Why our sleep experts loved it
I've been looking forward to getting my hands on the Silentnight Essentials Memory Mirapocket 1000 mattress because it’s one of those “sounds great on paper” combos. When I tried it out in person, the first thing I noticed was that slow, slightly squidgy memory foam feel on top, then you can feel the Mirapocket springs pushing back underneath rather than just sinking endlessly. Mirapocket springs are interspersed with memory foam, to relieve pressure on the body while providing vital support. Running my hand across the knitted cover, it felt soft enough, but it’s not the thickest, most premium-feeling knit I’ve come across at this sort of price. The Knitted cover encases the orthopaedic support base which will mould to your body shape to provide the correct support and comfort throughout the night.
On my back, it felt nicely “held up” through the hips, and I could feel the pocket springs responding in smaller sections rather than the whole mattress moving at once. Side sleeping was a bit more hit and miss for me though - if you’ve got sharper shoulders or you’re lighter in weight, this sort of orthopaedic support base can feel a touch firm and you might not get as much give as you’d like. Also worth saying, memory foam at this depth can sleep warmer than people expect, so if you’re already a hot sleeper you may find it a bit toasty compared to a more breathable foam or a straight spring-only mattress.
The Silentnight Essentials Memory Mirapocket 1000 mattress has been designed with a hypoallergenic fabric which will help prevent dust mite allergies.
The memory foam layer delivers a deep, supportive sleep, helping to reduce tossing and turning as you slip into a deep and restful sleep. I did find it settled my position once I’d been on it a few minutes, but it’s not the easiest surface to move around on quickly - that “hug” can make it feel a bit sticky when you’re turning over, especially compared to a bouncier hybrid.
