Why our sleep experts loved it
Restful slumber and recharging our bodies go hand in hand; thus, it is paramount to ensure your sleeping environment gives you the comfort and support you need. There’s a world full of mattress options, each catering to different sleep patterns and body types, offering varying levels of comfort and price ranges. One must consider several factors such as sleep position, body type, comfort preference, and budget while narrowing down the best mattress choice.
We recently had the chance to test the Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Extra Firm Mattress in-store and wanted to share our comprehensive review of this mattress. Let's delve into its unique design, comfort level, suitability, customer thoughts, and our verdict to determine if this mattress could be your key to a good night's sleep.
Design and Features
The Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Extra Firm Mattress doesn't skimp when it comes to features. At first glance, one might be intrigued by its intricate spring system, known as the PostureTech Core Support Spring System designed to offer deep down pressure relief and firmness that intensifies as pressure is applied. This feature is bespoke to Sealy and claimed to be especially suited for back health.
The surface layer constitutes a rich Belgian Damask cover, acclaimed for its breathability, durability, and sumptuous softness. It feels gentle and comforting against the skin, luring you into laying just another few minutes in your cozy bed.
Underneath the plush cover, this mattress harbours an innovative layer of ReNew Fibres. These are resilient, eco-friendly fibres designed to improve airflow and breathability, thereby ensuring you don't wake up feeling sticky and sweaty on balmy summer nights. Even better, these fibres are made from 76% recycled plastic, reducing your sleeping carbon footprint!
The mattress attributes its solidity to EdgeGuard, a technology that enhances the durability of the mattress and prevents roll-off. It optimises the sleep surface, letting you utilise every inch of the mattress, a feature particularly useful if you share a bed.
Designed with functional aesthetics, the mattress is hand-tufted to enhance its firm feel. Although marketed as an 'easy-care non-turn mattress', you need to rotate it regularly as advised in the care guide instructions. It truly embodies a perfect marriage of fashion and function with a grand height of 27cm, boasting an extra firm comfort rating and resemblance of luxury with a touch of orthopaedic support.
Mattress Comfort
Comfort can be a subjective matter, varying dramatically from person to person. Some seek a cloud-like softness while others prefer a solid, supportive surface. This Sealy's mattress leans more towards the latter with an extra firm rating; it comes across as fairly unyielding and slightly rigid. The comfort scale ranking denotes that there is little, if any, softness or plushness to the mattress at all.
Despite being marketed as a perfect orthopaedic solution, my personal experience with the mattress was less than satisfactory. While I appreciate firm support to a certain degree, the excessive firmness turned out to be nearly uncomfortable for me. While the mattress contouring might serve well within an orthopaedic context, I found the spring system brash rather than adaptive or cushioned.
On another note, I felt the bed slept warm despite its breathable "eco-fibres" and airy Damask cover. The claim of improved airflow and breathability might be overstated; making it slightly unfavourable for those who inherently sleep hot.
One setback I discovered was that the EdgeGuard didn't prevent the sagging at its edges. Also, the hand-tufting didn't quite enhance the comfort; if anything, it only made the mattress feel stiffer. All in all, the mattress’s comfort level could be described as uncompromisingly firm.
Suitability
The Extra Firm Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Mattress's rigidness might cater best to back or stomach sleepers who seek strong support and firm structure in their mattresses. Side sleepers, or those with hourglass figures, might find this mattress uncomfortable as they might need a tad bit more sink-in feel for their hips and shoulders.
On a gratifying note, this mattress is conscientious towards the environment, integrating fibres made from recycled plastic; thus, a good fit for eco-conscious shoppers. Conversely, if breathability and cooling are your top priorities, you might want to reconsider considering the Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Extra Firm Mattress.
What Customers Thought
As someone who examines mattresses downtown and uptown, I understand the value of multiple perspectives. Hence, customer reviews play a pivotal role in my assessments. For the Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Extra Firm Mattress, the views were rather mixed.
One common grouse among customers was related to the longevity of the mattress. Several users noticed noticeable indentations and sagging after only a few weeks of use. Some even reported that despite regular rotation, the indentations persist. This raised concerns about the mattress's durability in the long run, particularly as it comes with a significant price tag.
Yet, the mattress was not devoid of redemptive qualities according to customers; many vouched for its firmness and felt that their sleep quality had improved significantly. A considerable number of customers praised it as the ideal solution for back and joint pains, and some even went as far as to attribute their peaceful slumbers and morning refreshment to this mattress.
Ordering and delivery process didn't go unnoticed either, most customers happily attesting to the efficient service and quick delivery provided by Bensons for Beds.
The Verdict
All things considered, the Sealy Redcliffe Backcare Extra Firm Mattress walks a fine line. It has its niche, appealing to those seeking an uncompromisingly firm, ortho-friendly mattress. Yet, concerns about its limited pressure relief, airflow and durability can't go unheeded.
If you’re a disciplined back or stomach sleeper and firmly (pun intended!) believe that the firmer the bed, the better for your back, you might want to consider this mattress. It could provide you with the unfaltering support you crave, potentially improving your spinal alignment and sleep quality.
On the flip side, if you’re someone who prioritises comfort over firmness, this might not be the bed for you. It leans more towards providing support rather than plush comfort. Also, those seeking a cooler sleep environment might not find this mattress up to the mark.
Remember, finding the right mattress can seem Herculean, but with a broad perspective and comprehensive reviews, you can make that task a slight bit easier!
