Millbrook Wool Luxury 5000 Pocket Mattress

Wool is a great option for the comfort layer of mattresses for a number of reasons. First, it is breathable enough to allow air to flow sufficiently to ensure great all-season long cooling that won't have you too hot, or too cold. Additional to this you have other advantages like durability, flexibility, flame and water resistance. Ultimately wool is a sustainable and renewable option that is environmentally friendly and supremely comfortable.

The benefits of a double sided mattress are that you get twice the surface area of comfort layers. The real-world practicality of this means that you flip the mattress as well as rotate allowing for better settlement of fillings which increases longevity, while reducing the chance of dipping or spring problems that may otherwise occur. Ultimately the mattress will likely last longer and remain comfortable for a greater duration.

Natural materials like wool, cashmere and silk are often used in higher quality mattresses. Their benefits are numerous with many preferring the supreme softness on offer while others appreciate the environmentally friendly offering. Another core benefit of natural layers is that they are extremely breathable and as a result create a safe, hygienic and temperature regulated nights sleep.

Edge support offers a sturdy border across all edges of the mattress and gives you the opportunity to sleep in more positions and fully spread out on the product, embracing each and every part of the mattress and not having to stick to the middle. This is because the edging is reinforced and gives you that feeling of stability and roll-off prevention while you sleep.

Hand side stitching is a true mark of quality found in the upper-quality segment of mattresses. The process is very labor intensive as it involves attaching the side panel of the mattress to the pocket spring support layer found within a mattress helping to give better edge support and preventing roll-off.

Some people do not like the use of chemicals on the products they use. This has always proved somewhat tricky for fire resistance but in this instance the manufacturer has been able to assure fire resistance through alternative methods that still prove effective.

Soft support mattresses allow you to sink further into your mattress. This tension is ideal for those that sleep on their side or are looking specifically for a softer support than normal. Great for those who like to be hugged by their mattress.

A mattress with handles can be a great way to make it easier to flip your mattress. This can be especially helpful if you have a heavy mattress or if you live in a small space where flipping your mattress would be difficult.

This feature adapts to the body's contours, ensuring targeted comfort and pressure relief throughout sleep. It enhances the sleep experience by reducing strain on sensitive areas and promoting spinal alignment.

Millbrook credits the cotton blend with freshness. Cotton absorbs moisture and allows air through, which Millbrook says helps reduce clamminess, without establishing that the whole mattress sleeps cool.

Meets BS7177: 2008 for domestic low hazard use. Testing covers resistance to a smouldering cigarette and a small flame the size of a match flame, not suitability for hotels or care homes.

Wool and cotton fillings sit between the core and cover, per the listing, with tufting stitches holding them in place, and wool breathes well, which helps if you sleep warm.

Fabric pockets surround individual springs, allowing each to move under pressure without pulling directly on its neighbours. These form the support system, per the listing.

Extra support around the mattress perimeter is meant to stop the sides compressing as much when you sit on the edge or lie close to it; try the edge in person if you can.

Soft to medium is the advertised rating. This indicates more sink than firmer beds, offering a starting point for lighter people and those sleeping on their sides.

UK handcrafting is the maker's own claim, while National Bed Federation approval is a membership scheme auditing fire safety, clean fillings and honest labelling.

Handles offer a grip for repositioning. Follow the handling instructions, as these turning handles are not necessarily designed to carry the item's full weight.

National Bed Federation approval means the maker belongs to a scheme audited on fire safety, clean fillings and honest labelling, not comfort or firmness.

Each spring has its own fabric wrapping and compresses independently, a construction billed as reducing movement compared with springs wired together.

The cover offers a luxurious, soft-touch experience that enhances comfort. Its elegant design adds a touch of sophistication to any bedroom setting.

Handmade UK construction is the brand's claim. The amount of handwork differs between makers, so assess the materials alongside the handmade label.

Measuring 32cm deep (about 12.6 inches), the mattress adds substantial height above the base, so consider the combined height when choosing a bed.

A ten-year manufacturer warranty is included. Keep your receipt for any claim and check the retailer's warranty terms to see what is covered.

Double-sided construction provides two usable sleeping surfaces, allowing flipping to spread wear, though the sides may not feel identical.

Sold as fire resistant, not fireproof, with no test standard or testing conditions specified, so keep it away from flames and heat sources.

Wool is a natural fibre used in fillings or upholstery that can absorb and release moisture; its quantity and position remain unspecified.

Threads passed through the depth secure filling layers and create small surface dips in what Millbrook calls its hand-tufted construction.

For mattresses, 32cm (about 12.6 inches) affects sheet depth and bed height. On frames, confirm the measured part using full dimensions.

UK handcrafting is the brand's own description, and the share done by hand differs between makers, so weigh the materials alongside it.

Warranty cover lasts ten years, with the retailer's terms setting out covered faults, costs, exclusions and the claims process.

Vent openings let air move into and out of the mattress or bed structure, allowing moisture within enclosed spaces to escape.

Millbrook rates the firmness as medium, placing it midway between softer and firmer options within the brand's own range.

Cotton is a natural fibre used in fillings or fabrics that absorbs moisture and lets air pass through.

Sold as soft to medium, this firmness rating sits between those two points on the brand's scale.

Side panel air vents let air move into and out of the fillings.
