Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

Do you toss and turn all night long? Do you wake up with aches and pains in the morning? Perhaps you struggle to get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis? You’re not alone -- almost everyone struggles to get enough sleep at some point or another. But getting high-quality, restful sleep is important for your health in many ways. It helps your body repair itself after a long day, as well as keeping your mind clear and alert. If you’re having issues getting enough shut-eye, it might be time to upgrade your mattress and with the orthopaedic-like firm feel of the Silentnight Sleep Vitality Boost Mattress, you might get exactly what you need. Let’s dive into the specifics of the mattress and see whether it will prove to be suitable for you.

Let’s start with the manufacturer. Silentnight is an established mattress manufacturer that has been manufacturing mattresses for nearly a century, first starting in 1946 and being renowned for their great quality to price proposition. The brand enjoys high regard, evidenced by the vast array of mattresses in its range that have been voted ‘Best Buy’ several times by Which? Readers in the past.

Onto the mattress itself and let’s work from the bottom upward, starting with the base layer. The base layer  in the Sleep Vitality Boost is a mirapocket spring solution. This is a cracking start as it outperforms the miracoil equivalents for its strong body contouring and improved posture support. The base layer comes in a firmer tension that makes it more suitable for back sleepers over side sleepers, as such this mattress will suit those looking for enhanced back and neck support. Next up is the comfort layers and Silentnight have opted for a deep latex comfort layer which is one of our more preferable layers. The main benefits to latex are around its body moulding properties, effectively mimicking everything we all know and love about memory foam. The comparisons stop there however as the latex layer has none of the common pitfalls of memory foam, instead maximising breath-ability and ensuring you get a hygienic and cooling nights sleep that is ideal for all seasons.

So who exactly will this mattress not suit? The price point is reasonable if potentially a little out of many peoples budget so those with less to spend may find the Sleep Vitality Boost unsuitable in that regard. Beyond that though, its fairly smooth sailing for purchasers as the latex top layer and pocket springs work really well to create a breathable all season experience with a great premium quality feel. The firmer tension may prove a bit too stiff for side sleepers of an average body mass, however, the latex comfort above might allow just enough sinkage to account for moderate and occasional combination sleeping.

Onto where this mattress competes and we would have this competing firmly in the mid-range to premium arena, punching slightly above its price point for good quality materials since we really do like the mirapocket base and latex comfort.

Customer feedback is still coming in on this particular model since it is so new, however, this combination is a fairly typical offering from the manufacturer and one that we have seen with huge success in the past. This one comes loaded with a deeper layer of latex than other models but as a general combination, customers love it with feedback generally speaking positively about the amount of good zonal support found in Mirapocket base layers combined with the sinking and memory like properties of good quality latex.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

What Makes The Silentnight Sleep Vitality Boost Mattress Great?

A combined total of 2350 pocket springs and mini pocket springs, comprising of:

Pocket springs are a type of spring system that is used in mattresses and upholstered furniture. They are often considered to be a step up from traditional coil springs, as they provide a number of advantages in terms of comfort, support, and durability with the main benefits of pocket springs being that they offer superior levels of support.

1350 Mirapocket springs – zoned, edge-to-edge support, tailored to your body

Pocket springs are a type of spring system that is used in mattresses and upholstered furniture. They are often considered to be a step up from traditional coil springs, as they provide a number of advantages in terms of comfort, support, and durability with the main benefits of pocket springs being that they offer superior levels of support.

1000 mini pocket springs - for responsive, adaptive surface comfort and breathability

Pocket springs are a type of spring system that is used in mattresses and upholstered furniture. They are often considered to be a step up from traditional coil springs, as they provide a number of advantages in terms of comfort, support, and durability with the main benefits of pocket springs being that they offer superior levels of support.

Luxuriously soft, breathable stretch knit cover – partners perfectly with the luxury fillings for opulent comfort

Knitted covers offer a good degree of breathability that helps keep the mattress cool while you sleep, particularly important for hygiene but also great for keeping you cool.

Innovative Intense™ technology sleep surface – lowers stress induced cortisol levels for a deeper sleep

Unique to Silentnight, this new sleep surface weaves carbon into the fabrics of the upper cover, reducing static electricity which can often lead to increased levels of Cortisol. The Carbon layer of Intense™ technology helps counteract this allowing the production of more Melatonin and allowing you to have a great nights sleep.

Luxurious latex comfort – adapts to your unique shape and movements, for soothing pressure relief and to help ease aches & pains

Latex is the best of both worlds when it is used as a comfort layer in mattresses. First, it has many of the great body moulding properties of memory foam with great softness that appeals to those with a desire to achieve that "floating" feeling associated with foam. The main benefit however is in traditional memory foams failings in heat buildup, see latex doesn't have you getting so hot making it a much better option for those who need an all season product.

Firm comfort rating – ideal for those looking for added support

A firm comfort rating is ideal for back sleepers who value more push-back from their base layer. The result is a resistive support that suits average BMI or heavier with a view to improve or alleviate back and neck pain. Side sleepers might find this tension to be too firm for the hip and shoulder to sink sufficiently.

Hand tufted – for a supportive feel and to secure the mattress fillings

Hand tufting is a great way to ensure there is reduced movement within the mattress itself. Keeping the fillings where they should be is what ensures even settlement and no lumps. The tufting process can make the mattress feel slightly firmer, but this is baked into the firmness rating already and so you can rest easy, knowing you are getting a product with enhanced durability through secure tufts.

Easy Care – No turn mattress

A no turn mattress basically means that it is one sided and does not require flipping over. There are pros and cons to this depending on your circumstance. First, the pros are that there is far less maintenance and hassle as you do not have to flip every few months, this can be more of a pain than you think given the weight of the product and also whether or not it features turning handles. There are a few cons however, namely when it comes to wear and tear. A non-flip mattress has the comfort layer on the top and so your maximum surface area is halved over a double sided mattress which can increase wear and reduce lifespan. Nowadays quality standards prevent this from being too much of an issue and expected lifespan of a one-sided mattress is still a fairly long time.

Reassuring quality - handcrafted in the UK by Silentnight, exclusively for Bensons for Beds

Silentnight is a staple of the mattress industry, offering its services through numerous bedding products for decades. Silentnight is most well known for its mattress range, expanding with a focus toward eco friendly materials and increased sustainability in recent years.

10 Year Guarantee – For total peace of mind

A 10 year guarantee goes far beyond industry norms and gives additional confidence in the product. Industry standards typically see the mandatory minimum 1 year being the most common with 5 year being rarer and 10 years being particularly uncommon, especially since the average mattress is replaced after 7 years.
