The Sareer Matrah Reflex Plus Pocket 1000 Mattress in a Box is a fine budget rolled pocket-sprung mattress for a first flat or a spare room. It has pocket springs, a reflex foam layer and comes vacuum-packed. It's a firm mattress, though a few owners found it softer than they'd hoped. Avoid it if you're a heavier sleeper who wants firm, and buy something deeper.
Pocket springs in a roll
Inside are 1000 pocket springs, each one independent, with reflex foam in the fillings and a stretch-knit cover. Sareer hand-tufts it, keeps it to 22cm and makes it one-sided, with nothing extra round the edges. It turns up rolled and vacuum-packed. Sareer rates it firm.
Rolled pocket springs are a good advancement, and I've no worries about them being squashed into a box. Give it the full expansion time before you judge it, and watch the depth. At 22cm, with 1000 springs, it's a lighter build than a mattress you'd keep for a decade, so I'd see it as a first-flat or spare-room buy.
Firm, though a few owners wanted firmer
Owners mostly like it and call it comfortable. A few found it less firm than described ("not as firm as I'd hoped", in one owner's words), and another found the top layer too warm. Those are a handful of voices among a lot of happy ones, so I'd still go by Sareer's firm rating.
A deeper firm bed, or a rolled hybrid
If you're heavier, choose a firm pocket-sprung mattress with more depth, such as the Highgrove Solar Pocket 1000, which is double-sided too. If you want this one's easy delivery and a cooler surface, a rolled hybrid with a fibre or latex top is the step up.
