Pros & Cons

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and a decade of industry insight.

  • Mini tablet springs in the pillowtop cradles shoulders nicely, after a long day.
  • Wool, cotton, silk and cashmere draw moisture away, ideal in warmer rooms.
  • Tightly nested pocketed coils flex independently, giving piston-like support to hips and lumbar.
  • The viscose cover feels smooth and breathable, plus it is notably hard-wearing.
  • After several nights, the pillow-top’s mini springs can feel slightly bouncy.
  • The wool, cotton and cashmere blend retains warmth, less cooling than hybrid models.
  • When rotating or lifting, the deep pocket-spring build is awkwardly heavy.

Why our sleep experts loved it

The Highgrove Pillow Cloud Pocket 3000 Pillowtop Mattress is the sort of spec sheet that makes me pause, because it’s trying to do something I usually applaud. It leans into natural comfort, proper pocket spring support, and a pillow top that is not just a bit of foam stitched on for show. I should be clear about my process here. I have not been able to test this mattress in person, because Archers is based in Scotland and I did not have the opportunity to visit. And I have not trialled it at home either. This review is built from the published construction details, my industry experience, and the customer feedback you’ve shared.

With that said, I actually like what I’m seeing. It’s not a big glossy brand, and that can put some people off. But if you care more about what’s inside a mattress than what’s printed on the label, this one deserves attention.

Design and features

The headline is in the name. Pocket 3000 tells you the support core is a dense array of pocket springs, and then there’s an additional layer of mini tablet pocket springs in the pillow top. I’m a fan of this approach when it’s done well, because it tends to create a more adaptive surface feel without losing the springy support underneath. You get that initial plushness, then a gentle pushback that stops you sinking too far. In theory, that’s a strong recipe for side sleepers who still want their spine to feel held rather than hammocked.

Then there are the fillings. Wool, cotton, silk and cashmere reads like a marketing line, but these materials do have genuine performance benefits when they’re used in meaningful amounts. They tend to breathe better than synthetic foams, they handle moisture more gracefully, and they usually feel less clammy across the seasons. The viscose fabric cover is also a good sign. It’s typically smooth, hard wearing, and more breathable than many polyester knits. But I’m always a bit sceptical here, because the feel of viscose can vary a lot depending on the blend and weave, and online specs rarely tell you enough to judge that.

Mattress comfort

On paper, this is a soft medium mattress that aims for pressure relief first, then support. That suits a lot of people, but it will not suit everyone. A pillow top with mini springs can feel wonderfully cloud like, but it can also blur the line between cosy and too sinky if you’re heavier, or if you naturally compress comfort layers quickly. If you love that floating on top feeling, you may not get it here. This looks more like a gentle sink in, then settle, then stay put.

The pocket springs should flex where you load the mattress most, so your hips and shoulders can dip without dragging your whole spine out of alignment. That piston style support is exactly what you want from a well built pocket spring system. But I will add a note of caution. Pocket counts are often used as a headline, and they don’t guarantee comfort on their own. Spring gauge, spring height, and how the upholstery is tensioned matter just as much. Still, combining a high spring count with natural fillings is usually a positive sign in this price bracket, and I think you could do a lot worse.

Suitability

This is a strong match for side sleepers, especially if you have a lower than average BMI or you simply prefer a softer surface feel. And if you have an hourglass shape, the extra sink from the comfort layers can be genuinely helpful, because it allows the hip and shoulder to settle while the waist is supported. That is often the difference between waking up loose and waking up with a stiff lower back.

I’m less enthusiastic about this for dedicated front sleepers, or for anyone who already knows they need a firmer feel to keep their hips lifted. If you are heavier, or you like a very firm, on top sensation, I’d be cautious. Pillow tops can be brilliant, but they can also feel a touch unstable for people who need a very flat, firm platform. And if you are choosing this for a guest room where lots of different body types will use it, a true medium is usually safer than a soft medium.

What customers thought

Customer feedback tends to cluster around a few themes with mattresses like this. People who buy into natural fillings usually talk about a fresher, less sweaty night and a more expensive feel than they expected. That aligns with what these materials typically do well. Wool and cotton are workhorses for temperature regulation, and silk and cashmere can add a smoother, more refined surface comfort when layered properly.

The other common thread is that pocket spring pillow tops often impress couples. Independent springs usually translate to better motion isolation than open coil systems, so one person moving is less likely to ripple across the bed. But I always treat online reviews with a bit of healthy suspicion. Comfort is personal, and some buyers confuse soft with supportive for the first few weeks. And if a mattress is very plush at first, the long term story matters. Without extended home testing on my side, I can’t promise how it will feel after months of nightly use, so I would encourage you to check the retailer’s comfort guarantee and return policy before committing.

The verdict

If you want my honest take, I like this mattress. The combination of a high pocket spring count, a mini spring pillow top, and natural fillings is a genuinely appealing build, especially at what appears to be a fairly reasonable price for the materials involved. It does not have the prestige of a premium brand name, and if that matters to you, it may not scratch that itch. But for pure construction value, it reads as thoughtful and comfort led rather than gimmicky.

My main hesitation is that soft medium pillow tops are not universally safe, and specs can only tell you so much about the final feel. But if you are a side sleeper who wants plush pressure relief with real spring support underneath, this looks like a very solid choice, and I’d be comfortable recommending it with those caveats.

  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers

    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.
