The promise of comfortable travels is extended to a portable travelling companion like the TEMPUR® Comfort Travel Pillow, now sold as the TEMPUR® Cloud Travel Pillow, curiosity is piqued and expectations heightened. After all, it's not just about travel. It's about converting every moment of rest into a posture-perfect, refreshing experience. We set out to explore this touted comfort marvel in detail.
How we assessed it
The build is simple: a 26cm by 40cm block of TEMPUR® Material memory foam, 12cm deep and rated medium. Foam of that depth should mould closely under a neck or into the small of a back, but on paper it looks small under a whole head for a full night. The listing describes the foam as softer in warm temperatures and firmer in cold ones, so expect it to start out stiffer in a chilly car. Owners use it the way the size suggests. One writes 'Perfect, portable size. Great for back support as well as neck support.' Another says it 'supports my neck when sitting up in bed'.
Design and Features
The TEMPUR® Cloud Travel Pillow is compact, rightfully justifying the 'travel' appendage to its name. With measurements that seemed to have carry-on convenience in mind, the pillow earns its stripes as a portable comfort accessory. But is the size truly that of a travelling companion? The pillow is clearly not large, and while that works to its advantage as a travel accessory, if you're accustomed to full-sized pillows, this one may leave you feeling short-changed. Size does matter, after all!
Construction
Peeling back the layers of the travel pillow, the spotlight is taken by the visco-elastic cell structured TEMPUR® Material foam. Known for its body weight distribution and absorption properties, this foam is impressive in offering pressure relief. Its capability of contouring around your head, neck, and shoulders is a big vote in its favour, promising to deliver consistent support. However, for all the visco-elastic marvel, there is a certain thinness in the pillow. And unless thin pillows have been your preference, this aspect might present itself as a disappointing compromise.
Suitability
This pillow earns marks for versatility. From garden chairs and sofas to long journey relaxation, it's a companion designed for diverse circumstances. The double-sided feature, promising lasting comfort and the removable washable cover for prolonged freshness, attempts to address the hygiene and durability concerns of the user. Do these features make up for the pillow's thinness? That might be a matter of individual preference. However, a nagging feeling suggests that for discerning users seeking an all-rounder travel pillow, the equation may seem a bit skewed.
What Customers Thought
Customer reviews are a veritable source of opinion that gives a clearer picture of a product's strengths and weaknesses. For the TEMPUR® Cloud Travel Pillow, the response has been generally favourable. Users praised it for its portability, underlining its role as a big help in offering back and neck support. For some, the pillow extended beyond its role as a travel accessory, serving as an effective support for their hip. Indeed, its comfort and support were so highly rated that some customers even bought additional pillows for their family members. However, our perspective here is not just about echoing popular sentiment, but about critically assessing the product and highlighting potential areas for improvement.
The Verdict
While the TEMPUR® Cloud Travel Pillow scores on several fronts, like portability and versatility, it falls short in the crucial area of thickness. The merit of its construction cannot be overlooked, but thinness could potentially compromise comfort, especially for those accustomed to fuller pillows. The customer verdict may tilt towards the positive, but for discerning buyers, the thinness issue could damper the enthusiasm towards this product.
Overall, while the TEMPUR Cloud Travel Pillow can claim to be a fine travel-friendly sleep product, the critique of its thinness cannot be avoided. For a brand bearing the weight of expectations riding on its namesake full-sized pillow, this product does present as a bit of a letdown. However, for those seeking specifically small, portable comfort solutions, this pillow might still be a worthy contender to explore.
