Today we're going to be taking a closer look at the Bamboo+ Memory 800 Pocket Mattress which is a new product from the popular Mlily brand which aims to address many of the most common desires people have surrounding material and offering when choosing their next mattress. Let's start with the brand, founded in 2003, Mlily has seen huge increases in demand that have driven their huge success. They are renowned in the industry for offering great value products at reasonable price points often with their primary selling point of memory foam proving to be a popular driver.

Let's start with that all important support layer. This support layer is where you get all the firmness your body needs to relax the muscles and bones in your back and neck and is what will leave you without soreness and pain when you wake up. As is typical with Mlily, they have opted for a pocket spring base which is our personal favourite thanks to its impressive body contouring and roll-together prevention. Pocket springs allow you to avoid disturbing your partner with every movement ensuring you both get a deeper nights sleep. The spring amount will often play a part in just how well the body contours and while 800 is on the lower end, you will still see better coverage than other materials utilised in this base layer (typically). The reason for the lower spring count is down to the better than expected price point available for this mattress with considerable material cost being dedicated to the upper comfort layer of foam.

Onto that comfort layer and we see Mlily's distinctive Bamboo Charcoal Memory Foam. It is important to stress that this is not your average memory foam. See, typical memory foam does all the wonderful things you expect with the pressure relief, the floating sensation and the instant response to touch and weight. However, it does have drawbacks surrounding heat retention that often causes users to sweat and interrupt their nights sleep, effecting REM and preventing the deep sleep we advocate. Fortunately Mlily have devised a  solution for this around Bamboo Charcoal Memory Foam which offers all the positives of traditional memory foam but with non of the downsides surrounding heat buildup. It really is a fantastic option that has been proven to work really well. The layer comes in a 2cm thickness which is perhaps a little on the low side, but then, these sort of specifications in higher quantities often double the price point.

Reviews for the mattress are strong with an impressively positive rating so far from customers. Feedback suggests people are happy with the compromises on spring count and memory depth and do not notice them with many talking about the extreme levels of comfort on offer and the great support offered against their back.

Reasons to Buy

A better variant of memory foam on offer that goes top considerable lengths to remove many of the heat retention issues often plaguing memory foam.

Pocket spring will always be my personal favourite support layer and is proven to work well in this specification.

Mlily are a brand that are well established in this space.

Fast delivery times and numerous sizes available.

Reasons to Avoid

Pocket spring count is lower than our normal tolerance of 1000 springs+, although reviewers of all weights and sizes do not seem to mind.

Memory foam depth is a little on the lower side but again, for this price point you are unlikely to find better.

How does it feel?

Key Performance Indicators
Of The Mlily Bamboo+ Memory 800 Pocket Mattress
Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews.

Key Performance Indicators

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the wizard above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

  • Breathability
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

  • Initial Odour
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Mlily Bamboo+ Memory 800 Pocket Mattress Great?

Temperature-regulating 3cm layer of bamboo charcoal memory foam

Bamboo charcoal memory keeps you cool and dry

Cushioning 2cm layer of flex comfort memory foam

Memory foam has properties that adapt shape of your body, immediately recovering its original shape once pressure is no longer applied. It adapts to your movements without sinking, ensuring that pressure is not produced, but without the wrapping feeling which would otherwise cause unnatural posture.

Responsive support with 1000 hi-low performance pocket springs

Pocket Springs are a great support layer. Available in a variety of firmness's, the quality of a spring system is generally determined by the spring count. With 1000 springs this mattress represents a good quality to cost ratio, providing enough springs to successfully contour to your body and provide you with a great nights sleep.

These springs adapt to your shape and weight for tailored sleep

A reinforced aero-flex foam border

A sturdy border means more space to sleep

Rated firm - more support where you need it

Firm Tension Support Mattresses are suited to those who prefer sleeping on their front and back. Typically sleeping on your back helps ensure the spine remains aligned throughout the night and is the most natural sleeping position that can prevent twisting and turning. A firm mattress ensures that a high level of support contours around your body, alleviating pressure across your entire frame in a more even manner than that of a soft mattress, most notably in the hips, neck and shoulders. Finally, if you are suffering from neck or back pain, a firm mattress can help alleviate these problems and result in a better and more relaxed sleep for many years to come.

Breathable, knitted cover

The mattress comes with breathable side vents that allow the mattress to remain cool while you sleep. Another benefit to being breathable is that you naturally sweat during the night and the cool and breathable nature means that your mattress will remain hygienic for many years to come.

Hypoallergenic for a fresher sleep

Allergy sufferers often experience the problem of waking up in the middle of the night or having to get up in the morning with a stuffy nose and eyes. The reason why you wake up with a stuffy nose is because your mattress has accumulated dust mites, mould and mildew, all of which are allergens. The solution is a hypoallergenic mattress is made from materials that do not support mould or dust mites. They also have anti-microbial properties that effectively kill any bacteria that may come into contact with it.

Single-sided, no need to turn

Save money and time on turning, as the comfort layer is just on one side. The mattress can be rotated to spread any wear that develops over time. This will increase the life span of the mattress and prevent indentations which could otherwise cause discomfort, back pain or poor-quality sleep.

Rolled up for easier delivery

The best way to get a rolled-up mattress into your home is with fast delivery. You'll have your new bed in just a few days, all the while knowing that you're buying from a company that cares about customer satisfaction.

Rolled mattresses are better for the environment

Rolled mattresses have a unique benefit in that they expand to the size of a normal mattress but are delivered rolled up. The benefit of rolled mattresses is that the retailer is able to offer significant discounts since there are savings in logistics, storage and delivery costs that can get passed to the consumer. As a result it is often cheaper to purchase an equivalent rolled mattress compared to its non rolled counterpart.

Depth: 26.5cm

5 year guarantee

A 5 year guarantee is quite rare in the industry and is a great indicator of the retailer beleiving in their product. Anything go wrong in the next 5 years, no drama, get it replaced.

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Reflex foam

Reflex foam is basically like memory foam without the memory part. Reflex foam is used more as a supportive layer than a comfort layer and is often used as an alternative to conventional spring systems.

Memory Foam

memory foam is one of the most well known materials used in the upper layer of mattresses. Memory foam basically contours to your entire body with moulding properties. Designed by NASA, this material rebounds to your touch and feels like you are floating on a cloud. Memory foam does not necesserily mean soft either, you can still have firm mattresses for those that want them with a bit of memory foam.

Knitted Cover

It is common in the industry to have a knitted cover, these covers can come in a variety of patterns but are typically hard wearing and do not present problems for consumers.

Reinforced mattress edge

One of the most common complaints in the industry is against mattresses with a weak mattress edge. It can often result in the user feeling like they are going to fall off the side of the bed and bed avoided. This mattress has a reinforced edge, something that helps ensure that particular scenario is avoided when you get close to a mattress edge while sleeping.

This product is unlikely to cause any sort of allergic reaction. Ideal if you suffer from any sort of allergy problems

Pressure Relief

One of the big complaints when settling into a new mattress is that it does not feel as comfortable as they hoped, where this mattress shines is in the enhanced pressure relief that it offers. Each part of your body exerts different amounts of pressure against the mattress and through the use of springs and foams, these products are able to offer significant pressure relief as a result across the entire body.

Rolled up mattresses are ideal for anyone looking at trying to get a mattress up a tight staircase or in a car to bring home from the shops. Do not missunderstand just how troublesome getting a mattress up stairs can be. Heavy and cumbersome, sometimes a rolled up mattress that expands to the side of a full mattress anyway, may be the better option

Firm mattresses are great for those looking for an extra bit of support, either because they have a higher BMI and leanm toward the heavier side, or because they have joint and muscle pain and appreciate a decent amount of support while they sleep. If you are not actively looking for a firm mattress it may be wise to consider something else from the range that is perhaps closer to the medium firmness rating

26.5cm deep

Single sided means only one side is comfy. Positives are you only need to rotate the mattress occassionaly rather than the more cumbersome rotate and flip. Downside is the lifespan of the product may suffer as a result, only marginal, but worth mentioning.

Fire Resistant

Fire resistant does not mean the product will never catch fire, rather, it will not go up in flames quite so quickly. Resistant to fire in the same way that I am resistant to kisses, sooner or later you end up giving in.

Cosy, pocket sprung memory foam mattress

Pocket springs are always my default go-to when it comes to recommendations surrounding support systems. See, pocket springs just do it better thanks to their individual and pocketed nature they are able to contour to your body better, reacting to each and every movement your body makes and allowing for full zoned support. Generally perform better than poorer reflex foam and open coil spring units.

Stay cool with 2cm Bamboo Charcoal Memory Foam

Memory foam is one of the most desirable and in demand comfort layers around, outperforming others when it comes to sheer desire. This foam was first developed with NASA and was first used for commercial applications shortly after. The soft and body moulding properties of this layer makes it very appealing to those looking for a weightless nights sleep. Be aware however that temperature regulation continues to be an issue with this layer, though there has been improvement in recent years with additional cooling solutions offered through select ranges.

Experience blissful sleep as the springs mould to your shape

Aero-Flex border support for maximised sleeping space

Rated medium for the perfect balance of support and comfort

Soft-to-touch cover

This product features a soft to touch cover that will prove to be both durable and hard wearing while also offering the amount of softness necessary to provide a luxurious nights sleep that pairs beautifully with the comfort and support layers within

Single-sided for easy care

23cm deep

23cm Or 9 inches is slightly larger than the industry standard 7 inches. Most offer a range between 10 to 14 inches and the higher the load, the deeper it needs to be. 9 Inches sits comfortably in the lower-middle weight range.

Customer Reviews For The Mlily Bamboo+ Memory 800 Pocket Mattress

Based on 26 reviews

So comfortably supportive everywhere that I have found it more comfortable without a pillow than any other bed I have had with a pillow. On my old mattress I was spending half the night in so much pain that I couldn't sleep, or waking in the morning hardly able to move and in pain. It's doing me a lot of good sleeping so much better. The way it's rolled into the packaging makes it easy to get through doorways and around corners into the room. The packaging itself is so good that I am intending to reuse it in some way rather than just throw it out.It comes with an additional envelope-style, good quality mattress protector.I can't say about longevity as I have only had it a few weeks.

My new Mlilly mattress is lovely. Very well made. Its deeper than usual but this I expected from the description on the website. Very impressed by the support it gives. Not hard like an ortho mattress. Comfy from day one. Comes vacuum packed. Easy to install .

Great quality, well made and so so comfortable. It is firm, which is perfect for me as I wanted the additional support, the memory foam though still let's you sink in. I'm very happy and I'm sure other customers will be too.

Delivery was quick, arrived in a bag "roll" which made transportation up the stairs easier. Quality of the materials high. Mattress is firm but to me liking.

This mattress is supportive and comfortable. I was looking for a firm mattress but with a comfortable top layer rather than being hard and this mattress is perfect.
