A great night's sleep comes down to a solid blend of comfort, support, and design - elements that Sleepeezee's Contemporary Ottoman Divan Bed Base aims to deliver in spades. The convenience of a Divan base coupled with modern design nuances come together in this piece of bedroom furniture, promising not just a good night's sleep, but also a storage solution with a dash of chic, contemporary style. My personal exploration and analysis of this product commenced during our in-store testing phase. Does it live up to its hype?
Design and features
With a choice of luxurious fabrics and colours, the Sleepeezee Contemporary Ottoman Divan Bed Base is a visual treat. In keeping with current trends, there's an interesting mix of bold animal print, cosy boucle-style, velveteen, luxury twill, and a sumptuously soft linen blend. The extravagant range and quality of finishes, from statement to sleek, lends itself to a diverse range of bedroom aesthetics.
The stand out feature of this bed base, however, is the generous side-opening ottoman storage. With an impressive 20cm depth, this space is invaluable for those of us with storage woes, providing an organised haven for spare bedding, seasonal clothing, or anything else you might need to stow away neatly out of sight.
Construction
The construction of this Divan base is sturdily designed, with attention to practicality in addition to aesthetics. The bed base is fashioned from responsibly sourced timber, handmade in the UK. The thoughtfulness extends to features like sturdy chrome glides, easy lift handles, and an anti-slip fabric atop the base. All these elements ensure a hassle-free user experience that is also kind to your floors.
However, as insightful-handed as these touches are, it's by no means revolutionary. The framework is essentially an MDF box with a spring gas lift mechanism. The premium for this trademarked product, therefore, feels a tad steep for what is fundamentally a polished and augmented crate. Nevertheless, it offers good quality and attractive aesthetics for those who don't mind the fairly high price point.
Suitability
The Sleepeezee Ottoman Bed Base is definitely a contender for those seeking to combine functionality with style. Its platform top creates a supportive mattress base which, together with its well-appointed height and ample storage, can transform both the comfort and logistic side of your bedroom.
Whilst the bed base offers excellent support for most types of mattresses, it really comes into its element when paired with a Sleepeezee or TheraPur mattress. In terms of size suitability, it accommodates all standard UK sizes, with the single base as one complete unit and all larger sizes split into two halves horizontally for convenient delivery and set up.
What customers thought
Storage is what owners write about most, and they're happy with it. One found it "easy to open with plenty of storage space". Another, with a king size, said it was "easy to lift even though king size and loads of storage space". A couple also mention that it was easy to assemble.
The looks get plenty of praise too. One owner wrote that they "love the colour and modern feel with the chrome feet". On the green, one owner noted "Green is very dark", though they didn't mind it.
However, it wouldn't be a full picture without the outliers. One owner found the storage "not as deep as I thought it would be", another "would have liked it to open wider", and a third said the ottoman is "sometimes a little heavy with the mattress on top", bearing in mind my previous thoughts on the construction mechanism. One buyer fitting it into a box room also found that "The dimensions required are bigger if attaching a headboard to the base", so measure up first if you're adding a headboard.
The verdict
After an in-depth review and having personally examined the Sleepeezee Contemporary Ottoman Divan Bed Base, I find it to be a compelling blend of style, functionality, and convenience. The sheer range of fabric and colour choices, coupled with the generous storage space, makes it a highly appealing choice for anyone looking to incorporate style and practicality in their bedroom.
However, it does come with its fine print. The primary contention here relates to its price, which is a considerable outlay given what is essentially an MDF box beneath its luxury embellishments. But if budget isn't a deterrent, you're eyeing a stylish statement piece with a good balance of features, and comfort and convenience.
Overall, the Sleepeezee Ottoman represents an investment and should be treated as such. It is a gratifying product in a crowded market and if you're searching for a bed base that fulfils more than just sleeping requirements, this could indeed be a solid contender in your shortlist.
