Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

The Cool Sensations 1400 Pocket Mattress is a high-quality mattress from the popular and respected industry leader Sleepeezee. Featuring an impressive 1400 pocket springs and a deep layer of memory foam you might expect this mattress to suffer from many of the typical pitfalls associated wit this particular comfort layer, however, this is not the case. Read on to see why.

The Comfort Layer

The mattress features a memory foam top layer that provides the comfort necessary to get a good nights sleep, in this instance featuring a deep and luxurious amount of high quality memory foam. Memory foam is generally regarded as one of the most popular materials demanded by customers in the mattress space and it is easy to see why. Drift effortlessly to sleep while the foam moulds to your every movement while you are lifted effortlessly into a floating like sensation. Easy to see why people like it right? But it is not traditionally without its downsides. See, memory foam get's warm, really warm. We do not typically recommend this comfort layer for those that require good temperature regulation and instead often recommend gel and latex equivalents. The Sleepeezee Cool Sensations 1400 Pocket Mattress is different in this instance however, featuring integrated hydrophilic fibres which help to keep you cool while you sleep and thereby revolutionising your nights sleep giving you the best of memory foam without the common pitfalls associated with it.

The Support Layer

The base of the mattress features pocket springs in a fairly large specification (1400) and is my personal favourite base layer for use in a mattress. See, many people will often ask for a memory foam mattress without any consideration for the rest of the components. The problem with this approach is the support layer is where all the tension and support is offered and it is a key ingredient of what gives a good nights sleep.  Pocket springs typically perform better than other support systems, giving better zonal support that contours to your body while also featuring better roll off and roll together prevention.

The support springs are twisted in a medium tension allowing you to get the perfect feel for your sleep style. We recommend medium as a tension time and time again because it works as a catch-all approach to offering good sleep. Whether you are a side sleeper or back sleeper, stomach sleeper or a mixture of all three, a medium is a fairly safe bet to get you a good nights sleep.

Reviews for the Sleepeezee Cool Sensations 1400 Pocket Mattress are still coming in as it is a fairly new product, however, feedback so far has been extremely positive as is expected with a brand of this quality.

Memory foam but without the common pitfalls.

Longer lead time than is common for the retailer, unfortunately there may be a bit of forward planning to avoid disappointment.

Limited sizing, while the popular sizes are all there, those with euro sizes will have to look elsewhere.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

  • Breathability
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

  • Initial Odour
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Sleepeezee Cool Sensations 1400 Pocket Mattress Great?

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Memory Foam

memory foam is one of the most well known materials used in the upper layer of mattresses. Memory foam basically contours to your entire body with moulding properties. Designed by NASA, this material rebounds to your touch and feels like you are floating on a cloud. Memory foam does not necesserily mean soft either, you can still have firm mattresses for those that want them with a bit of memory foam.

25cm deep

A 25cm mattress is a good depth for a product of quality. Plenty of room for some good quality springs and enough space for a good top layer of comfort. This side of product should just about fit a standard sheet but do not be surprised if you find you do need to upgrade to a deeper fill sheet to fit over the mattress.

Medium support

A medium tension mattress like this is the goldilocks of mattress tensions. Not too soft, nor too firm, medium is typically suitable for the vast majority of people that are looking for a good nights sleep. If you are of average build without back or neck problems, this should be a suitable product. If you are of lower BMI and a side sleeper, consider a softer mattress, whereas if you are of a higher BMI and suffer neck and back pain, consider a firmer tension.

Knitted Cover

It is common in the industry to have a knitted cover, these covers can come in a variety of patterns but are typically hard wearing and do not present problems for consumers.

Air Vents

When you sleep you also sweat, when this happens it generally leaks into the mattress. Sounds a little gross but that is the way it works, no drama however as matresses are built to be breathable and air out any moisture buildup, the addition of air vents helps ensure this happens with peak efficiency

No Need To Turn

This means that the product does not need to be turned over, but make no mistake, that is not the same as saying a product does not need to be rotated. If you do not want dips in your mattress with time, be sure to rotate evenly every month where possible

Pressure Relieving

Due to the support structure in place within this mattress it advertises as benefiting from pressure relieving properties. The way a mattress can achieve this is through the use of a good quality spring system that can contour to the body, providing tension equally across all areas of the body dependant on sleeping position and pressure

Turning Handles

Have you ever tried rotating or flipping a mattress without handles? You have to do that weird thing where you use your head as a third arm as you sort of nudge it with your face. Take the handles as a blessing

1400 Springs

Typically, the more springs the better. The average mattress has around 1000 springs and so anything more than that is considered good. The firmness/tension of a mattress is also not dictated by the amount of springs and so you do not need to worry about the firmness being unsuitable when it comes to spring count. Simply the more springs, the better the mattress can contour to your body. 1400 springs is considered good.
