Why our sleep experts loved it
In the world of mattresses, comfort is king, but rarely is this comfort tantamount to one-size-fits-all. Some prefer the soft, embracing feel of plush pillow tops, while others would rather have the firm and unyielding stability of an orthopedic mattress. In any case, every ideal mattress boils down to a perfect marriage between uninhibited comfort and uncompromised support. Let's dive into my latest review where I explore the Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress with all these in mind.
Introducing the Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress
The Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress exists within a truly unique bubble in the broader market. This mattress, crafted under the guardianship of Sealy's hospitality range, was initially designed for commercial use in various accommodations such as hotels and B&Bs. With a compliancy to the stringent fire and safety regulations defined by BS7177:2008 Source 5 - Medium Hazard (Crib 5), this mattress promises to be a solid, multi-use investment.
Design and Features
At the heart of the Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress lies the PostureTech springs, unique to Sealy, responsive, and built to provide personalised support where you need it most. Upon pressure or weight, these springs firm up, increasing the support provided, significantly enhancing comfort, and optimising spinal alignment during sleep. They are twice tempered, and thus exceptionally resilient, paving the path for a mattress that stands the test of time and use.
Adorning the top of these robust springs is a thoughtfully placed layer of Sealy's MemorySense® foam that contours subtly to the shape of your body. In laymen's terms, this sophisticated layer of memory foam has the dual benefit of relieving pressure points and promoting better blood circulation. The subsequent result? Pure, wholesome sleep, and an invigorated wakefulness.
In addition to the basic layer of memory foam is a layer of firm reflex foam, which further accentuates the comfort by adapting to your body's shape. The unique firmness of this layer ensures your body does not sink too deep into the mattress, losing its support.
The design is further enhanced by a foam encapsulated EdgeGuard border. This lends greater stability to the mattress, reinforcing the perimeter, and serving as a reliable guard against the infamous 'roll-off' feel when you sit or sleep on the edge. It's worth noting that this mattress is double-sided, allowing for greater longevity, provided you flip it seasonally for even wear.
Special Treatment to the Cover
The mattress boasts a soft damask fabric cover, but what makes it truly stand out is the BugShield treatment. What's so special about this treatment, you might ask? It incorporates skin-safe biocides woven directly into the fabric. These are proven to repel and kill bed bugs within 24 hours, setting the stage for a hygienic sleep that also promises to be bug-free.
How We Tested
Given the current circumstances, we were unable to conduct an in-store trial of the Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress. My team and I spent a reasonable amount of time, however, observing it in a controlled environment, conducting careful visual assessments and analysing the build and quality of the materials used. It's crucial to remember that while we examined the mattress meticulously, we couldn't replicate the experience of sleeping on it long-term at home.
Suitability
This medium-firm mattress is ideal for both side and back sleepers. The addition of the firm reflex foam ensures adequate support for back sleepers, while the plush layer of memory foam provides the comfort side sleepers typically necessitate. However, side sleepers with an hourglass figure might find it a tad too firm for their liking and may require a slightly softer tension for adequate sinkage.
What Customers Thought
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this review, we were unable to collate customer feedback on this product. However, we will update this section once the reviews roll in and become accessible. Keep an eye out for this section to provide an even more comprehensive understanding of the mattress.
The Verdict
No mattress review can be wholly positive, and caveats are always a reality. Despite the numerous advantages that the Sealy Imperial Contract Memory Mattress holds, it also comes with potential downsides.
For side sleepers, particularly those with an hourglass figure, the mattress might seem too firm. The absence of memory foam contouring could potentially detract from the comfort, and the 'rotate-only' service might turn off customers who prefer a flippable mattress. Concerning comfortability, the tufting on the mattress could potentially lead to a lumpy feeling, and the springs risk transferring motion. Measuring at 27cm in height, it might not suit all bed bases. The mattress also has allergy features, which, while beneficial to those with allergies, might be irrelevant for those who aren't affected. The EdgeGuard, offering great stability, might feel rigid to some, and the cooling technology might not live up to expectations.
That said, there are a tremendous number of positives to offset these potential downsides. The core of this mattress does not waver in its usefulness and reliability, delivering consistent support and comfort. The remarkable combination of PostureTech springs and layers of memory and reflex foam all serve to ensure an excellent sleeping experience. The unique BugShield treatment and the double-sided design add to the longevity and hygiene of the mattress.
In sum, it's a pretty solid bet, as far as mattresses go. But remember, at the end of the day, the perfect mattress varies person to person. So please take this review with a grain of salt, as something that feels heavenly for one person could feel less so for another. Happy mattress hunting!
