A smart mix of practicality, tech, and a bit of luxury, the Foley Upholstered Ottoman TV Bed Frame makes modern comfort feel properly indulgent. I got hands-on with this one in person and, I’ll be honest, it’s the sort of bed that makes you stop and have a proper look because it’s not just another upholstered frame. If you love a bit of screen time in bed (or just like the convenience), this bed frame ticks the main boxes.
How we tested
Our testing involved both subjective and objective checks to see how well this bed frame held up. Using a mix of industry benchmarks and real-world use, we looked at its structure, materials, craftsmanship, comfort level, and the all-important TV mechanism over a decent period of time. I spent time opening and closing the ottoman, running the TV up and down repeatedly, and sitting on the edge like you would when you’re putting socks on. We inspected the bed frame by day, looking over the details of its design and features, then put it to good use by night to test comfort, practicality, and how enjoyable it is to live with.
Design and features
The Foley Upholstered Ottoman TV Bed Frame mixes looks and function nicely. The design caught our eye straight away with its winged headboard and vertical panelling, which adds a touch of traditional charm to an otherwise modern design. The navy velvet-touch upholstery has a classy look and feel, while complementing most bedroom decor themes. Up close, the fabric felt soft rather than slick, and the headboard has that padded, slightly ‘huggy’ feel when you lean back with a couple of pillows.
On the practical side, it comes with a 32” SMART TV as standard, tucked away at the foot end - handy for late-night viewing or gaming sessions. The TV lifting mechanism is controlled by a wireless remote and works smoothly, but it’s not silent, you do hear the motor doing its thing in a quiet room. The screen size will feel spot on for some, but if you’re used to a bigger telly it can feel a bit modest from pillow distance. The side-opening ottoman storage is 30 cm deep, and there’s a support bar to keep the bed raised while you’re using it - a small detail, but genuinely useful day to day. One thing to think about is the side-opening design, you need clear space on the opening side, so in a tight box room it can be a bit of a faff.
Construction
The Foley Upholstered Ottoman TV Bed Frame feels durable, and it’s clearly built with quality in mind. When I pressed down on the slats and gave the frame a bit of a wobble test, it stayed reassuringly solid, and the sprung slats had a nice bit of give without feeling bouncy or cheap. The construction shows good craftsmanship, which should help it last well over time. The sprung slats add support and also play a big part in how comfortable it feels in use.
Edge support is decent for a frame like this, but sitting right on the side (especially near the foot end where the TV section lives) you can feel a bit more movement than you would on a simpler divan style base. Also worth saying, this is not a light frame once you factor in the TV mechanism, so getting it upstairs and into position is a proper two-person job. And because there’s more going on mechanically than a standard ottoman, it’s the sort of thing you’ll want to be a bit careful with long term, it’s not as ‘fit and forget’ as a basic base.
Suitability
The Foley Upholstered Ottoman TV Bed Frame suits anyone who likes a bit of tech in the bedroom and wants comfort without fuss. It’s also a good shout if you want something stylish and elegant, plus extra storage space - the ottoman compartment is a big part of the appeal.
What customers thought
Owners mostly love it. The looks come up again and again, along with how solid the frame feels. One owner called it “very well made and simple to put together”, and most who built it themselves say much the same, though another’s “only regret is that we didn’t pay for assemble as it took us a long time to put up as beginners”. The ottoman gets plenty of praise for how much it holds, with one owner reporting they “can fit all of our travel suitcases easily”.
Most owners who mention the TV lift are happy with it. Some find it smooth and quiet. One found it loud with a partner asleep, and others had a lift that struggled or wobbled: “the TV does not rise smoothly”, as one put it. A few also found the ottoman hard work to lift once the mattress is on, which one owner described as “stiff and heavy to begin with”.
The serious complaints are about reliability. A handful of owners had the hinges on the TV cover snap, one writing that “the TV cover hinge snapped on both side”, and others had the motor or electrics fail early: “Within 2 weeks the motor failed and the TV would not come up.” A smaller gripe is the colour. One owner who chose the navy found it “looked closer to black than blue”.
The verdict
It’s not cheap, but the Foley Upholstered Ottoman TV Bed Frame pulls together convenience, luxury, and tech in a way that feels well thought out. For me, the main appeal is that it actually feels like a proper bed first and a gadget second, the TV is a bonus rather than the whole point. It’ll frustrate anyone wanting lots of adjustable options or a wider range of colours, but the built-in SMART TV and the option of a 4k variant (especially for modern gaming systems) make it tempting. I’d also like to see little practical touches like proper lifting handles as standard, because with the weight of the base it’s not something you want to be wrestling with one-handed. If you want something a bit different that’s genuinely useful as well as good-looking, this one makes a lot of sense.
