Reasons to Buy

Extra firm tension for a orthopaedic feel that may aid in back and neck relief.

Reasons to Avoid

Fairly limited warranty and guarantee that does not give a huge amount of confidence. We'd prefer to see 5 years as the new standard, however, manufacturer defects are likely to be evident in the first 1 year if they were going to present themselves, at which point most customers would remain protected.

Key Performance Indicators

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the wizard above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

  • Breathability
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

  • Initial Odour
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

  • Overall Brand Rating
  • This is based on community driven customer reviews tied to product reviews and grouped together at a brand level to produce a score.

What Makes The Hyder Backcare Ultimate 2000 Mattress Great?

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

1 year guarantee included

1 year guarantee is average in the UK mattress industry. While it should not put you off (mattresses typically last for 7 years before being replace), it is the minimum that you get with a product. Depending on your price point, you might be able to attract a higher warranty or guarantee period

No roll together

Specifically designed with roll together prevention in mind. This means the product likely has better quality internals and offers better support than other mattresses in the same price point.

Extra firm support

An extra firm tension mattress is typically suited toward back and front sleepers as they provide a stable and even surface with a focus toward those who enjoy sleeping "on top" of their mattress rather than sinking into it.

Orthopaedic Support

Do you suffer from back pain? If so you will likely find that an orthopaedic mattress will be massively beneficial to you. Slightly firmer in the comfort side of things but ultimately with a better support layer means that your back and neck will thank you for years to come.

Turning Handles

Have you ever tried rotating or flipping a mattress without handles? You have to do that weird thing where you use your head as a third arm as you sort of nudge it with your face. Take the handles as a blessing

Individual Pocket Springs

The ideal choice in construction when choosing a mattress, pocket sprung mattresses offer, in our opinion, the best combination of support and comfort. The number of pocket springs can be equally important however

NBF Approved Product

NBF stands for the National Bed Federation and is at the forefront of standards and legislation in the UK bed industry, these guys oversee the entire bedding industry with their mark and brand only being associated to those that follow a certain criteria of care and standards.

26cm deep

26CM is a deep mattress. This sort of mattress may require a slightly deeper fitted sheet to avoid it constantly popping off. That aside, 26CM is above the industry average in terms of depth and while not necesserily a guarantee of quality, you cannot get comfort and quality from a thin mattress

You are able to both rotate and flip this mattress. This is going to prolong the life of the mattress as you effectively have twice the surface area to make use of. This means that dipping should be reduced over a prolonged period

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Luxury wool, typically found in mattresses in a shredded and felted capacity is an upholstery fibre often used as a top comfort layer, but sometimes found further down in those mattress layers as part of the support structure

Pure Wool

Natural wool is a breathable, comfortable filling that reduces heat in the summer and provides warmth in winter. It also has fire-retardant properties.

Pressure Relieving

Due to the support structure in place within this mattress it advertises as benefiting from pressure relieving properties. The way a mattress can achieve this is through the use of a good quality spring system that can contour to the body, providing tension equally across all areas of the body dependant on sleeping position and pressure

5 Year Warranty Included

A mattress warranty covers physical defects in workmanship and materials. This warranty covers 5 years, giving you extra peace of mind over a standard 1-year warranty. Most mattress warranties last between 5-20 years.

Extra Firm Support (6)

An extra firm tension mattress is typically suited toward back and front sleepers as they provide a stable and even surface with a focus toward those who enjoy sleeping "on top" of their mattress rather than sinking into it.

Warranty / Guarantee

This product comes with a warranty / guarantee on purchase. This is standard EU legislation. You will also get a standard 14day distance selling period whereby you will be able to return the product provided you abide to the retailers guidelines and return policy

Customer Reviews For The Hyder Backcare Ultimate 2000 Mattress

Based on 5 reviews

Fantastic mattress - pretty deep, so i'd suggest making sure you buy at least "deep" and maybe even "extra deep" mattress protectors/sheets with this. It's very comfortable indeed, i'm a big guy (!) And need a very firm mattress, and this is well up to the task. I could comfortably sleep on this in any position, including flat on my back (which normally leaves me waking up in the night with a stiff lower back) without any problems. Highly recommended if you want a firm mattress!

Great mattress and it is just as it says in the description. It is firm and does offer me a comfortable sleep at night.

Hard but with a soft top making it good for the back & still comfy! Would recommend a mattress topper with it

I bought this extra firm mattress a few weeks ago and it is so comfortable.

Dies exactly what is says on the tin! Absolutely divine.
