For those who don’t know, the brand is a British luxury bedding manufacturer that has been providing quality products for over 160 years. Their products are known for their superior comfort and support, and the Classic Natural Supreme 1390 Pocket Mattress is no exception. This luxurious product is designed for optimum comfort and support, and is sure to provide a restful night's sleep primarily for those of average to lower body mass and particularly those who sleep on their side.

The Natural Supreme 1390 Pocket Mattress is part of Relyon's Natural collection, a range of products that feature wool as their primary comfort layer. This collection also features individually pocketed springs that are nested within the support layer and are of particularly high quality, outperforming other base layers. The mattress also features wool comfort fillings, which provide a luxurious and sumptuous sleeping surface. Let’s dive into the specifics of what makes this product great, starting with the base layer and moving onto the comfort layer.

Pocket Spring Base

Pocket spring base materials are some of the most comfortable and supportive base layers on the market. The individual pocketed springs allow for superior body contouring, reducing pressure points and providing superior support. The springs are also designed to move independently, allowing for a personalised sleeping experience which will outperform open coil and reflex foam. In addition to superior comfort and support, pocket spring mattresses are also highly durable. The individual pocketed springs help to extend the life of the product by preventing sagging and other issues that can occur with standard mattresses.

Most of the tension in a product like this comes from that base layer which is perfect for those who prefer a softer mattress, but still need good quality support.

Natural Wool Fillings

The Classic Natural Supreme 1390 Pocket Mattress features wool comfort fillings, which provide a luxurious and sumptuous sleeping surface. The wool comfort fillings are designed to be highly breathable, helping to keep you cool and comfortable. The wool comfort fillings are also designed to be hypoallergenic, reducing the risk of allergies and other skin sensitivities. The wool is also designed to be highly durable, ensuring that your product will last for years to come.

Why Choose Relyon?

The company has been providing quality products for over 160 years, and their products are designed to provide a restful night's sleep. Reasons to Buy

The soft tension will suit side sleepers more than back sleepers but those who do sleep mixed will typically find enough support in the pocket springs.

The wool breathable layer is a great way to keep cool while you sleep.

Reasonable price point given the high quality and prestige of the manufacturer.

Reasons to Avoid

Soft tension mattresses are best avoided by those who sleep predominantly on their back or are heavier than average as both typically require more support in the springs.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

  • Breathability
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

  • Initial Odour
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Relyon Classic Natural Supreme 1390 Pocket Mattress Great?

Delivered rolled up for speedy delivery and a lower carbon footprint

Rolled mattresses are delivered in a smaller airtight mode of shipping that saves retailers on shipping, storage and logistics costs that mean they can pass the savings onto consumers in the form of lower prices. The result means that you can often get a similarly specification mattress for less in rolled form which is fantastic news for those on a budget. With very little downside and positive experiences across the industry, there's plenty of great reasons to make your next mattress a rolled bed-in-a-box product.

1390 individual pocket springs provide complete body support

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer. When it comes to pocket springs and the quality within, the more springs generally the better as the density will increase contouring ever-closer to your body as you sleep.

Pocket springs support you where you need it most

Pocket springs are of considerable better quality than their poorer traditional open coil counterparts. Put simply, pocket spring contours better and supports better than other base layers. When it comes to pocket spring mattresses, the general rule of thumb is that the more springs the better. There are exceptions, of course, but for the best part this is likely to be a good quality mattress based on it's base layer.

Wool helps keep you warmer in winter and cooler in summer

Wool is a great option for the comfort layer of mattresses for a number of reasons. First, it is breathable enough to allow air to flow sufficiently to ensure great all-season long cooling that won't have you too hot, or too cold. Additional to this you have other advantages like durability, flexibility, flame and water resistance. Ultimately wool is a sustainable and renewable option that is environmentally friendly and supremely comfortable.

Medium-soft - perfect if you prefer more gentle support

Soft to medium support relates to the tension of the mattress. Soft to Medium is likely to be suitable for a wide selection of people that are looking for something a little bit softer but still having enough firmness to give your body even contoured support. Also makes for an ideal mattress tension for side sleepers.

Smooth-touch damask cover

A damask cover has a pattern of small, repeated designs. These small designs are usually made from blocks of color. A damask cover can be made from many different types of fabric, such as cotton, satin and silk. The patterns on the damask covers can be simple or elaborate. The patterns can be made up of one color or a variety of colors. The name “damask” comes from the city of Damascus in Syria. The first damasks were woven in this city.

Hydrofresh microclimate control provides enhanced freshness

This system is designed to create a comfortable, healthy environment for you to sleep in, and has been shown to improve sleep quality and overall health. The microclimate means that you won't be too hot, nor too cold while you sleep which means you sleep deeper and for longer, with less tossing and turning.

Expertly hand-tufted with woollen tufts to lock in the plush fillings

Hand Tufting is a labor intensive process that involves securing the fittings to a mattress rather than having them operate independently and loose within. This small act not only secures, but also leads to the mattress lasting longer and feeling firmer. A hand-tufted mattress is great for anyone looking for additional stability while they sleep.

Two rows of side-stitching ensure a more robust mattress border

Side stitching is really important as it prevents bulging of the side walls on pocket sprung mattresses. The side stitching is a process whereby the stitching on the edging of the mattress is attached to the outer springs and supporting bar within.

No need to turn - single-sided for easier care

A single sided mattress is typical for the industry and relates to how  a mattress has the comfort layer on one side of the mattress. only This means that the mattress only needs to be rotated rather than flipped. The benefit of single sided mattresses is that they require less upkeep in that there's no flipping, but also, there's less components involved in the creation which saves costs.

Simply rotate regularly from end-to-end

It is import to rotate your mattress because it helps ensure even settlement of fillings and ensure even distribution is maintained. Further to this it also means that more than one area of the mattress is used equally, increasing longevity and lifespan as part of typical mattress care.

Easy to keep in great condition - simply rotate regularly

Depth: 24cm

Most experts recommend a minimum 10 inches, 4 inches on the top layer and 6 inches for the core so this size is an ideal balance of size and performance. Generally, the heavier the load the deeper the mattress should be.

5 year guarantee

A 5 year guarantee is quite rare in the industry and is a great indicator of the retailer beleiving in their product. Anything go wrong in the next 5 years, no drama, get it replaced.

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Luxury wool, typically found in mattresses in a shredded and felted capacity is an upholstery fibre often used as a top comfort layer, but sometimes found further down in those mattress layers as part of the support structure

The luxurious natural fibre silk offers enhanced comfort, moisture control and helps to regulate body temperature.  It can reduce heat in the summer and provide warmth in winter.

Damask cover

Damask is a fabric, woven in nature that is often used to upholster mattresses. It is typically made from linen or cotton and can typically be woven into delivate detailings required by the supplier. The fabrics are typically fairly hard wearing and should not cause problems

Soft to Medium

A Medium firmness mattress is the most common build offered due to the range of suitability offered in such a mattress. This type of mattress will be better suited toward averagely weighted people, while lighter people should opt for a medium-light, and heavier people considering a medium-firm.

24cm deep

A depth of 24cm is about right for a good quality mattress. While the depth of a mattress is not necessarily a guarantee of quality, you typically cannot get the best comfort and suport out of a thin mattress

Rolled up mattresses are ideal for anyone looking at trying to get a mattress up a tight staircase or in a car to bring home from the shops. Do not missunderstand just how troublesome getting a mattress up stairs can be. Heavy and cumbersome, sometimes a rolled up mattress that expands to the side of a full mattress anyway, may be the better option

Single sided means only one side is comfy. Positives are you only need to rotate the mattress occassionaly rather than the more cumbersome rotate and flip. Downside is the lifespan of the product may suffer as a result, only marginal, but worth mentioning.

Handcrafted in the UK

Handcrafted in the UK means that the product is built here, by people being paid a fair and honest wage using certified and safe products of good quality and construction. UK manufacturing is some of th best in the world and all of that is reflected in this product

Fire Resistant

Fire resistant does not mean the product will never catch fire, rather, it will not go up in flames quite so quickly. Resistant to fire in the same way that I am resistant to kisses, sooner or later you end up giving in.

Approved by the National Bed Federation

The NBF is one of the most prestigious awarding federations in the industry, helped slightly by the fact that it is one of the only, however, it is still a great source of comfort knowing that this product holds approval by the team

Customer Reviews For The Relyon Classic Natural Supreme 1390 Pocket Mattress

Based on 19 reviews

Suits us perfectly, but need to remember that mattress comfort is a very subjective topic. We got "assessed" by a well known bed retailer before we bought, so would recommend this as we obviously made the right choice. No more backache for the moment but we'll see as time goes on. Overall very happy.

Bought this mattress for my 90 year old father who suffers from very bad osteoarthritis and was finding a firm mattress too painful. This mattress has been perfect for him. It gives him support but being a medium soft mattress does not impact on his painful hips anywhere as much as his old mattress.

Loving my new Relyon mattress, its suprisingly hard to find a soft mattress at a reasonable price. Feels like a luxury hotel mattress but with support where you need it and you don't need to remortgage to afford it.If you want a good soft mattress I can recommend this one.

Amazing value natural mattress, good quality, well built, very soft, probably softer than expected but very comfortable. So far it's supporting us very well and we are sleeping like the proverbial baby!

Excellent mattress, so comfy! I was a bit dubious when it arrived rolled out but it sprung up beautifully after a couple of hours. Would recommend if youre wanting a soft, comfy mattress.

Arrived rolled up, opened it up and it expanded and took it's shape well. Comfy mattress, provides support but is a med/soft feel.

So pleased to have a soft but supportive mattress which moulds into your body but doesnt make you feel too hot.Highly recommend.
