Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

Fairly new to the lineup we have the Memory Ortho Mattress, a mid range model from the growing brand Spring King who are part of popular mattress retailer MattressNextDay that has hit recent critical acclaim and fantastic reviews.

Offering a good level of comfort in the top layer, this mattress is a great option if you are looking to get the best bang-for-your-buck as it sees minor sacrifices in the support layer through a conventional and traditional open coil spring system. The much costlier pocket spring support layer is absent but what you get instead is a high quality and normally out-of-reach memory foam layer often found on far more expensive models.

For those looking for a further degree of comfort there is additional good news thanks to a soft and comfortable hand tufted top that helps keep all the fillings inside the mattress tied together to create a slightly firmer feel with enhanced durability and long-term stability.

Spring King Memory Ortho Mattress is single sided in design which means the comfort layer sits on one side only. There are pros and cons to this. First, the benefit is that you won't need to flip the mattress which saves on pain and hassle. the downside is that this comes at the expense of an amount of durability since the settlement and wear rate may be slightly higher as a result of more frequent use. The cost benefits of single sided mattresses like this are easily seen and it is clear that the price will appeal to many.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Spring King Memory Ortho Mattress Great?

Memory Foam

memory foam is one of the most well known materials used in the upper layer of mattresses. Memory foam basically contours to your entire body with moulding properties. Designed by NASA, this material rebounds to your touch and feels like you are floating on a cloud. Memory foam does not necesserily mean soft either, you can still have firm mattresses for those that want them with a bit of memory foam.

Traditional open coil springs

Open Springs offer fairly decent support that is evenly spread across the mattres. However, where budget allows, we would tend to steer people toward a pocket spring mattress, these might be a little bit more money, but the support is superior and consistant across the product

26cm deep

26CM is a deep mattress. This sort of mattress may require a slightly deeper fitted sheet to avoid it constantly popping off. That aside, 26CM is above the industry average in terms of depth and while not necesserily a guarantee of quality, you cannot get comfort and quality from a thin mattress

Firm support

Firm Tension Support Mattresses are suited to those who prefer sleeping on their front and back. Typically sleeping on your back helps ensure the spine remains aligned throughout the night and is the most natural sleeping position that can prevent twisting and turning. A firm mattress ensures that a high level of support contours around your body, alleviating pressure across your entire frame in a more even manner than that of a soft mattress, most notably in the hips, neck and shoulders. Finally, if you are suffering from neck or back pain, a firm mattress can help alleviate these problems and result in a better and more relaxed sleep for many years to come.

Knitted Cover

It is common in the industry to have a knitted cover, these covers can come in a variety of patterns but are typically hard wearing and do not present problems for consumers.

Orthopaedic Support

Do you suffer from back pain? If so you will likely find that an orthopaedic mattress will be massively beneficial to you. Slightly firmer in the comfort side of things but ultimately with a better support layer means that your back and neck will thank you for years to come.

No Need To Turn

This means that the product does not need to be turned over, but make no mistake, that is not the same as saying a product does not need to be rotated. If you do not want dips in your mattress with time, be sure to rotate evenly every month where possible

Pressure Relieving

Due to the support structure in place within this mattress it advertises as benefiting from pressure relieving properties. The way a mattress can achieve this is through the use of a good quality spring system that can contour to the body, providing tension equally across all areas of the body dependant on sleeping position and pressure

Hand Tufted

A tufted mattress is often a sign of high quality, Unlike quilted mattress which binds the soft layer directly to the other layers, traditional tufting uses several thick straps to hold the layers together through the spring unit, binding it at each side.

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.
