When you think of getting a new mattress, the first thing that comes to mind is cost. But there are several other factors you also need to keep in mind. Let’s face it, whether we like it or not, a mattress is something that we use almost every day for about eight hours at a stretch. Which means investing in the right one is essential if you want to get the most out of your new bed and its accompanying nights of restful sleep. Thankfully there is the Bed Butler Ashbourne 2000 Pocket Natural Mattress to save the day, helping to improve REM sleep and provide a solution for those looking for a firmer nights sleep with enhanced orthopaedic support. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s find out.
What is it made of?
The Bed Butler Ashbourne 2000 Pocket Natural Mattress is a pocket spring mattress that is sold exclusively through the popular retailer, MattressNextDay. The product utilises an upper comfort layer of fibre fillings of wool, silk and cashmere (although we were unable to get GSM numbers for the exact ratio). The result of this combination of materials is that you get a breathable and cooling experience that promotes increased airflow while you sleep. What’s more, you get a super soft feel in the comfort layer that helps offset some of the firmness of the support layer below.
Further to the above, you also have enhanced edge protection thanks to the premium pocket springs in the base layer. This beats out traditional spring mattresses that do not have reinforced barriers and the result is that you have enhanced roll-off protection.
How firm is it?
The mattress is specifically designed with firmer tension in mind, giving enhanced protection for those who want additional support for their back and neck. In practice this tension feels closer to a medium-firm in our opinion, coming in at a 6-7 out of 10 where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. The result is a slightly softer mattress than some may expect, however, still sufficient for many who need a bit more support.
Due to the slightly softer than firm experience, the amount of people that may find this product suitable might have increased as side sleepers may also find this suitable. That said, it is still primarily targeted toward back sleepers.
Something that is often overlooked is the ease of movement on the mattress. In a growing age of foam tops, movement can become increasingly challenging which might disturb REM sleep. Thankfully, the deep fillings of wool and cashmere utilised here do not have the same sinking properties and mean you have far better movement when sleeping on this mattress.
If however, you find that you get too hot at night then this could be the ideal mattress for you as the breathability of all of the materials within this product are ideally suited toward promoting airflow and reducing sweat and moisture build up.
