Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Silentnight SleepResponse™ Relieve 2000 Combination Mattress we have people from our testing team take a closer look at the mattress and form their own opinions. Below is their observations.

Stepping into the Dreams showroom, the Silentnight SleepResponse Relieve 2000 immediately caught my attention as an upscale riff on a classic pocket spring mattress. As someone who sleeps on their back, the generous layer of natural latex and 2000 pocket springs cradled my average-weight build beautifully, proving to be both pressure-reducing and supportive for spinal alignment. Throughout the showroom test, the mattress's CoolEase cover had a refreshing touch, hinting at the potential to wick away heat during the night. While certainly a high-end investment, anyone seeking a luxury hybrid should definitely consider this mattress for its clear commitment to comfort and quality.

Why our sleep experts loved it

The Silentnight SleepResponse Relieve 2000 is a luxury hybrid from Dreams’ SleepResponse collection, with a latex comfort layer, Silentnight’s Mirapocket pocket spring system and a cool-touch cover. From the showroom floor it instantly seemed like a more upscale version of the traditional Silentnight pocket spring mattress, but with a much fresher feel and a reassuringly dense, supportive base. It is one step down from the SleepResponse Relieve 3000 in the range, and in my opinion this less expensive 2000 model actually offers better value for most customers.

Dreams describes the Relieve 2000 as a mattress that allows for easy movement and disturbance-free sleep, with natural latex for long-term pressure relief and posture-tested, zoned Mirapocket support designed to promote spinal alignment. A stretch-knit CoolEase cover is engineered to draw heat away from the body, while a traditional tufted surface helps to keep internal fillings in place over time.

On paper, it is an appealing combination: 2000 pocket springs for support, a pressure-relieving responsive latex layer, and a cooling cover. In practice, I found very few compromises: it is still on the expensive side for a Silentnight-labelled mattress, but given the specification and feel I think it can make a decent case for itself if you are in the market for a luxury hybrid and your budget stretches this far.

Construction & Materials

The Relieve 2000 is a combination, or hybrid, mattress with a build centred around Silentnight’s Mirapocket system. Underneath you have a core of individually wrapped pocket springs, with a quoted total spring count of 2000 units across the mattress. Some of that figure will be from micro springs rather than full-height coils, so keep that in mind if you are looking to compare it directly with very high-count pocket spring mattresses that specify nothing but full-sized coils in the body. That said, a 2000 spring unit is still a good spec for proper body contouring and support.

On top of the springs is a layer of natural latex. Latex is very different from memory foam: it compresses quickly and recovers just as fast, which gives you pressure relief without the slow, sinking sensation. It is also more breathable than dense polyfoams, so that helps explain why the mattress also feels more open and responsive than Silentnight’s standard memory foam hybrids. Silentnight positions that latex layer as providing durable pressure relief across the surface, with particular benefits around shoulders and hips, and that tallies with my own experience on the mattress.

The entire thing is finished with a Silentnight CoolEase stretch-knit fabric, which is engineered to pull heat away from the body and maintain a more neutral temperature at the surface. This is a traditional tufted mattress rather than a pillow-top, so the top surface has the classic dimple pattern and a slightly more structured feel under hand. Tufting also helps pin the comfort layers and fillings more firmly into the spring unit, which should also help the mattress retain its shape over time.

It arrives as a traditional full-size mattress rather than a compressed roll like a bed-in-a-box, and it is fairly heavy. The boxed packaging for a double is listed at around 39kg and is a good size, so two people are needed to handle it safely on delivery day and whenever you need to rotate it.

Firmness & Feel

In terms of comfort, I would rate the SleepResponse Relieve 2000 as a mid to medium-firm mattress for most people of average weight. It is not super-plush and it does not sink in a lot, but on the other hand it is also not a rigid orthopaedic surface either. On my back, I could feel the latex spreading my weight across the surface and the springs pushing back enough to give me good support through the lower back.

On my side, shoulders and hips were able to sink in just enough to the latex, but with the zoned Mirapocket springs underneath providing resistance underneath where I needed it. Compared with the 3000-spring version, this model feels less dense and slightly more forgiving overall, which I suspect many couples and mixed sleepers will prefer.

The latex gives the surface a lively, slightly bouncy character. It does not trap you in the mattress as you sometimes get with deeper memory foam, instead you can change position easily and it springs back almost instantly into shape. That makes a big difference for restless sleepers, or if you are the type of person who rolls back and forth a lot through the night.

Edge support is reasonable rather than great. If you sit on the edge, there is a little compression, but if you lie right at the side I never felt like I was in danger of rolling off, which is broadly what I would expect from a mid-range pocket spring hybrid of this type.

Performance & Support

The primary job of the Relieve 2000 is rather neatly summarised in the name: to relieve pressure, but without sacrificing spinal support. The combination of latex and zoned Mirapocket springs does a good job of this. The pocket spring system is designed to react independently across the body, but to be firmer in certain zones where needed, which helps with posture and alignment, and in use I found my hips were well-controlled and my upper back and shoulders cushioned.

Motion isolation is surprisingly good for a mattress with some bounce to it. The pocket springs push and pull independently of each other and the latex comfort layer also absorbs some of the higher-frequency jostling, so while there is a sense of movement if a partner gets in or out of bed, it is not the dramatic roll-together you can get with basic open-coil mattresses. For couples who share a bed, that makes a huge difference in terms of how refreshing the sleep feels.

Compared to the 3000 model, which is a touch more robust and supportive under very heavy loads, the 2000 will still be fine for most average to slightly heavier sleepers. If you are significantly heavier than average and like a really firm mattress then you may still prefer the greater density of the 3000 version, but for the majority of customers I think this strikes a more comfortable balance of support and give.

As some of the pocket spring count comes from micro springs, it is worth bearing in mind that not every one of those 2000 coils is pushing up against the body in the same way that a full-height spring would. They do not directly contribute to deep-down support to the same extent, but they do add some extra conformity at the surface, helping the mattress more closely trace the body’s curves and smooth out pressure points, particularly at the shoulders.

Temperature Regulation

Latex is naturally more breathable than most solid memory foams and combined with a full pocket spring core, airflow through the Relieve 2000 is very decent. That structural ventilation is complemented by the CoolEase cover, which is designed specifically to draw heat away from the body and maintain a cooler sleep surface.

I tried the mattress in store and deliberately stayed in one position long enough to get past that initial "first cool touch" effect that you can get with some cooling fabrics. After several minutes, the surface still felt noticeably fresher than the standard knit covers on adjacent mattresses, to the point where I am confident it is doing more than just offering a marketing story. It does not feel cold but it is less clammy and also did not appear to hold warmth around contact points in the same way.

If you are a hot sleeper, this is one to seriously consider in the Silentnight range. It does not have active cooling gels or phase-change materials, but the combination of latex, open spring construction and that cool-to-touch cover makes it a safer bet than many dense memory foam-heavy hybrids at a similar price point.

Practical Features

The Silentnight SleepResponse Relieve 2000 is a luxury hybrid mattress exclusive to Dreams and is available from single right up to super king, with free delivery quoted as typically arriving in around three weeks, and the option of Dreams’ mattress recycling service to dispose of your old bed when it comes time to upgrade.

Dreams also offers its 100-night comfort guarantee across this mattress, which means that if the mattress turns out not to be the right feel for you, you can arrange an exchange within that window rather than being stuck with a costly mistake. It is a safety net worth factoring in to your value assessment, given the price bracket we are in here.

Price-wise, this is at the premium end of Silentnight’s offerings through Dreams. The product page often displays a promotional discount from a higher list price, which should underline that this is a considered purchase rather than an impulse decision even when there is a discount on.

Latex mattresses always command a higher ticket price than basic open coil, and that is true here too. The mattress is quite heavy, so any turning or rotating will need two people, especially in the larger sizes, and given the depth and traditional tufting it will also want a deep fitted sheet rather than one that just fits the corners to avoid the corners springing off. Other than that, this is a low-fuss, no-nonsense design with no moving parts or electronics to worry about, which will appeal if you are looking for a classic mattress with a modern update rather than a gadget-laden bed.

Who it suits

Hot sleepers who dislike memory foam will get on well with the Relieve 2000. The latex comfort layer and CoolEase cover combine to give a much cooler, fresher feel than you often get with equivalent memory foam-topped mattresses, but without sacrificing pressure relief.

Back and combination sleepers are well catered for by the blend of support and comfort. The zoned Mirapocket pocket springs keep the spine nicely aligned, while the latex stops any sharp pressure build-up at shoulders and hips as you move between positions.

Couples who need good motion isolation but also like some bounce will appreciate the combination of pocket springs and latex. There is enough responsiveness for the bed to feel lively and easy to move on, but without the excessive roll-together of older Silentnight spring mattresses.

Shoppers tempted by the 3000-spring variant but nervous of the price difference should seriously consider this 2000 version. For the majority of people, the marginal benefit in support from the 3000 will not be worth the much higher price point, while the 2000 feels already reassuringly supportive but a little more forgiving in response.

Who it does not suit

Bargain hunters on a tight budget will likely find this a step too far. Even with Dreams’ regular promotions, the SleepResponse Relieve 2000 remains a premium-priced Silentnight mattress, and there are cheaper hybrid options available elsewhere in the range that will be better-suited for guest rooms or lighter sleepers.

Those wanting a super-soft or super-firm feel may be better-served elsewhere. This is a reasonably central mattress in the firmness spectrum; if you know you love a deep-plush, sink-right-in mattress or a very firm orthopaedic surface, then this balanced profile might leave you unsatisfied in one direction or the other.

Anyone who dislikes latex or has a latex allergy should obviously avoid it. Latex has a very distinctively springy, lifted feel, which many people love, but if you prefer the slow deep hug of memory foam or need to avoid latex for medical reasons, there will be other models in the range that are a better match.

Very heavy sleepers who crave maximum solidity might prefer the 3000-spring variant or a completely different option with a much firmer core. The Relieve 2000 is by no means weak or flimsy, but it is tuned to a blend of comfort and support and not designed as a rock-hard orthopaedic mattress.

Final verdict

The Silentnight SleepResponse Relieve 2000 Combination Mattress is a well-specified hybrid that feels like a genuine step up from Silentnight’s mainstream offerings. The combination of natural latex, zoned Mirapocket springs and a genuinely effective cool-touch cover delivers a supportive, pressure-relieving and noticeably fresher sleep surface, with very few obvious compromises beyond its weight and price.

Yes it is expensive for a Silentnight branded mattress, and the use of micro springs in the 2000 count means it is not as unambiguously luxurious as some traditional high-spring-count mattresses. However, having tried both this and the 3000 version, I think this less-expensive Relieve 2000 often makes more sense: it offers almost all of the support and comfort, with a much more accessible price tag and a slightly more forgiving feel.

If you are shopping for a cooler, supportive hybrid and are prepared to pay a bit more for latex and branded technology, the SleepResponse Relieve 2000 is a strong choice and one of the more compelling premium options currently on sale from Dreams.
