becky says

Relyon is one of the world's most popular mattress manufacturers, generally targeting the upper quality segment while still keeping prices moderate and reasonable.

The Matisse Pocket 1000 mattress has been specially designed and built to the highest standards, so you can be sure that this mattress will provide you with both comfort and support for years to come. With 1000 individual pocket springs, the mattress gently moulds around your body to provide a perfect level of support.

It utilises one of the best spring systems that you can get, offering better body contouring than open coil and reflex foam equivalents.

The mattress is also easy to maintain with its built-in turning handles and hypoallergenic materials that make it the ideal choice for those that suffer from allergies and are looking to mitigate impact and risk.

Key Performance Indicators

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the wizard above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Relyon Matisse Pocket 1000 Mattress Great?

1000 individual pocket springs for perfect support

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer. When it comes to pocket springs and the quality within, the more springs generally the better as the density will increase contouring ever-closer to your body as you sleep.

Supportive reflex foam

Reflex foam is extremely supportive and is ideal for those who need extra support for lower and upper back pain. The pressure is spread evenly over large pockets of trapped air distributing the weight outwards from a singular spot. Once the weight is removed the material will spring back into its original shape. It offers an orthopaedic feel keeping the spine aligned, is cheaper than memory foam and there is no 'sinking' feeling.

Soft white fibre fillings for enhanced comfort

Air vents help improve mattress breathability

Vents are necessary within a mattress to ensure that air flow carries throughout the mattress and that resting-moisture is reduced. A breathable mattress is a hygienic mattress and considering mattress lifespan, it's quite important.

Firm and supportive

When we fall asleep, our muscles relax and what that does is it allows our body to decompress. But when we're sleeping on a too soft mattress, the muscles don't have enough support and they're not getting the proper relaxation. The benefits of a firm mattress are that you're going to sleep more soundly,  your back pain is going to be relieved and you're going to have less muscle aches and pains.

Hypoallergenic for your peace of mind

Hypoallergenic means that the materials used in the mattress are relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. That's not to say they won't, rather, every care has been made to reduce the risk for those that do suffer from allergies.

Double-sided for a traditional feel and extra comfort

Built-in turning handles for easy moving and handling

This mattress comes with turning handles that will assist in the rotation and flipping of the product. May seem like no big deal selecting a mattress without handles, however, their use is critical in the movement of larger mattresses and can be the difference between pains and inconvenience and not,

Hand-tufted with felt tufts to firmly secure the fillings

Hand tufting typically makes a mattress feel firmer due to how the stitching from the cover carries through the mattresses layers. It is a great way to keep everything tight and together within the different mattress layers and acts as an increased tension providing better back and neck support.

Three rows of side stitching to support the mattress borders

Side stitching is really important as it prevents bulging of the side walls on pocket sprung mattresses. The side stitching is a process whereby the stitching on the edging of the mattress is attached to the outer springs and supporting bar within.

Total mattress depth: 29cm

29cm is a fairly good depth for a good quality mattress. Plenty of room for a decent spring system and enough fillings to provide more than enough comfort. While depth is not necessarily a guarantee of quality, it certainly helps.

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Reflex foam

Reflex foam is basically like memory foam without the memory part. Reflex foam is used more as a supportive layer than a comfort layer and is often used as an alternative to conventional spring systems.

Soft white fibres

White fibres tend to be a mixture of polester and other non-descript synthetic fibres

Damask cover

Damask is a fabric, woven in nature that is often used to upholster mattresses. It is typically made from linen or cotton and can typically be woven into delivate detailings required by the supplier. The fabrics are typically fairly hard wearing and should not cause problems

Air Vents

When you sleep you also sweat, when this happens it generally leaks into the mattress. Sounds a little gross but that is the way it works, no drama however as matresses are built to be breathable and air out any moisture buildup, the addition of air vents helps ensure this happens with peak efficiency

Firm

Firm mattresses are great for those looking for an extra bit of support, either because they have a higher BMI and leanm toward the heavier side, or because they have joint and muscle pain and appreciate a decent amount of support while they sleep. If you are not actively looking for a firm mattress it may be wise to consider something else from the range that is perhaps closer to the medium firmness rating

29cm deep

Most experts recommend a minimum of 4 inches on the top layer and 6 inches for the core so this is ideal at 11/12 inches. Generally, the heavier the load the deeper the mattress should be. This depth covers a wide range of body type sitting comfortably in the most popular section of the scale.

Double-sided

Double sided just means that the product can be flipped and still retain the same level of comfort. The fillings and dibres inside the product are capable of operating in any direction. Handy for settlement and to prevent dipping.

Includes turning handles

Oh turning handles are pointless I hear you say. Just try flipping and turning this product without handles. It can be a pain. Remember that mattresses should be both rotated and flipped frequently, not a problem if you are opting for a sinle, but those doubles and kings can get heavy. Handles are very good.

Fire Resistant

Fire resistant does not mean the product will never catch fire, rather, it will not go up in flames quite so quickly. Resistant to fire in the same way that I am resistant to kisses, sooner or later you end up giving in.

Approved by the National Bed Federation

The NBF is one of the most prestigious awarding federations in the industry, helped slightly by the fact that it is one of the only, however, it is still a great source of comfort knowing that this product holds approval by the team

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

8 Year Guarantee

An 8 year guarantee is fantastic news for the consumer. A normal industry standard is 1 year. 8x the standard guarantee means that the supplier and retailer both feel that this product is pretty special. Buy with confidence, the average mattress typically gets replaced after 7 years and here we have the supplier offering beyond that

Hypoallergenic

This product is unlikely to cause any sort of allergic reaction. Ideal if you suffer from any sort of allergy problems

Handcrafted in the UK

Handcrafted in the UK means that the product is built here, by people being paid a fair and honest wage using certified and safe products of good quality and construction. UK manufacturing is some of th best in the world and all of that is reflected in this product

Had my Relyon mattress for a couple of months now, it took me a couple of nights to get used the support. It's slightly firmer than my old mattress but that's a good thing. My lower back is feels much better, I think it's great value and my partner has no complaints either.

This is a medium firmness mattress and is very comfy for my 13 year old daughter. It might be a bit on the soft side for an adult as a permanent mattress but good for an occasional spare room mattress. Very pleased with purchase.

Cheaper than high street price. Only had it 3 weeks but seems comfortable and better for my achy back. I did out a 5'm foam layer on purely because it was in my other bed and its made it even more snuggly now.

Seems a good mattress about 4 weeks in. Quite firm and supportive, though I had got used to the enveloping comfort of the topper on my previous mattress which this lacks.
