Buy the Orion Upholstered Bed Frame if you sit up in bed. Its padded pillow-back headboard is the point of it, the most comfortable thing to lean against of the Aries, Orion and Phoenix frames. If you never read or drink tea in bed, the padding is just something else to keep clean.
A headboard is for sitting up
I've always thought a headboard should pay its way, and the Orion's does. In Dreams' photos it's a tall, flat padded panel, so it reaches your shoulders when you sit up and you're not wedging three pillows against a low board. Under it, Dreams fits sprung wooden slats that flex a little under the mattress. The whole frame weighs 35kg flat-packed and comes in a woven fabric, on dark tapered legs. Its plain rectangle suits a traditional room as easily as a modern one.
That fabric is my reservation. A padded headboard is exactly where hair oil and hand cream end up, and woven fabric holds on to them. A cover or a regular going-over with a soft brush helps.
Check underneath before you order
Underneath, the assembly guide lists a middle cross bar with two support legs and 28 bentwood slats, or 30 in a king, which is the centre support I'd want on a double or bigger.1 It gives no gap between the slats, so measure that against your mattress maker's limit. If you need a high bed to sit down onto easily, avoid guessing: Dreams doesn't give a base height, so ask for it.
What to buy instead
The Orion Upholstered Ottoman keeps the same headboard and adds storage, which is the better buy in a small room. If you rarely sit up in bed, the Phoenix is plainer and easier to keep looking smart.
