Why our sleep experts loved it
Little Star Pocket Sprung Kids' Mattress is a great mattress for your little one to grow and develop on. I had a proper look at this one in person and the first thing I did was run my hand over the cover, it feels smooth and practical rather than posh, which is kind of the point for a kids' bed. It's free of PVC, anti-allergy and hypoallergenic so it won't irritate sensitive skin. This kids' mattress is also water repellent so it's easy to wipe clean after any night-time accidents and it has a removable and washable cover, to keep it fresh for its lifetime.
Onto the support layers, the pocket springs offered within this mattress are of the same grade and quality as adult mattresses and as a result you can be sure that your child is getting the same great quality sleep as you. When I pressed down with my palm you can feel the springs pushing back individually rather than the whole surface moving as one, which is what you want if your kid wriggles about. Sitting on the edge, it did dip a bit, so if your little one perches on the side to put socks on, don't expect super firm edge support like you get on some adult hybrids. Also worth saying, pocket springs are great, but if your child is very light you might find it feels a touch 'bouncy' compared to a more foam-heavy kids mattress.
Reviews for the Little Star Pocket Sprung Kids Mattress are still waiting to come in as it's a brand new model at time of writing. You do get a comforting 1 year guarantee though, so any problems can be sorted via the retailer.
That 1 year guarantee is the bit I'd question, for a kids mattress that should be in use for years, I'd personally want longer for peace of mind. And while the wipe-clean and washable cover is a big win, it does mean you need to stay on top of washing and drying it, because if it's off the bed for a day you're back to relying on the water repellent layer alone.
