Tests & Verdict

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and 12+ years of industry insight.

Many customers who have purchased a mattress have reported a high level of satisfaction with their purchase. One common aspect that customers appreciate is the comfort level of the mattress. Many customers report that the mattress provides a high level of support and conforms well to the contours of the body. This helps to alleviate pressure points and provides a comfortable sleep experience throughout the night.

Another aspect that customers appreciate is the quality of the materials used to construct the mattress. Many customers have reported that the materials used are of high quality, durable, and long-lasting. This helps to ensure that the mattress retains its shape and support for a long period of time, even with regular use.

Customers also appreciate the versatility of the mattress. Many models are designed to accommodate a wide range of sleeping positions, making it an ideal choice for individuals who sleep in different positions. The mattress is also designed to minimise motion transfer, which means that movement on one side of the bed is not felt by the other person on the other side.

Based on the reviews provided, there are several common themes that people did not like about the mattresses they purchased. These include issues with the quality of the mattress, disappointment with the level of comfort, and concerns about the firmness or thickness of the mattress. Some customers also noted that the mattress was not as advertised, or that it did not meet their expectations based on the price they paid. However, many customers were satisfied with the quality, comfort, and value of their mattresses, especially for children or as part of a bunk bed set. Overall, the most common complaints were related to expectations not being met in terms of quality or comfort.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour

I am over the moon with the children's new bunk bed and mattresses (and so are they!) I had been thinking about moving the children from a toddler bed to a single bed for a while to help them sleep through the night... and fingers crossed it's working! I don't know if it's the new big bed or the comfy mattress but whatever the reason, I am one happy Mama thanks to Happy Beds! The bed took my husband 5 hours to build (however, I wouldn't call him Mr DIY so for someone who is used to a screwdriver I'm sure it would be a lot faster!) However, he did say the instructions were easy to follow, the wood quality was great and when fitted together it is very sturdy. I loved that you could choose your delivery date to suit you and then received a phone call in the morning giving you a 3 hour window. The delivery guys were friendly and helpful and brought all the boxes upstairs to the bedroom for me. Overall I am extremely pleased with the bunk bed and the service provided.

Really happy with the mattress too - I was about to get the bunk mattress from John Lewis until I read their reviews about it being quite flimsy etc. So I found Happy Beds' Theo. Unlike JL's open spring mattress, for the same price Theo is pocket sprung. Theo also weighs a 5 kilos more than the John Lewis and you can really tell in the quality. It feels really comfortable and sturdy. Highly recommended!

In reality, not that much slimmer than a standard mattress but does matter with respect to bunk beds. Very well put together and comfortable; in retrospect should have just bought two of these for both the top and bottom bunk as the extra inch or so of clearance for the bottom bunk makes a difference.

Quite disappointed with the firmness, as it stated the mattress was suitable for up to 10 stone and as I sat on it weighing 9st I could feel the lats on the bed. However the mattress was for my 3 year old so will put us on for a short while. Could have got a similar mattress much cheaper.

Would definitely recommend this company. The price was good, delivery on time as per the order and the build quality seems good so far (only been a month so far). The pocket sprung mattress that was purchased is also comfortable even at the low price.

We purchased a day bed with trundle- it was very easy to assemble and looked/ felt great. Only slight draw back was that the delivery was slightly later than we had expected. Didn't impact overall feeling so 5 stars :-). Thanks very much.

The mattress is comfortable but is rough even through a sheet. I will have to get a mattress cover and then it should be ok.
