Buying furniture is something that can be incredibly confusing. There are dozens of different types of wood, hundreds of fabrics, and thousands of design options. When I’m checking out dining tables in person, I always run my hand over the top and edges, you can quickly tell if the finish feels properly smooth or a bit rough and cheap.
It’s no wonder that most people just buy whatever furniture is in stock at their local store. The downside is you can end up with a table that looks great in the showroom but marks easily once it’s in daily use.
But if you’re going to spend your hard-earned money on a new couch or dining room table, you want to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal. And that means doing your homework before you shop. I also like to give the table a gentle wobble and sit at the edge for a second, some cheaper frames flex more than you’d expect.
Take a look at the options below and see what fits in with your budget and style. Just keep in mind that some finishes can be a bit high maintenance, especially if you’ve got kids or you’re eating at it every day.
