Why our sleep experts loved it
You spend one-third of your life sleeping, so it’s important to find a mattress that helps you sleep better and feel refreshed in the morning. Whether you struggle with back pain, neck pain, or just general aches and pains from an old mattress, a great mattress can make all the difference. The new Toulouse ortho mattress offers everything you need for a better night’s sleep thanks to a rigid support layer made up of firm pocket springs complimented by a luxurious layer of recycled and environmentally friendly fillings that are soft to the touch and perform well. The result is a comfortable and supportive new mattress that won’t break the bank.
Let’s start by looking at who this mattress is for, and in the case of the Toulouse, it's coming up trumps at suiting those who require a little bit of extra support, particularly in the back and neck areas. This firmer tensioned support layer of premium pocket springs will contour to your body and respond to your every movement while applying pressure where you need it most. Pocket springs are generally regarded as the best support layer available and outperform poorer quality open coil springs and reflex foam. The result is an ideally suited spring system to assist those who need that extra support.
In terms of who won’t find the Toulouse suitable and the list will include those who typically sleep on their side. Firmer mattresses simply do not have enough sink-age to adequately support a frame that consistently sleeps on their side and are generally best avoided if this is primarily how you sleep.
When it comes to market conditions and where this mattress places, the price point is still in the budget price band, albeit only just. That said though we are seeing a lot of good quality components with the Toulouse that suggest it is punching above its price class and giving more than you would expect. The support layer of pocket springs for example is typically found in mid range and premium offerings while the recycled filling material is going to be where the retailer saves some of that money to justify the price point. Regardless of the cost saving in the comfort layer, you are getting better quality support for the price and the compromise here seems well worth it.
On the firmness scale we would categorise this as a 7 as there are other firmer options in the Bensons for Beds range that consist of very firm board-like bases. The 7 rating makes it ideal for back sleepers who require additional support while those who sleep on their side should typically consider something with a softer tension.
Onto customer feedback and the Toulouse is still very new meaning that there is no customer feedback to report. That said, this mattress has come along a few times over the years with different covers and names and it is not a configuration that we haven’t seen before from the retailer. This should give additional confidence as the product is safely in the remit of a manufacturer and brand that have been decades in the making with thousands of positive reviews. For those still not convinced, you also get a free 5-year guarantee that goes beyond the 1-year minimum that we see plaguing the industry.
