How we tested
Conducting an in-store evaluation of the Allegra Bunk Bed Frame in collaboration with Bensons for Beds allowed us to critically examine all aspects of the bed frame. This hands-on testing process involved thorough analysis of the overall design and quality, and practicality of the storage arrangements. We also scrutinised its assembly process, tested the strength and durability of the frame, and monitored its performance over consistent use.
Design and features
The aesthetic appeal of the Allegra Bunk Bed Frame lies in its modern design combined with the choice between Sonoma Oak Effect, or White colour options. The distinctive design of the bunk bed frame features sleek cut-out handles on the ladder adding an additional chic factor. A unique 'lip' at the back of the bed helps to prevent items from slipping off, adding practicality to its chic design. It also offers copious storage solutions with a substantial pull-out drawer and multiple shelves, making it a great solution to declutter any bedroom and teaching kids the importance of organisation. That said, those shelves and the drawer do eat into floor space, so in a really tight box room it can feel a bit bulky.
Construction
The build design of the Allegra Bunk Bed Frame is not just appealing but is grounded heavily in practicality and longevity. The lower bunk bed is strategically positioned closer to the floor to ensure easy accessibility for younger kids. The ladder incorporates stunning cut-out handles for improved grip and a safer climb. The frame is designed to accommodate standard UK single mattresses (90cm x 190cm), with the condition that the mattress should not exceed 18cm in height, minimising the chances of accidental falls and ensuring a good sleeping height relation to the top safety rail. The 18cm mattress height limit is worth bearing in mind though, as it rules out some deeper, comfier single mattresses.
Suitability
The Allegra Bunk Bed Frame is perfect for homes with limited space, as it maximises the sleeping area by stacking two beds vertically. The multiple storage options, including shelves and a pull-out drawer, can accommodate toys, clothes, books, and other bedroom essentials conveniently. It's a great way to maintain order and neatness in the room. Due to its low height, the bottom bed is particularly suitable for younger children or for those who prefer not to climb a ladder. Just be realistic about the top bunk, it's still a ladder job, so it won't suit every child (or every parent) if they're not confident with climbing up and down.
What customers thought
The shelves are what owners mention most. One called the bed "great with the shelving for kids", and another listed what ends up on them: "nick naks, lamps, books, toys." Owners call the frame sturdy too: "Good solid bed!" and "Great bed, sturdy". Plan the assembly before you start, because one owner warned to "check all fixings and parts prior as there are hundreds", while another found it "no problem when all parts laid out and instructions followed." On the downside, one owner wrote "Part of my order is missing" and said their email went unanswered.
The verdict
The Allegra Bunk Bed Frame wins hands down when searching for a combination of style, practicality, and functionality. It perfectly balances aesthetic appeal with abundant storage options and thoughtful safety measures. It's not just a bed, but an organised living solution that your kids will love. And don't forget, each purchase comes with a five-year guarantee for your peace of mind. If you are seeking a smart space solution without compromising style, the Allegra Bunk Bed Frame is an investment worth considering.
