As a mattresses and home goods enthusiast with a decade-long industry experience, today I'm going to share an in-depth review of the Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base. Having observed this product first-hand in store, the review is grounded on keen analysis which resonates with my expertise in the field. Here's the specifics of this divan bed base and whether it's truly worth investing in or if it's another disappointment veiled beneath a robust brand name.
Design and Features
The Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base, as the name suggests, holds claims of bearing a modern aesthetic that fits seamlessly into your bedroom. Its design has been carefully upholstered in an array of plush fabrics and colours for you to choose from, ranging from the luxurious velveteen to a comfortingly warm linen blend. The choice of fabrics and colours allows you to personalise your bed base, tailoring it to blend effortlessly with your existing bedroom ambience.
This Divan Bed Base features a slimline 30-cm depth, allowing it to fit seamlessly into rooms of varying sizes. It's accentuated with durable chrome glides that form a sturdy base while being kind to your floors or carpet. The element that enhances its functionality is the options for drawer configuration, which you can select according to your storage suitability. The base is also fitted with a platform top that serves as a supportive mattress base, aiding in creating a snug resting place. To keep the design sleek and toned down, the hardware is kept concealed with discreet fastenings. The base also features a non-slip fabric, ensuring your mattress remains firmly held atop, preventing unnecessary nocturnal movements.
Its manufacturers promise excellence by mentioning the use of responsibly sourced timber, thereby reassuring you of ethical sourcing. The UK-based craftsmanship adds a sense of trust in the manufacturing process while the bonus of a 10-year guarantee indicates their confidence in the product's durability and longevity.
Construction
Examining the construction of the Sleepeezee Divan Bed Base, it appears to be a reliable combination of aesthetics and functionality. The upholstery choice may cater to your personal taste, but going beyond the facade, the divan base has drawn claims towards being of mediocre quality. One owner wrote that "the underside shows the construction quality of the units is poor", which may not seem impressive, especially considering the high-end price tag attached to the renowned brand name. However, the base has also been appreciated for having a sound structure that provides firm support to the mattress. Hence, what it may lack in material extravagance, it attempts to make up for in the solidity.
Suitability
The design and features of the Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base suggest its aptness for those who value aesthetics as much as they do functionality. If your requirements include a balance between a visually pleasing bedroom addition and efficient storage solutions, this divan base may serve you well. The option to choose your preferred drawer configuration enables you to decide how best to use the space available, offering an effective storage solution to keep your bedroom free from clutter.
In terms of mattress support, the base is fitted with a platform top that creates a firm foundation for your mattress. This firm base can provide excellent support for those who prefer a solid, non-spring foundation for their mattress. Meanwhile, the chrome glides are sturdy, making it suitable for both carpet and floor types, and it seems to have been designed with the user's convenience in mind.
However, if you're looking for something more sophisticated in terms of material and build that warrants the price you're paying, you might want to reconsider this bed base. While it is indeed worth mentioning for its aesthetic appeal and functionality, the construction quality may not entirely mirror the outlay, being reminiscent of other divans available in the market at a lower cost.
What Customers Thought
For an unbiased assessment, let's take a look at the experiences recounted by customers who've purchased and used the Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base.
Most owners are happy with it, and the drawers get more praise than anything else. One describes "lovely roomy drawers that slide easily", and several like the continental layout because the smaller drawer still opens next to a bedside table. Sturdy is the other word that keeps coming up. One owner called it an "Excellent sturdy base". Another wrote that a "good solid construction makes a world of difference" after a creaky bed. Some say the mattress stays put on top ("Firm base, mattress doesn't slip"), though one owner with a heavy mattress wrote that it "literally glides off it nightly". The velvet finish and the colours go down well too: "I love the soft velvet texture and the colour is perfect." Plenty of owners also found it easy to put together.
However, not all customers sing the same tune. Some customers have raised concerns about the overall construction quality and durability of the build, flagging issues such as creaking noises after a month's usage. There have been instances where customers have bemoaned the "cardboard base cover" as being cheaply made and not stapled to the wood frame. Therefore, although the divan base ticks many boxes in visual appeal and utility, its longevity could possibly be a point of concern based on certain customer feedback.
The Verdict
Intrinsically, the Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base showcases a marriage of style and utility. It's a visually pleasing addition to a modern bedroom, offering a slew of fabric and colour choices for the discerning customer. The added feature of drawer configuration, non-slip fabric, and responsibly sourced timber enhances the user experience.
However, beyond the appealing exterior, there lies the potential for disappointment. Some customers have reported durability issues which, considering the price point, might make prospective buyers waver. Although it is a product handcrafted in the UK and comes with a 10-year guarantee that suggest trustworthiness, the construction material and quality could be a potential hurdle. Therefore, the final decision depends on your personal preference. If aesthetics and functionality are of utmost importance while overlooking potential quality issues seems feasible, this bed base could be a fit for you. However, if you're looking for unquestionable longevity from a luxurious brand, you might want to look a bit closer before settling on the Sleepeezee Contemporary Divan Bed Base.
