Why our sleep experts loved it
The Hatson is one of those instantly familiar yet stylish looking bed designs that seem to be everywhere. Understated but stylish, it combines a contemporary herringbone headboard design with soft velvet upholstery. I've been using and testing the Hatson for a few weeks now and would place it towards the middle of the practicality-versus-design scale, but it has both function and fashion without venturing into the territory of being overdesigned.
Design & First Impressions
The Hatson is deceivingly well made for its price. At first glance, it looks much more expensive than it is. The herringbone stitched headboard adds a boutique feel to the room without overpowering it. The velvet upholstery comes in two colour options, beige or navy, and is soft to touch and a deep, luxurious tone. I chose the beige colour, which brightens the room nicely. Proportion wise, it also has got it just right, the headboard is the right height at 116 cm, tall enough to look like a proper headboard without dominating the space. The overall vibe is calm and elegant, a bed that does not scream for attention but will upgrade any bedroom without looking out of place.
Assembly
Assembly is easy, although the frame is heavy and two people would be better than one to move it into place. The parts are all clearly labelled and the instructions are easy to follow. The bolts and fixings feel like they are of good quality and the different sections fit snugly. The drawer at the foot end is a little fiddly, mostly due to its size, but once fitted it slides smoothly and is solidly built. I'd allow two hours for assembly if going slowly and taking your time to get the alignment perfect so that the drawer fits flush and opens smoothly. Once assembled, the frame feels rock solid and stable.
Build Quality & Materials
I like a lot of things about the Hatson's build. The frame feels solid, the slats are sprung for extra bounce and flexibility, and the velvet is also well made. The slats curve gently up in a dome shape, which helps support the mattress evenly. This will extend the lifespan of your mattress and give a little more cushion to the whole feel. The headboard is well padded and firm enough to comfortably lean against, which is great for reading or watching TV. The drawer at the end is cleverly hidden and well lined, which is not flimsy or shallow as so many other beds at this price point are. The only small niggle is that the velvet is prone to collecting dust, but this can be easily brushed off with a quick once over.
Comfort & Stability
The Hatson has a sprung slatted base, which gives the mattress a little bounce without sacrificing support. It also feels very stable, even when sitting on the edge or leaning on the headboard. No creaks or wobbles so far, which bodes well for longevity. The bed is also a comfortable height to get in and out of, and feels well grounded when pushed into position. The headboard cushioning is a nice touch, and placed well for evening reading or propped up coffee mornings. It's a small thing but one that makes the bed feel truly welcoming.
Storage
The drawer at the foot end of the bed is the best feature of the Hatson. It is quite deep and goes all the way across the width of the bed, making for a nice amount of storage space. Perfect for storing spare bedding or duvets, out of season clothes, or even a few extra pillows. The drawer runs smoothly and quietly, and the front blends in perfectly with the rest of the design when closed. It also doesn't interrupt the clean silhouette of the frame, which is something a lot of storage beds do not get right. The opening is easy to access but you do need to have a little clearance at the foot of the bed to open it fully.
Everyday Use
At this point, after a few weeks of everyday use, the Hatson is still holding up well and remains solid and supportive. No movement or sagging in the frame and the slats have not come loose or creaked. The velvet has maintained its texture and hasn't shown any pressure marks or pilling. It is an easy bed to live with, comfortable to lean against and practical with the storage drawer. It's also easy to clean, a quick vacuum or fabric brush will keep it looking like new. The neutral tones and textured headboard allow it to work with different bedding styles across seasons and the bed fits effortlessly into both modern and classic decors.
Who It Suits
The Hatson Bed Frame is perfect for anyone looking for a high quality looking bed frame without the high price tag. Ideal for medium to larger bedrooms that can accommodate its size and welcome a touch of soft luxury. The upholstered comfort, supportive base, and discreet storage make it a great choice for couples or anyone who values neatness and a clean design aesthetic. The beige colour is suited to warmer interiors, while the navy version works beautifully in more contemporary settings.
Who It Doesn't Suit
If you are looking for a bed with headboard height adjustment or ottoman style storage, then the Hatson might not be the bed for you. The foot drawer offers a lot of storage space but is not full underbed access. It also will not work for smaller bedrooms with little clearance at the end of the bed, as the drawer will be difficult to open all the way. It's a bed that prioritises elegance and simplicity over modularity and function, so if that's what you're after it may not suit your needs.
Verdict
The Hatson Bed Frame is a good compromise between good looks and practicality. The herringbone headboard design gives the bed a nice texture and interest, the velvet finish feels luxurious, and the hidden drawer offers some useful storage without interrupting the clean lines of the design. It is easy to put together, very stable in everyday use, and genuinely comfortable to live with. There are a few small things to be aware of, such as dust maintenance and clearance space, but on the whole this is a stand out in its class. If you want a bed that feels calm, cohesive, and well built, then the Hatson will deliver on all three of those criteria.
