Overview

Introducing the Tivoli Backcare Mattress from Bensons for Beds. This mattress has a support layer of pocket springs which is our personal favourite and aims to offer a premium and performance oriented support layer while offering a unique value standpoint.  The Tivoli is a two sided mattress which typically means it has a comfort layer on both sides. what makes this one stand out though is the layers on each side are not the same, instead opting for different materials to make one warming and one cooling. One of the first all-season mattresses in the Bensons for Beds lineup. In this instance you get English Wool in one side and synthetic fibres in the other.

The support layer does more than contour against your body, thanks to the pocket spring design of this product you also get the benefit of full edge-to-edge support and no roll together. Combine that with the individual support offered thanks to those same pocket springs and the result is an all-season mattress that gives each sleeper a truly individual and undisturbed sleep making it great for partners and those who sleep together.

The tension of the Tivoli is firm which makes it ideal for back sleepers whom are looking for a bit more orthopaedic support but still in need of deep comfort layers. For those looking for something firmer, there is also an extra firm version available.

Reasons to Buy

Pocket springs are a great value support layer.

All-season mattresses are increasingly durable thanks to that two sided design giving twice the surface area of usage.

Fantastic 5 year guarantee beats much of the competition.

Reasons to Avoid

Might be a bit too firm for side sleepers or those of lower BMI

Key Performance Indicators

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the wizard above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Tivoli Backcare Mattress Great?

Made in Britain

These are made and manufactured in the Great Britain, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine Great Britain manufacturing.

5-year guarantee

This is an exceptional guarantee that is fairly uncommon within the industry, this shows that the retailer and supplier both have huge confidence in the product that they are selling. Any problems in the first 5 years? Call them and they will sort it.

Side 1 - Layers of English Wool for warmth in Winter

This is a 2 sided mattress that has different comfort layers on each side. The first side is made primarily of wool which makes it both comfy and warm, making it ideal for the winter months.

Side 2 - Layers of polyester for coolness in Summer

This is a 2 sided mattress that has different comfort layers on each side. The comfort layer on the alternate side of this product is made primarily of polyester which makes it both soft and cool, making it ideal for those warm summer months,

Total 1000 firm pocket springs for edge-to-edge support

Pocket springs are mostly made of round coiled steel wire and are contained in separate compartments (like pockets) within the mattress, offering better body contouring and impressive and well-measured support across the entire surface area.

Available in sizes: Single, Small Double, Double, King and Super King

This mattress is not available in custom sizes, caravan sizes or ikea sizes. Instead, this mattress is available in the universally common mattress sizes to suit most people, my preference is a king size, big enough to starfish in while being small enough to fit in most rooms comfortably.

BSI - British Standard Kitemark™ accreditated

The British Standard Kitemark is a standard produced by the BSI Group which is incorporated under a royal charter for safety, relaibility and conformity with British expectations and standards.

Pocket-sprung double-sided seasonal mattress

A double sided mattress is one that comes with comfort layers on both sides. The benefit of this for the customer is that you get twice the surface area through a series of rotation and flipping that should become second nature to you as part of the recommended mattress care guidelines. A mattress that can be flipped means you get better settlement of springs and fillings over time which may also prevent dipping over the long term.

Double sided - Flip seasonally and turn regularly to prolong mattress

A double sided mattress is one that comes with comfort layers on both sides. The benefit of this for the customer is that you get twice the surface area through a series of rotation and flipping that should become second nature to you as part of the recommended mattress care guidelines. A mattress that can be flipped means you get better settlement of springs and fillings over time which may also prevent dipping over the long term.

Firmness rating: Firm

When we fall asleep, our muscles relax and what that does is it allows our body to decompress. But when we're sleeping on a too soft mattress, the muscles don't have enough support and they're not getting the proper relaxation. The benefits of a firm mattress are that you're going to sleep more soundly,  your back pain is going to be relieved and you're going to have less muscle aches and pains.

Mattress height: 27.5cm

With a mattress height of 27.5cm, this product has sufficient depth to offer a deep and luxurious sleep while still fitting normal bedsheets. This depth of mattress is fairly standard but is likely not suitable for the top level of a bunk bed.

Individually encased pocket springs for independent support and comfort to ensure no roll together

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer.
