Beds aren't just places to sleep anymore, they now offer handy extras like storage and play spaces whilst still fitting in with a room's decor. The Skye Playhouse Midsleeper Bedframe is one of those products, bringing playfulness, style, and practicality together in one piece.
How We Tested
With the perfect opportunity to inspect and test the product at Bensons for Beds store, we spent plenty of time exploring this unique piece of furniture. I gave the ladder and top bunk a proper wobble and it felt reassuringly solid under my weight. We were able to physically assess its build quality, functionality and overall aesthetic appeal in real-world conditions, taking time to review all its features . With equal doses of scrutiny and enthusiasm, we evaluated the utility of the storage provided, the safety of the design, and the practicality of the construction.
Design and Features
One of the stand-out features of the Skye Playhouse Midsleeper Bedframe is its clever design that nicely brings together sleep and play. The playful aesthetics of the bed is spearheaded by its charming built-in playhouse on top, making it a delightful addition to a child's room. I ran my hand over the painted finish and it felt smooth and nicely done, not rough or splintery. We were impressed by the amount of storage this bed provides which includes underbed shelving and a useful drawer. Plus, its modern white finish gives it a contemporary yet universal appeal, allowing it to fit into various decor styles easily.
Construction
Quality-wise, the Skye Playhouse Midsleeper Bedframe is sturdy and well-built, giving the parents much-needed peace of mind about their child's safety in this elevated sleep space. Sitting on the edge, it held up well and didn't feel like it was flexing about. It adheres to the UK safety standards for children's furniture and comes with a reassuring 5-year guarantee. Designed for children aged 6 and above, this bed uses a frame suitable for a 90cm x 200cm mattress, although it's recommended that the mattress used does not exceed 15cm in height for the best safety of the child.
Suitability
One of the key aspects in choosing a bed frame like this is its suitability for your child and their bedroom. The Skye Playhouse Midsleeper Bedframe has been created with the playful nature of children in mind. However, it might pose a challenge in terms of mattress fitting. During our testing, we noticed that the mattress does not completely cover the base of the bed, leaving a gap of a few inches. Measure the base and buy a mattress cut to those dimensions, otherwise you live with the gap.
What Customers Thought
One owner called it "Easy to assemble", but wrote that "the mattress does not completely cover the base of the bed". They put it at "roughly a 5 or 6 inch gap" with the mattress pushed to one end.
The Verdict
After a careful evaluation, the Skye Playhouse Midsleeper Bedframe is a bold and clever approach to children's bedroom furniture. It combines fun and functionality brilliantly, improving a child's bedtime and playtime experience. Despite the minor setback with the mattress fitting, its elegant design, storage provisions, and the exciting features it offers, make it a worthwhile addition to a child's room. Overall, it promises to be a fun space for children where the day's worries can be left behind and sweet dreams can be embraced.
