The M&S Collection 1000 Pocket Spring Medium Mattress is a pocket-sprung mattress that blends traditional support with modern comfort features. With a medium firmness and a support core of 1000 individually pocketed springs, it aims to offer a balanced feel that caters to a wide range of sleepers.
Design and Construction At the heart of this mattress lies a core of 1000 pocket springs , each spring housed in its own fabric pocket. This independent coil structure allows the mattress to contour to your body’s shape, providing targeted support and pressure relief. Above the springs sit comfort layers made from natural Pure New Wool and a soft “luxury white fibre” filling. These materials add cushioning to the surface, for a touch of plushness on top of the support. The mattress stands 24 cm deep, a substantial profile. Around the sides, 2 rows of side stitching reinforce the perimeter. This side stitching helps the edges stay firm, so you can lie near the edge without too much sag.
The exterior cover is a soft knit treated with ActiPro anti-allergy and antibacterial technology to combat allergens and odors, keeping the sleeping environment hygienic. There are four vents built into the sides to promote airflow. Together with the breathable wool layer and the naturally airy coil core, these vents help dissipate heat and moisture for a cooler, fresher sleep. For practicality, the mattress has four sturdy handles stitched on the sides. Since it’s a non-flip mattress, you’ll need to rotate it periodically to keep the wear even (the handles help with this). It’s made in the UK and comes with a 10-year guarantee for peace of mind regarding durability.
Firmness & Support This model is rated as Medium in firmness. Some may even find it on the firmer side of medium. It offers a middle-ground feel - not too hard and not too soft. Lying down, you’ll feel the 1000 coils supporting you evenly, keeping your spine well-aligned. Most average-weight sleepers will experience a good balance of support with slight cushioning. There’s enough give to contour around your shoulders and hips, but the mattress holds you up instead of letting you sink too far in. Back sleepers should find the support level ideal for maintaining neutral posture. The medium firmness and the responsive surface also suits combination sleepers who often change positions, since it’s easy to move around on. If you sleep on your stomach primarily, you may find this mattress okay (though strict stomach-only sleepers might prefer something firmer). As with any mattress, lighter people may find it firmer and heavier people may find it softer, but overall it’s designed to provide stable, even support with just enough padding on top to prevent pressure points.
Pressure Relief & Comfort The pocketed springs and plush fibre layers work together to relieve pressure on key areas like the shoulders and hips. When you lie on your side, the coils under those points compress to allow some give while surrounding springs hold up support, preventing discomfort in the joints. The wool and fibre filling also cushions your body from the coils, so the surface feels supportive yet lightly cushioned rather than overly firm. You won’t sink as deeply into this mattress as you would into a memory foam bed, but many sleepers prefer this gentle, buoyant cradle as it makes changing positions easier.
Temperature Regulation & Breathability This mattress is designed to stay cool and breathable thanks to the pocket spring core and four side vents allow air to circulate and heat to escape, while the wool comfort layer naturally wicks away moisture and helps regulate temperature. Compared to an all-foam mattress, these features mean you’re far less likely to overheat. The cover’s antibacterial treatment also helps keep the mattress feeling fresh over time.
Motion Isolation & Edge Support Thanks to the individual pocket springs, movement on one side of the bed is unlikely to ripple across to the other. There is some springiness (as expected from coils), but motions are well isolated so most couples won’t disturb each other. Edge support is equally solid: you can sit or lie near the edge without feeling like you’ll slide off. The reinforced sides let couples use the full mattress area comfortably, and make it easier to get in and out of bed without the edge collapsing.
Who Should Consider This Mattress? Balanced feel: Ideal if you want a mattress that’s neither too soft nor too firm, with a blend of cushioning and support that feels "just right." Back sleepers & combo sleepers: The solid support keeps your spine aligned, and the responsive springs make it easy to change positions through the night. Side sleepers of average build: Provides good pressure relief at the shoulders and hips without making you sink too deeply. Hot sleepers or allergy sufferers: Breathable wool layers, airflow vents, and an anti-allergy cover help you sleep cooler and cleaner. Couples: Low motion transfer means less disturbance from a partner, and sturdy edges let both of you use the full bed without rolling off. Who Might Not Find It Ideal? Strict stomach sleepers: Might find it a bit too soft if you need an extra-firm surface to keep your hips up. Fans of ultra-plush mattresses: You won’t get a deep “sink-in” or cloud-like softness from this model. Very light or very heavy people: Very petite sleepers could find it firmer than expected, while much heavier folks might find it a tad too soft or want more support. Memory foam lovers: The feel is more bouncy and less contouring than a pure foam mattress. Overall, this mattress combines sturdy support with useful comfort and cooling features, making it a well-rounded choice for a broad range of sleepers.
