Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

Memory foam has revolutionised the mattress industry, and with a Slumberland Airstream Memory 2000 mattress, you can enjoy all of the best benefits of this innovative material. From the award winning Slumberland brand comes a new product featuring a fantastic combination of both memory foam and pocket spring technology. Let's dive in a little deeper on what makes each layer so special.

In the top layer we have an impressive and deep 30mm layer of a Sensaform memory foam which is developed by NASA to mould to body contours that will hug and provide comfort for years to come. One of the primary reasons people avoid memory foam is down to breathability issues causing the sleeper to get too hot as they rest. To combat this, Slumberland have implemented three zones of air holes, allowing breathability through enhanced airflow which will make for a cooling and more pleasant sleep experience.

Onto that all important support layer and we come to an impressive layer of pocket springs of good quality steel springs which have been up-cycled and repurposed giving the mattress that eco-edge over the competition. For those unaware, pocket springs are generally regarded as one of the more well-rounded performers in the support sector, offering full body contouring that will support each area of your body while you sleep.

Finally, you get an impressive and complete 8 year guarantee which is longer than the average mattress lifecycle and is one of the best in the industry. The guarantee is a testament to how much the retailer and manufacturer both believe in the product.

How does it feel?

Firmness of The Slumberland Airstream Memory 2000 Mattress depends on bodyweight. Adjust your weight below to get an indication of how it may feel. Remember though that firmness is entirely subjective.

Reasons to Buy

Soft comfort layer in the memory foam works really well and is a fan-favourite.

2000 pocket springs are at the premium end and work particularly well compared to poorer alternatives.

Premium brand with all popular sizes available and relatively reasonable lead times.

Reasons to Avoid

Chemical smell that does not go away for some customers.

Memory foam topping not deep enough for a few reviewers who wanted a deeper layer.

Mixed opinions on firmness levels, with some feeling it is too soft and others too firm. We find this a perfect medium which will work well for both back and side sleepers.

If you need in a hurry you might need to consider something different.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Ease of Use

  • Turning handles
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses typically need to be rotated frequently and having turning handles can be massively beneficial, particularly in larger sizes which can become fairly heavy.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Slumberland Airstream Memory 2000 Mattress Great?

Pocket sprung mattress with luxury cleaner, greener memory foam layer

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer. When it comes to pocket springs and the quality within, the more springs generally the better as the density will increase contouring ever-closer to your body as you sleep.

Firmness rating: Medium

A medium tension mattress is largely suitable for most people of average BMI. Not too soft, nor too firm this mattress has enough softness in the tension to allow you to sink, while providing enough support to contour to your body.

Free full 8-year guarantee.

An 8 year guarantee is substantially better than the market average. When you consider the average lifespan of a mattress comes in at around 7 years, this length of guarantee gives you full-coverage for your mattress. The minimum guarantee in the UK is 1 year.

BSI – British Standard Kitemark™ accredited

The BSI Kitemark is an accreditation that is part of the offering from BSU. The mark has become popular in recent years, allowing manufacturers to broadcast their quality and safety through the help of the badge to prospective consumers. BSI Kitemarks are now recognised across the world as a symbol of great craftsmanship and quality.

800 premium pocket springs which offer unique sleeper support

All steel springs upcycled and repurposed

It might not count for much, but the spring support layer in this mattress has been upcycled from materials that have been repurposed. You still get the same guarantee and the same high quality components, it's just a little bit better on the environment, with less going into landfill.

Active Dynamic perimeter support for both sleepers

A smooth consistent sleep surface all the way to the edge

Edge support offers a sturdy border across all edges of the mattress and gives you the opportunity to sleep in more positions and fully spread out on the product, embracing each and every part of the mattress and not having to stick to the middle. This is because the edging is reinforced and gives you that feeling of stability and roll-off prevention while you sleep.

New Exclusive 30mm layer of a greener cleaner Sensaform memory foam developed to mould to bodily contours

Memory foam is one of the most desirable and in demand comfort layers around, outperforming others when it comes to sheer desire. This foam was first developed with NASA and was first used for commercial applications shortly after. The soft and body moulding properties of this layer makes it very appealing to those looking for a weightless nights sleep. Be aware however that temperature regulation continues to be an issue with this layer, though there has been improvement in recent years with additional cooling solutions offered through select ranges.

Outstanding reactive pressure relief and minimised motion transfer

Superior breathability through the implementation of three zones of air holes

Provides a gentle response where you need it most

Truecomfort sleek quilted Mattress surface made with recycled sustainable fillings

Truecomfort has a naturals range and a recycled range with this mattress being part of the latter. The fillings are found in the comfort layer which sits above the support layer and is where the user will find most of the comfort properties of the product. The recycled materials in the Truecomfort surface are made up from plastic bottles, refactored and woven into an extremely soft yet durable layer that will provide comfort for years to come.

100% natural mattress treatment to prevent allergies

An anti-allergy mattress helps prevents dust mites from penetrating the surface of the product and settling within the fabric. The anti allergy layer also helps reduce allergies thanks to a reduction in mold and mildew that can otherwise build up.

Easy care non-turn mattress, rotate occasionally

Non turn mattresses basically mean that the mattress is one sided, this means that the fillings and topper are only on one side so make sure when you first receive the mattress that you put the comfortable side on top otherwise you will have a very uncomfortable sleep. Take note however, a non-turn mattress should still be rotated frequently to prevent the common dip that you may otherwise get from sleeping in the same position over time.

Handles on all sides to aid rotation

Rotating a mattress can actually be a bit of a pain without help and support. That's why we've included some handy-handles to make the job a little easier. Mattresses average around 35-40kg, without handles you sort of have to do that weird third-arm with your head thing that is both unflattering and fairly useless. Trust us, get handles.

Eco-friendly polythene packaging

As the world moves more green it seems only fitting that the packaging moves with the times. As such, you'll have more efficient packaging with less plastic and more recycled content.

Mattress height: 25.5cm

This is a pretty decent depth for a mattress. Not too thick that you need specialist covers and sheets, nor too thin that you're left questioning the quality of the product. While this depth is not in itself a guarantee of quality, it's a fairly good indicator though and you'll be able to utilise existing bedding.

Part of the Airstream Memory Collection – Exclusive for Bensons for Beds

The Airstream Memory Collection is part of the popular manufacturer Slumberland and its expansive plans alongside Bensons for Beds. The Airstream Memory Collection utilises Sensaform memory foam in the comfort layer that addresses many of the breathability issues that have traditionally plagued memory foam mattresses and ensures for a great all-season not-too-hot-nor-too-cold experience that aims to delight sleepers. Armed with a 8 year guarantee across the range, you get fantastic cover that will ensure buyers are not out of pocket.

Customer Reviews For The Slumberland Airstream Memory 2000 Mattress

Based on 85 reviews
3

I have been sleeping on this mattress for just 21 nights so its too early to rate the stars properly. I laid on the pro tec bed which determined I was suited to a Medium support mattress so I chose this one but I am finding it firmer than expected so not as comfortable as I had wanted. I am hoping this will change in time but whether that will happen within the 40 days trial remains to be seen. The bed itself looks good and appears to be of good quality for the money.

4

Still trying to get used to this new mattress after three weeks of sleeping on it. Seems reasonably comfortable, but the memory foam topping could be deeper, as it didnt make the mattress any softer and I have put my old memory foam topper on it to make it more comfortable.

4

Excellent mattress. only one slight problem - it's a lot thicker than the old mattress and as my wife is disabled she now has more difficulty getting in and out of bed. I should have checked this dimension before ordering.

A comfortable bed ( best I have tried so far ) . I need a soft to medium firm mattress as I am a side sleeper with sore hips. I did wonder about the soft version but decided that might be a bit too soft
