Becky's Thoughts On The Slumberland Amari Ortho Comfort Mattress

A mattress should be a big decision. It's one of the most important purchases you make and since you spend 1/3 of your life on it, it's important to get this right. The Slumberland Amari Ortho Comfort Mattress is a likely contender worthy of your attention and over the next few paragraphs, you’ll understand why.

For those that don’t know, Slumberland is one of the biggest names in the industry, having operated successfully for over a century, first establishing themselves in 1919 and producing luxurious and high demand products ever since.

The comfort layer in the Slumberland Amari Ortho Comfort Mattress is one made of deep and luxurious fillings. These fillings allow you to easily sink into the mattress while also featuring breathable materials in order to ensure that you won’t get too hot at night while you sleep.

Onto the support layer and you get an impressive 1000 pocket springs of fantastic quality that are both durable and long lasting. These springs are what contours to your body and ensures each and every inch of you is protected while you sleep, helping to prevent aches and pains while remaining both comfortable and supportive. The tension of these springs is rated as medium which is fortunate as it’s the ideal firmness necessary to command a good sleep for the vast majority of people. Personally, I always tend to recommend medium firmness provided you are of average build regardless of whether you are a side sleeper or back sleeper.

Additional to the firmness of the mattress it is also rated as featuring orthopaedic support, making it ideal for back sleepers who are looking for help improving their sleep and preventing any neck and back pain.

With a BSI Kitemark accreditation across the entire line you are able to place further confidence in the product thanks to its strong British heritage and manufacturing.

What Makes The Slumberland Amari Ortho Comfort Mattress Great?

Made in Britain

These are made and manufactured in the Great Britain, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine Great Britain manufacturing.

5-year guarantee

This is an exceptional guarantee that is fairly uncommon within the industry, this shows that the retailer and supplier both have huge confidence in the product that they are selling. Any problems in the first 5 years? Call them and they will sort it.

Mattress height: 26cm

26cm is fairly deep for a mattress and comes with enough depth to feature many good quality components and comfort layers necessary to get a good nights sleep

Individually encased pocket springs for support and individual comfort to ensure no roll together

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer.

Available in sizes: Single, Small Double, Double, King and Super King

This mattress is not available in custom sizes, caravan sizes or ikea sizes. Instead, this mattress is available in the universally common mattress sizes to suit most people, my preference is a king size, big enough to starfish in while being small enough to fit in most rooms comfortably.

BSI - British Standard Kitemark™ accreditated

The British Standard Kitemark is a standard produced by the BSI Group which is incorporated under a royal charter for safety, relaibility and conformity with British expectations and standards.

Total 1000 pocket springs for premium comfort and support

Pocket springs are a great support layer. Available in a variety of firmness's, the quality of a spring system is generally determined by the spring count. With 1000 springs this mattress represents a good quality to cost ratio, providing enough springs to successfully contour to your body and provide you with a great nights sleep.

Upholstered in the finest Belgian damask fabric for a superb feel

Frames can come in numerous different materials, and designs. This one in particular comes with fabric upholstered in a modern design that is sure to leave guests envious of it's fantastic style and comfort.

Deep quality luxury fillings for excellent durability and resilience

With the average life expectancy of a mattress pegged at around 7 years,  it can be extremely important to make sure that you get a product that is both durable and resilient. These mattresses come with plenty of deep and luxurious fillings that may mean that the mattress is a little deeper than you may be accustomed to.

Double sided - Flip and turn regularly to prolong mattress

A double sided mattress is one that comes with comfort layers on both sides. The benefit of this for the customer is that you get twice the surface area through a series of rotation and flipping that should become second nature to you as part of the recommended mattress care guidelines. A mattress that can be flipped means you get better settlement of springs and fillings over time which may also prevent dipping over the long term.

Firmness rating: Medium

A medium tension mattress is largely suitable for most people of average BMI. Not too soft, nor too firm this mattress has enough softness in the tension to allow you to sink, while providing enough support to contour to your body.

Orthopaedic for added support

Traditionally hand tufted pocket sprung mattress for extra durability

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer.

I've only had this mattress about 3 weeks so don't feel I can give 5 stars yet - I may update in 6 months. It has improved in comfort significantly from the first week. The comfort rating is what I would rate it now, not what I would have given if I had reviewed this after the first night. Plus points: - double sided so hopefully it will last longer than my last mattress. Most of the other mattresses available were single sided. - light enough for me to turn and flip on my own (there was no point in it being double-sided if it was too heavy for me to lift). As a middle-aged 5ft2in woman this was the main reason I choose this mattress over others. I recommend going into a store and trying to lift mattresses if this is important to you as a lot of other mattresses were very heavy. - pocket sprung and no memory foam - a plus point if you don't like overheating in the summer. - reasonable price Negative points: - you can't sit on the edge of the mattress - this isn't very important to me, but might be important to others. It's fine for getting into and out of bed, but the edges do not have extra support like some mattresses and sink when you sit on them. - breaking in the mattress to achieve a comfortable sleep took around 2 weeks (although I may be breaking it in for a while yet as I still have some rotating and turning to do). The first few days were very uncomfortable, so much so, that I was regretting my decision. However, I had been warned that mattresses can take a while to break in, and had the 40 day trial to fall back on if necessary, so I persevered. Initially the padding feels very pronounced and solid - more like a very firm mattress than a medium. I also thought I could feel the 'tufts' as small hard lumps. I did not sleep well on it the first couple of nights and had back ache, so I looked up some ways of speeding up the 'breaking in' process. I crawled around on it several times a day and resisted getting a topper (which slows down the breaking in process), although I did sleep on top of a doubled up duvet a couple of times in the first week. I'm happy to say that, 3 weeks on, I'm sleeping well, have no back ache and I'm not noticing the tufts anymore. I don't feel like I would need a topper now and would say the mattress is medium/firm at the moment. The area where I'm sleeping is softer than other areas of the mattress, so I think it probably will be a medium as advertised once it is fully broken in. Overall, I am happy I bought this mattress - just be warned that the breaking-in process means you may be in for some uncomfortable nights to begin with. It wouldn't be suitable if you like to use the edge of your mattress as a place to sit.

The sale price meant that we could buy a really good quality mattress; it was very good value. The assistant in store (Tommy) seemed very knowledgeable and friendly; he explained all about the different types of mattress to ensure we bought one suitable for our needs.
