Becky's Thoughts On The Flaxby Natures Finest 8400 Dual Season Mattress

We're got a great mattress to review for you all today in the form of the Flaxby Natures Finest 8400 Dual Season Mattress. This is one of the few times when reviewing a mattress that I can say that it really does have it all. With 8400 pocket springs this mattress falls into the ultra-premium segment of the industry. Pocket springs are arguably the best type of spring system available on a mattress and the more of then, the better. The mount of springs do not dictate the level of firmness, rather, the more the better the product contours to every part of your body.

The Flaxby Natures Finest 8400 Dual Season Mattress stands out not just for the sheer volume of pocket springs, but also the new dual season design that makes this mattress great. This mattress is two sided with each side offering different degrees of temperature by utilising different filling composition. The end result is that one side will offer cooling, with the other side offering warming. Flip your mattress at the change of seasons to get the best comfort and sleep from it. Genius.

The Flaxby Natures Finest 8400 Dual Season Mattress is exclusively handmade by Harrison Spinks in the UK, a hugely reputable manufacturer that has helped see the industry as a while see great strides in terms of quality and comfort.

To showcase their fantastic manufacturing, Harrison Spinks and Flaxby offer a 5-year guarantee as standard which shows just how much faith they have in their products and what makes this product an absolute best buy.

What Makes The Flaxby Natures Finest 8400 Dual Season Mattress Great?

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

Exclusively handmade by Harrison Spinks in the UK

Handcrafted in the UK to the highest standards by skilled bedmakers. These superior quality mattresses offer sustainable luxury using the finest natural fillings. They are 100% foam, glue and FR chemical-free, they product zero landfill and even the Cortec™ Quad springs are recyclable.

Comfort Grade - Medium or Firm

Medium Firm is the optimal firmness for a mattress if you are looking for comfort but also suffer from some minor back problems. This is because this type of mattress will ease the amount of strain on your muscles but not in such a way to deter comfort, ensuring a great nights sleep

5 year guarantee

A 5 year guarantee is quite rare in the industry and is a great indicator of the retailer beleiving in their product. Anything go wrong in the next 5 years, no drama, get it replaced.

Hand-tufted

Hand Tufting is a labor intensive process that involves securing the fittings to a mattress rather than having them operate independently and loose within. This small act not only secures, but also leads to the mattress lasting longer and feeling firmer. A hand-tufted mattress is great for anyone looking for additional stability while they sleep.

Depth: 23cm

23CM of mattress height is about standard for a good quality product. While the height of a mattress does not necessarily correlate to the quality, it does become harder to get good quality materials and fillings into a smaller frame. To that end, a mattress of 23cm is a good sign that the mattress may be a quality product. For this size of mattress you should just about be able to use normal fitted sheets without issue.

Flaxby Care Guide

Flaxby offer care instructions to help get the most from your new addition. The instruction cover maintaining its appearance such as removing dirt and stains. It includes how to avoid damage from water and hot surfaces as well as actions to avoid like inadvertently removing fire-retardant coating. These instructions can come coupled with the warranty. It is important to follow the care instructions as not to void this warranty.

About Flaxby

The Flaxby collection by Harrison Spinks is hand-built by British craftsmanship and made exclusively for Dreams. Their mattresses consist of a pocket spring core coupled with a layer of tightly grouped mini pocket springs to fully contour to your body, relieving pressure points and providing support. Their unique perforated sides push airflow towards the surface keeping the mattress well ventilated and the temperature regulated. Even the Flaxby collection bed bases contain 2000 pocket springs to provide additional support. Add the finishing touch with their hand-crafted headboards, pick from customisable designs in luxurious fabrics to match your divan.

Double sided - Turn regularly and rotate head to toe weekly for the first three months, then every month thereafter

A double sided mattress has the comfort layer on both sides with the support layer sandwiched in the middle. This setup allows you to both flip and rotate the mattress allowing you to benefit from twice the surface area of comfort, improve settlement of fillings and increase the longevity of the sleep area on the mattress. All great things.

Pure and natural fillings

Pure and natural fillings are typically from animal or plant fibers. These can include: Wool, Cashmere, Hemp or Latex commonly.

Exclusively handmade by Harrison Spinks

Harrison Spinks product mattresses that are handmade in Yorkshire. They are filled with quality, long-lasting and natural mattress fillings as a comfort layer and further enhanced  by innovative pocket springs as a support layer. Harrison Spinks mattresses are renowned worldwide for their quality.

Luxurious damask sleeping surface

A damask cover is a quilt or blanket that has a pattern of small, repeated designs. These small designs are usually made from blocks of color. A damask cover can be made from many different types of fabric, such as cotton, satin and silk. The patterns on the damask covers can be simple or elaborate. The patterns can be made up of one color or a variety of colors. The name “damask” comes from the city of Damascus in Syria. The first damasks were woven in this city.

23cm depth

23cm of mattress depth is enough to house a typical good quality spring system with decent support and comfort layers while also being thin enough to accessorise with standard mattress sheets. No need for deeper sheets and further purchases as a result.

Traditionally hand-tufted to keep fillings aligned

A tufted mattress is often a sign of high quality, Unlike quilted mattress which binds the soft layer directly to the other layers, traditional tufting uses several thick straps to hold the layers together through the spring unit, binding it at each side.

100% recyclable Cortec™ pocket spring unit

The ideal choice in construction when choosing a mattress, pocket sprung mattresses offer, in our opinion, the best combination of support and comfort. The number of pocket springs can be equally important however

Split/zipped comfort grade options to keep both you and your partner sleeping happy

This product is available in multiple firmness grades, better than that however, is that both people sleeping on a mattress can have a completely different experience due to the different firmness ratings in each side. This means when your partner sleeps differently, has a different BMI and different requirements, they can have equal comfort, support and a great nights sleep.

Secured edges with two rows of hand stitching

Secured edges with hand stitching ensures the product is rugged enough to deal with the next 7-8 years of rotating and flipping that will become part of your 1-3 monthly routine. Weak edge support and poor stitching would otherwise cause problems a few years into your purchase.

5-year guarantee as standard

We love a good 5 year guarantee. With 1 year as standard for the vast majority of the mattress industry, 5 years is a pleasant surprise. Remember, the average mattress is typically replaced after a 7 year cycle so being able to have cover for any problems for most of that lifetime is a huge piece of mind benefit that often get's overlooked. Consider also, how much the brand and retailer clearly believe in the product, it is not in their best interests to offer a guarantee on something of poor quality.

Rotate regularly - rotate head to toe once a week for the first three months, then just once a month.

This is a mattress that should be rotated in order to ensure that fillings settle appropriately. Rotating also prevents any dipping.

Pure, natural fillings including Egyptian cotton, wool, mohair and hemp

Egyptian cotton is naturally breathable and help provide a cool, comfortable environment. With more than 80% of the world's population sensitive to humidity, it is imperative to sleep on a bed that will regulate temperature and humidity in the bedroom. The natural fibres in Egyptian cotton also help fight off dust mites and bacteria, helping create a healthier sleeping environment.

Double-sided: cooling and warming sides

A double sided mattress has the comfort layer on both sides with the support layer sandwiched in the middle. This setup allows you to both flip and rotate the mattress allowing you to benefit from twice the surface area of comfort, improve settlement of fillings and increase the longevity of the sleep area on the mattress. All great things.

Chemical-free, luxurious damask sleeping-surface

A damask cover can be made from many different types of fabric, such as cotton, satin and silk. The patterns on the damask covers can be simple or elaborate. The patterns can be made up of one color or a variety of colors. The name “damask” comes from the city of Damascus in Syria. The first damasks were woven in this city.

This mattress is double-sided

A double sided mattress has the comfort layer on both sides with the support layer sandwiched in the middle. This setup allows you to both flip and rotate the mattress allowing you to benefit from twice the surface area of comfort, improve settlement of fillings and increase the longevity of the sleep area on the mattress. All great things.

Turn over regularly - flip over regularly for the first three months, then just seasonally.

It is import to rotate your mattress because it helps ensure even settlement of fillings and ensure even distribution is maintained. Further to this it also means that more than one area of the mattress is used equally, increasing longevity and lifespan as part of typical mattress care.

At last, a good night's sleep.

This matteress has exactly the features I was looking at when doing my research. I wanted a firm but not hard feel. The main feature was the seasonal reversibility which not only allows an alternative summer/winter sleeping surface but makes sure the matteress is completly turned over twice a year. An added bonus is that it is made in Yorkshire.

Fairytale Mattress

The mattress is like sleeping on air. It is the Goldilocks of mattresses: not too hot, not too cold, not too hard, not too soft, it is just the right temperature and the right level of support to ensure that your sleep is as comfortable as can be. I am delighted with our mattress and can’t recommend it highly enough!!

5

Great mattress with flexibility

Great mattress, well made and very comfortable. It is also flexible in that you if you have a double or kingsize you can have two different levels of support joined by robust zips up the middle. The only negative is that it is more expensive than some but what cost for a great nights sleep

5

Seasonal Comfort

This mattress has been designed for those who are sensitive to changes in temperature. If you frequently wake up in the night due to being too hot or cold, the natural fibres in this mattress will offer the perfect solution for you.
