Category: Clothing, textiles and fashion items: baby sleeping bag

Action taken: “The listing has been removed by the online marketplace (Vicedeal).”
Advice to owners: “We recommend owners stop using this product immediately. Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.”

The hazard

The product presents a serious risk of suffocation as the product has a hood which is not permitted in the relevant standard, BS EN 16781:2018. If a baby is placed inside a hooded sleeping bag and left unattended, the baby’s natural movement may cause the hood to cover the head/face, presenting a suffocation hazard.

The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

From the official product safety notice on GOV.UK, published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

Why it matters for your bed or cot

The listing offered it as a photo prop, a cart sleeping bag and a sleeping bag. A newborn photo shoot is supervised; a night in a cot is not. OPSS assessed it for sleep and found the hood unsafe.
