Why our sleep experts loved it
I’ve been sleeping on the Hypnos Bespoke Grandeur for the past few weeks, a traditional, turnable pocket-sprung mattress with an emphasis on natural fibres and old-school craftsmanship. The Grandeur is a beautifully made bed with a superb guarantee, but also a very high ticket price that positions it at the top end of the premium market. If you are trying to judge long-term value against up-front cost, here is how it feels and performs in the real world.
Construction & Materials
This is a 30 cm deep, two sided mattress built around 1800 ReActivePro pocket springs. Each of the individual springs has 10 active turns for more progressive support. Around the spring unit, Hypnos uses rich layers of 100% British wool that is fully traceable in terms of source, plus sustainably sourced cotton and a comfort layer of all-natural latex. The perimeter is reinforced with Triple Edge Protection and three rows of genuine hand side stitching, and the cover is an unbleached, naturally fire-retardant cotton fabric. This is handcrafted in the UK and carries a 20 year guarantee, unusually long for a mattress.
Firmness & Feel
The Bespoke Grandeur is available in medium, firm, or split tension. On the medium model I tested, the initial hand feel is plush at the surface thanks to the wool and latex, but it quickly firms up as your weight meets the 10-turn springs. I would call it a true medium, not a soft, with a gentle cradle at the shoulders and steadier pushback through the lumbar. Side sleeping felt comfortably cushioned after the first couple of nights, and for back sleeping the spine stays nicely aligned without that hammock sensation. The firm tension stiffens the upper third noticeably, which would be better for heavier builds or dedicated back sleepers.
Performance & Support
Pressure relief across the shoulders and hips is very good for a natural mattress. The wool layers compress in a controlled way, while the latex adds a touch of spring so you do not feel stuck. What stood out to me most, however, is the edge security. The hand side stitching and perimeter reinforcement keep you stable when sitting or sleeping near the edge, which effectively increases usable space on smaller sizes. Motion transfer is moderate, as you would expect from a traditional pocket spring with natural fibres. You will notice a partner turning, but the pocketed springs prevent it from rippling across the whole surface.
Temperature Regulation
If you run warm, the Grandeur plays to its strengths. The high wool content is breathable and good at moisture wicking, and the perforated, all-natural latex allows air to move rather than trapping heat. In my testing I stayed notably cooler than on many foam hybrids. This is a mattress I would happily use year round, with seasonal turning to keep the fillings fresh and responsive.
Practical Features
This is a proper two sided mattress, so it should be turned with the seasons and rotated regularly to minimise settlement. You get flag handles to help with manoeuvring, although its weight and depth mean turning is a two person job. As noted, the guarantee runs to 20 years, which underlines the traditional build and the brand’s confidence in its construction.
Value & Pricing Context
Here is the rub. As of late November 2025, I saw the double size listed with a strikethrough price of £3099 and a time-limited Black Friday price of £2099, with the promotion due to end on 1 December 2025. Even allowing for sales, you are firmly in luxury territory where the same outlay could buy three or four solid mid-market mattresses. The guarantee is excellent and materials are top tier, but the sticker shock will be a deal breaker for many households.
Who It Suits
Buy it if you want a traditional, natural mattress with longevity. The combination of traceable British wool, natural latex and hand side stitching gives this a refined, breathable feel that gets better after a short settling period. Edge support is superb and the choice of tensions, including split, makes it easy to dial in comfort for couples. If you value a long, 20 year safety net and plan to keep a mattress for well over a decade, the Grandeur makes sense.
Who It Does Not Suit
Skip it if you are value-driven or foam-focused. There are excellent pocket sprung and hybrid options at half or a third of the price that will suit most sleepers perfectly well. If you want that memory foam hug or near-silent motion isolation, this is not it. And if you are not prepared to flip and rotate a mattress a few times a year, a one sided alternative may be more practical.
Final Verdict
The Hypnos Bespoke Grandeur is a strong, traditional mattress built with premium natural materials and meticulous finishing. It sleeps cool, supports consistently to the edge, and offers the reassurance of a 20 year guarantee. For many buyers, the outlay will be hard to justify when the market is full of capable, lower-cost rivals. If, however, you are comfortable making a single, large purchase for the next 15 to 20 years and you want a British-made, turnable mattress with natural fillings, this is exactly the kind of product that rewards that investment.
