The hazard

The products present a risk of fire as they do not meet UK flammability requirements. If the product is exposed to an ignition source the filling and cover material could catch fire and continue to flame.

The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

From the official product safety notice on GOV.UK, published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

Checking yours

Check the label for one of the four product codes in the summary and batches 17995, 18316 or 19878. BHS also lists the recall on its product recalls and safety notices page.

Why it matters for your bed or cot

A topper sits right under your sheet, so it is the first thing a dropped cigarette or a candle knocked off a bedside table reaches. The notice says the filling and cover of these could catch fire and keep burning. Don’t put the topper on a spare bed instead; return it.
