Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

I purchased a double not a single mattress and, at the time of writing, have been sleeping on it for two weeks. So far it is comfortable but there is no dramatic difference to my sleep or to the pain in my back that I experience each morning on rising. Neither of those may be anything to do with the mattress and are certainly no worse than they were and may be a little better. I was told it took 40 days to get used to a new mattress and I am not near that time yet so the jury is out. I purchased a whole new bed to downsize from a super-king and the additional space in my bedroom is much appreciated together with the fact that I can now turn the mattress unaided. It is clearly a good quality product and the service I have had has been excellent.

What can I say. It cost 1,000+ so I would hope it gave a good nights sleep and it does. Just as good as my 40yrs old one. Not sure about the Clima Airstream gimmick. I still wake up sweating. Also, a little perturbed to read the care instructions state not to sit on the edge of the bed. I'm 65 yrs with chronic lung disease, I walked into Bensons with a walker carrying 2 oxygen tanks. I'm going to spend time on the edge of the bed catching my breath!! The assistant didn't mention anything about where to sit on the mattress at time of purchase. I hope I haven't made an expensive mistake.

Best night's sleep for a very long time, mattress doesn't sag at the sides when you sit on the edge of the bed. The wife needs a step at the side of the bed to get on it, cos she's only got little legs . It relaxes you as soon as you are in bed and aids a quick drop off. Noticed I stay asleep in the same position all night, as I used to wake up several times a night with my last bed. Mostly definitely worth the money, plus it puts you in the mood to redecorate the bedroom before it comes .'

Shortly after I paid for the bed and set a delivery date months later in July, the "How did we do" review requests started Now the bed had arrived and I've slept in it, I can say it's very comfortable, but Bensons really need to start asking for reviews AFTER the deliveries The delivery arrived in a tatty old Harveys van, but there was no issue with the delivery guys, who delivered everything I ordered (pillow, mattress, protectors) as well as collecting the old mattress without any fuss.

Really surprised that it was not more comfy! I know the one in the store would have been used by the public for a while, but we were really disappointed as it was just too firm for us, especially as we purchased this particular bed based on our instore assessment! We will see how it goes over the next 40 days!

We've had it for 3 weeks now and it seems comfortable just firm enough for our backs but not too hard I would say if anyone is getting this mattress as it is quite deep and needs deeper sheets that aren't always available in all shops and to check the size of your bed as it has made it quite high

Live this mattress, best nighrs dleep I have had in a long time, only disappointment was that it arrived very grubby in 1 corner and had no response regarding this from Bensons. Dont expect anything to be dirty on arrival when paying over 1400.00 for a bed after discount

This is an extremely comfortable mattress, with great support for both side and back sleepers. It is heavy, but the excellent construction includes good handles on all sides, so handling is manageable when it comes to turning. No hesitation in recommending this mattress.

I was used to a handmade mattress and so I was uncertain as to whether this mattress would be as comfortable. I am pleased to say it is extremely comfortable. I struggle with pressure point pain and this mattress is comfortable and supportive on my joints

Our Mattress is a King Size. It is probably the best mattress we have ever owned and I feel is a lot more suitable for us than silent night mattresses that we have had in the past. It seems to move with your body. Its like having a hug in your sleep. A+++

A very supportive and comfortable sleep. A good medium bed with a touch of softness - as Goldilocks might say - not too firm and not too soft - just right! A good choice as recommended by the Benson's team member. This is our third need from Benson's.
