Overview

becky says

Relyon is renowned for its great quality mattresses at affordable price points and it looks like we are following that trend with the Relyon Luxury Alpaca 2550 Pocket Mattress.

Featuring 2550 pocket springs by way of support layer you will quickly find that this mattress has full body contouring with full and measured edge-to-edge support and enough tension in the medium firmness springs to prevent any roll together that may otherwise occur.

Onto that all important comfort layer and we've got a swath of breathable materials handcrafted with natural cotton, alpaca, pashmina and wool all of which will help keep the top layer of the mattress soft while still keeping you cool and fresh.

The average mattress lasts around 7years but Relyon are so confident in their quality control and premium materials that they are including a free 8 year guarantee to protect against problems that arise within that time frame. This really showcases just how much confidence the retailer and brand both have in this product.

Reasons to Buy

The Relyon Luxury Alpaca 2550 Pocket Mattress is a sumptuously soft mattress that offers perfect support and a medium firmness rating. With a generous 2550 pocket springs, the mattress responds to your unique shape for a more comfortable and healthier sleep. Expertly hand-tufted with four rows of side stitching, the mattress provides extra durability while maintaining its soft fillings. This mattress comes with a luxurious damask cover that is hypoallergenic and easy to care for.

Reasons to Avoid

The mattress needs to still be rotated, this is different from flipping which would be unnecessary due to the single top layer of fillings. The rotation in itself is not a downside, almost all mattresses care guidelines suggest that you should do this regardless of which mattress you buy. The downside in this instance relates to the weight of the mattress with a few reviews commenting that the high quality spring system proved fairly heavy, making this rotation cumbersome and difficult. Unfortunately this is just a byproduct of good quality strong materials. To fix this Relyon have included 4 strong turning handles that should assist somewhat toward preventing too much inconvenience.

How does it feel?

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

What Makes The Relyon Luxury Alpaca 2550 Pocket Mattress Great?

Featuring luxurious layers of alpaca, pashmina and wool

Pashmina is a very fine type of spun cashmere which is made from the downy undercoat of the Changthangi goat and is renowned for it's softness and warmth.

These natural materials are breathable for a fresher, cooler night's sleep

A generous 2550 pocket springs provide perfect support

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer. When it comes to pocket springs and the quality within, the more springs generally the better as the density will increase contouring ever-closer to your body as you sleep.

Pocket springs respond to your unique shape

Pocket springs are of considerable better quality than their poorer traditional open coil counterparts. Put simply, pocket spring contours better and supports better than other base layers. When it comes to pocket spring mattresses, the general rule of thumb is that the more springs the better. There are exceptions, of course, but for the best part this is likely to be a good quality mattress based on it's base layer.

Perfectly balanced support in a medium firmness rating

A medium tension mattress like this is the goldilocks of mattress tensions. Not too soft, nor too firm, medium is typically suitable for the vast majority of people that are looking for a good nights sleep. If you are of average build without back or neck problems, this should be a suitable product. If you are of lower BMI and a side sleeper, consider a softer mattress, whereas if you are of a higher BMI and suffer neck and back pain, consider a firmer tension.

Expertly hand-tufted

Hand Tufting is a labor intensive process that involves securing the fittings to a mattress rather than having them operate independently and loose within. This small act not only secures, but also leads to the mattress lasting longer and feeling firmer. A hand-tufted mattress is great for anyone looking for additional stability while they sleep.

Firm edge support provides further durability

Edge support is really important and often found in the more premium end of mattresses. This edge support allows the edges of the mattress to have the same degree of tension as the inside of the product giving you confidence in the edges and helping to prevent roll of through the strengthened edge.

Four rows of side stitching secure the sumptuous fillings

Side stitching is a true mark of quality found in the upper-quality segment of mattresses. The process is very labor intensive as it involves attaching the side panel of the mattress to the pocket spring support layer found within a mattress helping to give better edge support and preventing roll-off.

Beautifully designed damask cover

A damask cover has a pattern of small, repeated designs. These small designs are usually made from blocks of color. A damask cover can be made from many different types of fabric, such as cotton, satin and silk. The patterns on the damask covers can be simple or elaborate. The patterns can be made up of one color or a variety of colors. The name “damask” comes from the city of Damascus in Syria. The first damasks were woven in this city.

Hypoallergenic for a cleaner, healthier sleep

Hypoallergenic mattresses are unlikely to cause allergies due to the materials involved, while the mattresses are not guaranteed to cause no reactions, they are the closest you will come with an off-the-shelf product toward preventing allergies.

Easy to care for - no need to flip over

It is import to rotate your mattress because it helps ensure even settlement of fillings and ensure even distribution is maintained. Further to this it also means that more than one area of the mattress is used equally, increasing longevity and lifespan as part of typical mattress care.

Built-in turning handles for easy moving when needed

This mattress comes with turning handles that will assist in the rotation and flipping of the product. May seem like no big deal selecting a mattress without handles, however, their use is critical in the movement of larger mattresses and can be the difference between pains and inconvenience and not,

Depth: 32cm

The industry standard for mattress depth is 7 inches, with most offering a comfortable 10 to 14 inches. Generally, the higher the load, the deeper it needs to be. But quality is important as a well-built 10-inch mattress can be equally as comfortable and supportive as a budget 12-inch mattress.  This 12.5 inch mattress gives the impression of luxury, whilst providing all the benefits of a regular mattress. With the development of the popular pillow top, depths can go up to 24 inches.

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

8 Year Guarantee

An 8 year guarantee is fantastic news for the consumer. A normal industry standard is 1 year. 8x the standard guarantee means that the supplier and retailer both feel that this product is pretty special. Buy with confidence, the average mattress typically gets replaced after 7 years and here we have the supplier offering beyond that

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Pashmina

Pashmina is a very fine type of spun cashmere which is made from the downy undercoat of the Changthangi goat and is renowned for it's softness and warmth.

Wool

Luxury wool, typically found in mattresses in a shredded and felted capacity is an upholstery fibre often used as a top comfort layer, but sometimes found further down in those mattress layers as part of the support structure

Damask cover

Damask is a fabric, woven in nature that is often used to upholster mattresses. It is typically made from linen or cotton and can typically be woven into delivate detailings required by the supplier. The fabrics are typically fairly hard wearing and should not cause problems

Hypoallergenic

This product is unlikely to cause any sort of allergic reaction. Ideal if you suffer from any sort of allergy problems

Reinforced mattress edge

One of the most common complaints in the industry is against mattresses with a weak mattress edge. It can often result in the user feeling like they are going to fall off the side of the bed and bed avoided. This mattress has a reinforced edge, something that helps ensure that particular scenario is avoided when you get close to a mattress edge while sleeping.

Medium

A Medium firmness mattress is the most common build offered due to the range of suitability offered in such a mattress. This type of mattress will be better suited toward averagely weighted people, while lighter people should opt for a medium-light, and heavier people considering a medium-firm.

32cm deep

32cm is a very chunky mattress. Note that this product is likely to include a thick comfort later as well as a decent sizes support layer. You will need deeper fitting sheets as this is an absolute beast.

Single-sided

Single sided means only one side is comfy. Positives are you only need to rotate the mattress occassionaly rather than the more cumbersome rotate and flip. Downside is the lifespan of the product may suffer as a result, only marginal, but worth mentioning.

Includes turning handles

Oh turning handles are pointless I hear you say. Just try flipping and turning this product without handles. It can be a pain. Remember that mattresses should be both rotated and flipped frequently, not a problem if you are opting for a sinle, but those doubles and kings can get heavy. Handles are very good.

Handcrafted in the UK

Handcrafted in the UK means that the product is built here, by people being paid a fair and honest wage using certified and safe products of good quality and construction. UK manufacturing is some of th best in the world and all of that is reflected in this product

Fire Resistant

Fire resistant does not mean the product will never catch fire, rather, it will not go up in flames quite so quickly. Resistant to fire in the same way that I am resistant to kisses, sooner or later you end up giving in.

Approved by the National Bed Federation

The NBF is one of the most prestigious awarding federations in the industry, helped slightly by the fact that it is one of the only, however, it is still a great source of comfort knowing that this product holds approval by the team
