Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

Let’s face it, there are very few things more important than a good night’s sleep. After all, how can you possibly perform at your best during the day if you haven’t had enough rest overnight? In this fast-paced world where stress is on the rise and our hectic schedules only seem to be getting worse, it can be hard to find time for sleep. But with one little change in your bedroom habits, you can get back on track and have that restorative slumber once again. The Silentnight Sleep Vitality Vibrance mattress is designed with comfort and support in mind to help optimize your sleeping experience. It features a medium firmness level as well as dual layered pocket springs in both full and micro form that makes it breathable and supportive at the same time. Read on to find out what we loved, and what we didn’t.

Who is the mattress suitable for?

The Silentnight Sleep Vitality Vibrance Mattress is new to the range and an exclusive product sold by Bensons for Beds. The combination of the two heavyweights in the industry should be cause for calm as both are well established at understanding customers needs when it comes to a good mattress. In the case of the Vitality Vibrance, the first thing we are looking at is the support layer which is housed at the base of this single sided mattress.

This support layer is made from high quality pocket springs of impressive quantities in the form of 2000 mirapocket springs and a further 1450 micro pocket springs that will sit above. When we talk about pocket springs we often allude to their better quality and full body contouring offered. That’s not all however, pocket springs are also fantastic when it comes to preventing roll together and providing good edge support. The result of all of this is that pocket spring mattresses give greater surface area with which to stretch out as there is less risk of rolling out of the bed or into your partner, in turn increasing durability and lifespan. We’re big fans of this particular layer and the added micro springs that sit on top aid further by increasing the amount of body contouring and resistance offered in the springs which will now respond to every micro movement that your body makes as you sleep, supporting you along the way.

Onto the comfort layer and the Sleep Vitality Vibrance Mattress has a deep layer of latex for comfort. This works particularly good for people as it has many of the same benefits as memory foam in terms of comfort and sinkage, but without the negatives surrounding heat retention and build up. What this means is that the Vibrance will have you sleeping deeper and for longer with that popular latex layer.

Finally, how does the support layer and comfort layer combine to give a degree of firmness and support? Well, when paired together and with moderate wound springs, the Vibrance comes in at a healthy medium tension. This medium tension will prove ideal and suitable for the vast majority of people. Since the tension is not too firm it should suit many averagely-weighted side sleepers while still offering enough body contouring and pressure for back and stomach sleepers who like a bit of extra support while they sleep. The result is a one-size-fits-all approach that largely does what it says. There are exceptions to mass-suitability that we will go into shortly but we find the combination of materials utilized here to perform really well and leave the average sleeper enjoying a deeper and more relaxing night's sleep.

Finally, another segment who will benefit from this combination are warm sleepers who get too hot at night as the latex has naturally cooling properties that react well with the breathable pocket springs to provide for a more hygienic and cooler nights sleep.

Who is the mattress not suitable for?

So we covered above who will love the mattress, but who might find this product unsuitable? It’s a fairly small window thankfully since the medium tension and good quality support layer both cover the majority of bases when it comes to shopping online for a mattress. That said, we have managed to pick out a few.

Firstly, there’s the budget crowd. This product is aimed at the premium segment and is priced accordingly and while it is worth the money, it will also alienate many in the market that are looking to spend less. Fortunately there are many other Silentnight products in the range at a slightly lower footing that still make use of pocket springs, albeit in a lower density.

Secondly, there’s those who need extra support. The medium tension does a great job for the average person, but if you require additional support of the orthopedic variety then you may want to consider the firm option also listed on the retailers site as this one has a firmer feel that is more rigid and board-like, giving better support where people need it, in the back and neck. Side sleepers should be wary of the firmer option as this will be equally unsuitable for those as there is not enough sinkage to accommodate.

Where in the market does the mattress compete?

The Sleep Vitality Vibrance Mattress fits squarely in the premium price band as does its quality, both in support and comfort. The mattress is at the top end of any scale on which it is judged and it is one of the best mattresses available in the Silentnight range regardless of the retailer you choose.

What is the level of firmness experienced as a scale of 1 to 10?

Since there are two different variants of this mattress it is difficult to judge the scale of firmness as they are both different. However, we tried the firm variant in store and judged it to be an 8 which is firm, but not extra firm which means those without orthopedic needs could still find comfort in this type of tension if they happen to prefer additional support. When it comes to the medium tension we would rate it a 6 as it tends to be ever so slightly firmer than competing rivals, in part due to the rigid and high quality pocket spring system. These numbered ratings may go down through use as the pocket springs begin to loosen up through usage, as such we would recommend up to 4 weeks to realize the true comfort found in this product.

How does it feel?

Reasons to Buy

Highest quality Silentnight mattress we have come across. The manufacturer seems to be focussing toward a more premium line-up for 2022, rewarding those who have the finances to be able to accomodate.

All popular sizes available, although most are on a fairly long lead time that will require planning.

Pocket springs perform really well, particularly with the micro pocket springs on top.

Reasons to Avoid

Still to early for any long term reviews, however, we have seen this combination before with great success. Both the retailer and manufacturer can be trusted in this space with decades of experience behind both of them.

Lead time will require planning ahead.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

What Makes The Silentnight Sleep Vitality Vibrance Mattress Great?

A combined total of 3450 pocket springs and micro pocket springs, comprising of:

Pocket springs are a type of mattress spring that is individually wrapped in its own fabric pocket. This allows each spring to move independently from the others, providing more targeted support and pressure relief. Pocket springs also tend to be more durable than other types of mattress springs, making them a good choice for people who are looking for a long-lasting mattress.

2000 Mirapocket springs – zoned, edge-to-edge support, tailored to your body

Pocket springs are a type of mattress spring that is individually wrapped in its own fabric pocket. This allows each spring to move independently from the others, providing more targeted support and pressure relief. Pocket springs also tend to be more durable than other types of mattress springs, making them a good choice for people who are looking for a long-lasting mattress.

1450 micro pocket springs - for responsive, adaptive surface comfort and breathability

Pocket springs are a type of spring system that is used in mattresses and upholstered furniture. They are often considered to be a step up from traditional coil springs, as they provide a number of advantages in terms of comfort, support, and durability with the main benefits of pocket springs being that they offer superior levels of support. This is because each spring is individually encased in its own fabric pocket, meaning that it is able to move independently of the others. This allows the springs to contour to your body more effectively, providing targeted support where you need it most.

Luxuriously soft, breathable stretch knit cover – partners perfectly with the luxury fillings for opulent comfort

Knitted covers offer a good degree of breathability that helps keep the mattress cool while you sleep, particularly important for hygiene but also great for keeping you cool.

Innovative Intense™ technology sleep surface – lowers stress induced cortisol levels for a deeper sleep

Unique to Silentnight, this new sleep surface weaves carbon into the fabrics of the upper cover, reducing static electricity which can often lead to increased levels of Cortisol. The Carbon layer of Intense™ technology helps counteract this allowing the production of more Melatonin and allowing you to have a great nights sleep.

Luxurious latex comfort – adapts to your unique shape and movements, for soothing pressure relief and to help ease aches & pains

Latex is the best of both worlds when it is used as a comfort layer in mattresses. First, it has many of the great body moulding properties of memory foam with great softness that appeals to those with a desire to achieve that "floating" feeling associated with foam. The main benefit however is in traditional memory foams failings in heat buildup, see latex doesn't have you getting so hot making it a much better option for those who need an all season product.

2 comfort ratings – choose from medium or firm to suit your sleeping style

This mattress is available in the two most popular tensions of medium and firm. Consider the medium tension if you sleep more on your side or are a combination sleeper, while primary back sleepers, or, those with a higher BMI, should consider the firmer offering.

Hand tufted – for a supportive feel and to secure the mattress fillings

Hand tufting is a great way to ensure there is reduced movement within the mattress itself. Keeping the fillings where they should be is what ensures even settlement and no lumps. The tufting process can make the mattress feel slightly firmer, but this is baked into the firmness rating already and so you can rest easy, knowing you are getting a product with enhanced durability through secure tufts.

Easy Care – No turn mattress

A no turn mattress basically means that it is one sided and does not require flipping over. There are pros and cons to this depending on your circumstance. First, the pros are that there is far less maintenance and hassle as you do not have to flip every few months, this can be more of a pain than you think given the weight of the product and also whether or not it features turning handles. There are a few cons however, namely when it comes to wear and tear. A non-flip mattress has the comfort layer on the top and so your maximum surface area is halved over a double sided mattress which can increase wear and reduce lifespan. Nowadays quality standards prevent this from being too much of an issue and expected lifespan of a one-sided mattress is still a fairly long time.

Reassuring quality - handcrafted in the UK by Silentnight, exclusively for Bensons for Beds

Silentnight is a staple of the mattress industry, offering its services through numerous bedding products for decades. Silentnight is most well known for its mattress range, expanding with a focus toward eco friendly materials and increased sustainability in recent years.

10 Year Guarantee – For total peace of mind

A 10 year guarantee goes far beyond industry norms and gives additional confidence in the product. Industry standards typically see the mandatory minimum 1 year being the most common with 5 year being rarer and 10 years being particularly uncommon, especially since the average mattress is replaced after 7 years.
