Head to head

Ergoflex is all foam, with no springs anywhere in the range, while Aspire is sprung throughout, with pocket springs or a hybrid build in every model. If you know you want springs under you, that decides it: Aspire. Every Ergoflex mattress is medium-firm, and Aspire runs from medium to medium-firm. Ergoflex

Ergoflex entered the UK in 2006 and is one of the original bed-in-a-box brands, predating Emma, Simba and Nectar by nearly a decade. The brand has stayed true to a single-product philosophy throughout, with the Ergoflex 5G being the current and only mattress in the range. It is a deep, five-layer all-foam mattress measuring about 23 cm, built entirely from Ergoflex's own in-house manufactured foams and wrapped in a removable TENCEL cover.

The single-product approach is deliberate. Rather than splitting engineering effort across a dozen models, Ergoflex invests all of its development into refining the 5G. The result is a mattress that has been steadily improved over multiple generations without the complexity of a large catalogue.

Aspire

Aspire is a UK manufacturer based in Barnsley, Yorkshire, founded in 2013 as Aspire Furniture Ltd. The company has grown steadily by combining traditional upholstery skills with modern design at accessible pricing. All Aspire mattresses and beds are handcrafted in the UK, and the brand sells direct through its own website as well as through Amazon, eBay, B&Q, Very and other major retail partners.

What separates Aspire from many mid-market rivals is the combination of genuine British manufacturing with multi-channel retail distribution. Designer collaborations with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Catherine Lansfield bring aesthetic value that is rare at this price tier.

Ergoflex owner satisfaction

Ergoflex carries OEKO-TEX certification on its materials and a 10-year guarantee as standard. The 30-night trial is shorter than most current rivals, with Emma and Simba at 200 nights and Nectar at 365, but it is enough time to form a proper opinion on the feel.

The single-product model removes the decision fatigue that affects buyers shopping brands with large catalogues. There is one mattress, one feel, one price. That simplicity is a genuine selling point for buyers who find the mattress market overwhelming.

Ergoflex supportiveness

The 5G uses a 9 cm high-density visco-elastic comfort layer for pressure relief, a 5 cm cool-sleep airflow system for temperature management, and a 9 cm resilient base for structural support. The overall feel is medium firm and the foam contours to the body progressively rather than sinking in immediately. Back sleepers and side sleepers of average weight are well served.

Firmness is the usual complaint, and it runs both ways: several found the Natural Cashmere models firmer than expected, while a few found the Pocket+ models softer than expected. Only slept on it for a few nights so will give an update after a couple of months. The mattress is not light, the drivers could only drop it at the door due to Covid and it was seriously difficult to move, the mattress is really thick and doesn;t bend so was a nightmare to get upstairs. The mattress is quite a bit firmer than I thought it would be but it is not uncomfortable and I am sure it will loosen up in a few days / weeks. There is no movement when either of us toss or turn in the night. FANTASTIC! It is VERY thick so be sure you have some extra deep fitted sheets to hand, a normal bed sheet won't fit. Also the thickness adds quite a bit of height so if you are short, your legs will dangle over the edge and you have to jump off! The quality is really good and better than previous mattresses I paid a lot more for it feels like a bed you would get in a 5 star hotel. Would defintiely recommend Aspire products.

I've been suffering with a bad back for a few years now, I thought it might be the mattress so I spent £1800 on a new one from a big brand name, my issues continued and I just accepted it as part of getting old. We bought this mattress for our spare room and one night when I was restless and didn't want to wake my wife I decided to sleep in the spare room, the next morning my back pain eased, I used this mattress for another couple of nights and my aches had virtually gone. I couldn't believe it what an amazing product. I then started using the main mattress again and after a few nights my back pain returned, one night on the Aspire mattress and I woke up pain free again. I have since bought another one for the main bedroom and have been back pain free since. The two Aspire mattresses cost about the same as the one big brand mattress, fantastic quality and value literally changed my life. Thank you Aspire.

I ordered a new mattress from Mattress Online and the service was absolutely brilliant! It arrived in less than 24 hours, which was amazing, but unfortunately it just wasn't quite right for me. One quick phone call later and they happily exchanged it under their 60-night guarantee; again delivered in under 24 hours, free of charge. The replacement (an Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory Box Top Mattress) is perfect; super comfortable and exactly what I was looking for. I have a constant pain in my back following injury and surgery 7 years ago, but this mattress is fabulous and I'm sleeping so much better already! Highly recommend Mattress Online: incredible service, great products, and really competitive prices.

We bought this mattress after reading medium is better for side sleepers…. Unfortunately the mattress just isn’t for us and have chosen to go back to a firm mattress… this mattress is good quality tho but like I say just didn’t suit our needs.

I exchanged a 5 for a 3 level softness and was recommended this mattress by a mattress online representative. The 3 was supposed to be softer and cooler, but there is no difference! Still very hard and despite purporting to have a built in topper there is no evidence of such. Totally disappointed with a mattress I now need to get rid of and purchase elsewhere!
