The toppers do not meet the flammability requirements set out in the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. Under exposure to a naked flame, these products could ignite and continue to burn, posing a significant fire hazard.—Local Authority Trading Standards
Corrective action
These toppers have been recalled from end users. All units in the field must be returned to the retailer.
What to do
- Consumers: If you purchased a light cotton mattress topper or sofa bed topper with any of the above codes between 2 January 2017 and 11 August 2023, stop using it immediately and return it to John Lewis for a refund or replacement.
- Retailers and resellers: Examine stock and sales records; withdraw any unsold units from sale and assist customers in returning affected products.
- Importers/distributors: Ensure no further units are supplied in the UK market and cooperate with authorities.
