct sunlight where possible to reduce premature wear. I did not notice any hidden surprises moving around it in store, and the product images are a fair reflection of how it presents in person. The Chesterfield detailing adds texture without being fussy, which makes it easy to pair with both plain and patterned bedding.
Value At the current sale price the Henry Ottoman Bed Frame represents good value for a hand-upholstered ottoman with this level of finish and storage capacity. At the original price it would be harder to recommend given the competitive market at that tier. If you like the look, and you are buying at the reduced price, it is an appealing buy that gives you design interest as well as storage.
Final verdict A handsome, space-savvy ottoman that blends a classic buttoned headboard with a lower, window-friendly profile. The build felt solid when I saw it, the fabrics are well executed, and the end-opening storage is generous and easy to live with. Keep an eye on pricing, stick to the care advice for the upholstery, and this is a very likeable choice for most bedrooms, particularly where you want a bit of Chesterfield charm without the height or the fuss.
