Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

Look no further than our Staples & Co mattress range. With the Artisan Classic, you get exceptional premium materials - sourced from trusted sources and manufactured to the highest standards, so you can rest easy in the knowledge that the product you receive is not only quality bedding, but also kind to the environment. When it comes to sleep, it is important to make sure you have the right mattress for your sleep style and needs. This is why Staples and Co have created the right mattress for every type of sleeper. The range includes the perfect mattress for you and your partner, as well as the best mattress for different sleep positions. How does the Artisan Classic achieve this you ask? Through maximum accessibility thanks to varying support layers allowing you to pick the one right for you.

If you want a firmer mattress, you can use the Pillowtop layer to give you extra support and cushioning while still getting a much firmer support. If instead you prefer a softer mattress, choose from the Medium or Soft models. This means you can find a mattress that suits your needs perfectly.

A pillowtop with micro springs upper comfort layer is designed to be more responsive to the movement of your body than the average innerspring mattress - your weight, your partner’s weight, and even the movements you make while sleeping are all impacted by both the comfort layer and support layer. While the support layer beneath contains the coveted pocket springs in luxurious quantities, this top layer of micro springs accompanying a pillow top is particularly interesting and not seen on competing models. The result though is that you sink further without sacrificing the necessary support to not damage your back and neck while you sleep.

A deep luxurious mattress like the Artisan Classic  is a great choice for couples who tend to wake each other up frequently during the night. The organic wool and cotton layers in the Pillowtop mattress, coupled with the unique micro spring system, ensure that you feel supported and relaxed without disturbing your partner with your many movements throughout the night. The mattress also comes with a Zip and Link option for anyone who prefers one kind of support over another or who simply wants even more memory foam with another layer of support.

How does it feel?

Firmness of The Staples and Co Artisan Classic Mattress depends on bodyweight. Adjust your weight below to get an indication of how it may feel. Remember though that firmness is entirely subjective.

Reasons to Buy

Quality mattress from a very prestigious manufacturer designed for the upper segment.

Pillowtops can be divisive among the sleep community however, this pillowtop isn't your typical low quality upper comfort layer and the additional pillow top springs highlight the huge difference in quality.

10-year guarantee is particularly impressive.

Reasons to Avoid

Price point alienates much of the market, this really is one for those happy to get spendy.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

  • Breathability
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

  • Initial Odour
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Staples and Co Artisan Classic Mattress Great?

A total of 3000 premium pocketed springs & mini pocket springs provide the perfect foundation, individual support, and a durable, consistent sleep surface

Pocket springs are a type of mattress spring that is individually wrapped in its own fabric pocket. This allows each spring to move independently from the others, providing more targeted support and pressure relief. Pocket springs also tend to be more durable than other types of mattress springs, making them a good choice for people who are looking for a long-lasting mattress.

Posture-Plus edge support system to maximise the sleep surface & helps to extend the life of the mattress

A posture plus edge system occurs where additional firm springs are placed along all edges of the mattress to make for a firmer edge that gives you a full edge-to-edge nights sleep that also gives great support that when sitting on the end of the product.

Natural & organic fibres are blended to create luxury filling layers, most certified by the Global Organic textile standard

Blended fibres are a common comfort layer that sits in the top of the mattress and delivers increased comfort that has been endorsed by the GOTS, the leading organic textile standard.

Organic Wool and cotton fibres, great for temperature regulation and breathability

Wool is a great option for the comfort layer of mattresses for a number of reasons. First, it is breathable enough to allow air to flow sufficiently to ensure great all-season long cooling that won't have you too hot, or too cold. Additional to this you have other advantages like durability, flexibility, flame and water resistance. Ultimately wool is a sustainable and renewable option that is environmentally friendly and supremely comfortable.

Blend of GOTS approved Organic Cotton & Hemp fibres

The cotton and hemp fibers are both strong and durable, while the flax adds a touch of softness and comfort. This combination makes for a mattress that is both supportive and comfortable, and that will last for many years.

UK Alpaca wool is hypoallergenic and ultra-soft

Sourced from the UK, this Alpaca Wool is stronger and lighter than wool while being more resilient and harder wearing. All of this means a more durable mattress that should last longer than equivalent models  utilising different comfort layers.

Pillowtop layer offers sumptuous comfort

Pillow top's operate as an additional secured layer that gives further comfort at the cost of having an unremovable layer that mimics many of the properties of a traditional mattress topper. The pillow top can be somewhat divisive as some prefer a simple topper for additional versatility. Regardless though, a well maintained pillow top will give additional softness with reasonable settlement that should make for a deeper and more comfortable nights sleep.

Hand tufted for a firmer, supportive feel

There are a few benefits to hand tufting, namely that the procedure creates a more uniform comfort and feel while also increasing overall support. Further to this hand tufting reduces bounce slightly creating a more predictable sleep surface that increases durability.

Easy care - non-turn mattress

Non turn mattresses have a few benefits, most importantly that they do not need to be flipped, saving time effort and energy that can be better focussed toward getting a good nights sleep. Do be aware however that you should still be rotating your mattress in line with the manufacturers guidelines for the product.
