Dreams have really started stepping up with their new Dreams Workshop range of mattresses and here we have another delightful addition. Many years ago, a large portion of mattresses on show at this price point were being fitted with the lesser quality traditional spring support systems. Now though, with mattresses like the Barton, we're seeing pocket springs of great quality and good numbers starting to replace those older units and that is great news for consumers who are getting a far better product at a similar sort of price.
So who exactly is this mattress for? Fortunately the Barton has mass market appeal and while it may sit slightly firmer on the support scale, its high quality pocket spring support layer will appeal to many. Further to the support system, the comfort layers luxurious fillings punch well above their weight, offering a great degree of softness and comfort that we have seen work consistently well with this type of specification. We'd personally recommend this level of tension for back and stomach sleepers who should both find this specification comfortable.
What about those who won't find this mattress suitable? With a comfort grade of firm, this mattress may be a bit too solid for those core side-sleepers with a lower BMI than average, though everyone else should largely find this mattress suitable. The thing with mattress tensions is that it is all entirely subjective so it is hard to pinpoint what any person will determine as comfortable, however, there's a reason Dreams and other retailers are moving toward firmer products with time, and that's namely due to customer feedback.
Let's look more closely at the specifications. For this low price point you are getting a mattress that comes with a premium pocket spring support layer, my personal preference for the industry. Also, a pillow top to house more luxurious fillings and give a further comfort layer to what normally comes standard. What we're seeing here is a mattress that is going to be soft and comfortable due to the double-down on the comfort layer, while also offering decent body contouring support due to the pocket spring base.
For the price point you are getting a mid to high end mattress, evident by the pocket springs and deep soft fillings, but at a price point easily in the mid-tier. This helps highlight the extra value being gained in the mattress and the great support structure that frames the product. You can buy with a good degree of confidence as you are getting some great quality components in the Barton Pocket Sprung Mattress at a really reasonable price point.
Customer reviews are very positive with over 900 reviews to date and an impressive 95% consumer satisfaction showing that the vast majority of buyers love what they receive. Customers particularly enjoyed the tension with many reporting it helping with their bad backs. Others commented that the product was firmer than they expected but still gave it 5 stars, quoting the quality as being clearly of high grade. Negative reviews are far rarer but mainly seem sporadic around the peak covid era where quality control looks like it potentially had a couple of shake-y moments. These moments resulted in a few complaints around dipping that look to have since been resolved and have subsidised. Other complaints came in the form of a lingering odour but this was only mentioned by 2 customers out of a pool of 900.
When it comes to availability, the Barton comes in a variety of sizes including all the popular ones. We were a little disappointed to see no euro sizing available for this model and may penalise those with less space. Thankfully the popular sizes included have low lead times where Dreams has worked to increase speed and efficiency in their warehousing and logistics.
How does it feel?
Firmness of The Dream Team Barton Pocket Sprung Mattress depends on bodyweight. Adjust your weight below to get an indication of how it may feel. Remember though that firmness is entirely subjective.
Reasons to Buy
Quality premium pocket spring support layer at a lower than mid-range price point will surely delight customers who are looking for a good value proposition from their nights sleep.
Firm tension make it ideally suited for back sleepers while the pillow top gives a deep and luxurious additional comfort layer that customers generally seem to enjoy.
The 40-night sleep guarantee is great as it allows you to swap out if you do not enjoy it.
Reasons to Avoid
Pillow tops can be divisive with some customers not liking the additional comfort they offer. Downsides for a pillow top mattress is that you get a comfort layer that does much the same as a mattress topper but without the ability to remove it. That means any uneven settlement you will be left having to deal with so make sure you keep up to date with the manufacturers recommendation for rotation.
