The Simply by Bensons Rolled Foam Mattress is an affordable, no-fuss bed-in-a-box from Bensons for Beds. I slept on this medium-firm, all-foam mattress for several nights to evaluate its comfort, support, and overall performance. It arrives vacuum-rolled for easy delivery and promises a medium-firm feel aimed at broad appeal.
A first look at the Simply Rolled Foam Mattress set up on a divan base. It has a medium 21 cm profile and a simple, quilted white cover that blends into most bedrooms. Visually, this bed isn't about flashiness - it's all about convenience and comfort once unwrapped.
Comfort
The Simply Rolled Foam Mattress has a true medium-firm feel (about 6.5-7 out of 10 on the firmness scale). Lying down, the quilted cover provides a bit of softness, and the EcoAir foam core contours moderately to your body. It feels supportive yet slightly cushioned - you float on top of the mattress with gentle cradling. Pressure relief is sufficient for most people: back and stomach sleepers will find it comfortable, while side sleepers get some give but might find it a tad firm at the shoulder and hip. You won't sink in deeply as you would on a plush memory foam bed; instead, the surface has a balanced, no-frills comfort that most sleepers can appreciate.
Support and Spinal Alignment
Despite its simple design, this mattress offers good spinal support, especially for back and stomach sleepers. The foam is firm enough to keep your lower back and hips from sagging, maintaining healthy alignment. I found my spine stayed neutral when lying flat or on my front - a testament that the core is doing its job. Side sleepers will get adequate support too. Edge support, however, is average: sitting or sleeping near the edge causes the foam to compress more than a mattress with reinforced edges. You might feel a slight “roll-off” effect if you're right on the side, which is common for all-foam beds. Overall, for its price range and 21 cm profile, the Simply Rolled Foam provides reliable support and keeps most sleepers' backs happy.
Motion Isolation
As an all-foam mattress, motion isolation is excellent. Movement on one side doesn't travel to the other, which is great news for couples. In my test, when one person tossed and turned on one side, the other person barely felt a thing - there were no bouncy springs to transfer motion. The foam absorbs energy, so if your partner (or pet) climbs in and out of bed, you're unlikely to be disturbed. The flip side is that the mattress has very little bounce, but that's a worthwhile trade-off if you prioritise an undisturbed sleep. For light sleepers or anyone sharing a bed, the Simply Rolled Foam Mattress does a superb job minimising night-time interruptions.
Temperature Control
Foam beds can sleep warm, but this model tries to counter that with its breathable EcoAir foam. The material is designed to reduce humidity and heat build-up but in practice, the mattress sleeps fairly neutral. I didn't experience any overheating on it - it allowed a decent amount of airflow for a foam mattress, and the knit cover felt breathable. It's not an actively cooling mattress, but overall, it's cooler than old-school memory foam, albeit still not as airy as a spring or hybrid bed. Using breathable sheets and a light duvet can further ensure you sleep cool. Most people should find the temperature regulation comfortable, with only the very hottest of sleepers possibly wanting additional cooling measures.
Materials, Construction & Durability
This mattress keeps things simple with a 21 cm single-layer foam core and a soft quilted cover, yet it's built with longevity in mind. The core uses Bensons' EcoAir Foam - a supportive, open-cell polyurethane foam that gives the bed its medium-firm character and helps with airflow. The cover is a breathable knit fabric that's comfy to the touch, and the sides feature sturdy handles for easy rotation (the mattress is non-flip). Despite the no-frills design, the build quality feels solid (UK-made with high quality standards). The high-density foam should resist sagging for years, and it comes with a 5-year guarantee for peace of mind. Expect around 5-7 years of comfy use before signs of wear, which is excellent durability at this price point.
Ease of Setup and Unboxing
The mattress arrives bed-in-a-box style, rolled up tight for easy transport. Unboxing is a breeze - place it on your bed, cut away the plastic, and watch it expand to full size within minutes (reaching full firmness in a few hours). There's a mild “new foam” smell at first, but it fades quickly with ventilation. Overall, setup is quick and painless (your back will thank you).
Price and Value
This mattress is a bargain. It may not have luxury extras, but it nails the basics - providing comfort, support, and quality construction at a fraction of the cost of many competitors. Considering its performance and the 5-year guarantee, the Simply Rolled Foam offers outstanding value for money.
Final Verdict
The Simply by Bensons Rolled Foam Mattress proves you don't need to spend a fortune to sleep comfortably - it delivers a reliable medium-firm feel, strong motion isolation, and easy setup, all at a very approachable price - getting the job done without breaking the bank. It's not the plushest or most high-tech mattress on the market, but it covers the essentials exceptionally well.
