Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. For example, a firm pocket spring support layer is more breathable and offers better back support but may prove unsuitable for side sleepers, the reverse is true for a soft-medium tension reflex foam support layer. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

What Makes The Dormeo Memory Classic Memory Foam Mattress Great?

Total Depth: 14cm

14cm is slightly thinner than normal for a mattress but still largely sufficient for good quality components to reside. One benefit of this depth of mattress is it is ideal for bunk beds or other limited height bed frames.

Comfort:Medium/Firm

A medium firm tension mattress is slightly firmer than your average medium mattress. This is ideal for those who either prefer a little bit more support, or, those that have a slightly higher BMI than average. You may also benefit from a medium firmness mattress where you are suffering from neck/back pain as the additional support can help prevent and alleviate these symptoms.

Memory Foam Depth:2cm

Memory foam has properties that adapt shape of your body, immediately recovering its original shape once pressure is no longer applied. It adapts to your movements without sinking, ensuring that pressure is not produced, but without the wrapping feeling which would otherwise cause unnatural posture.

Ecocell Foam Depth: 14cm

Ecocell is a next generation foam that has been designed to offer a more breathable comfort layer that brings additional air circulation and body contouring that makes sleeping a more luxurious experience. With a 3D cell structure, the Ecocell foam is soft with bounce back comfort.

Cover: Carbon Fibres

Carbon fibres within a cover might seem unusual but it actually makes a lot of sense. These mattresses feature a carbon fibre enriched cover which helps to create an anti-static dust barrier, protecting against dust particles in the air.

Medium/Firm

While the medium is a safe choice for all, medium/firm is a great option for stomach or back sleepers. Preventing the hips and pelvis from sinking lower than the shoulders it straitens the spine. Medium/Firm mattresses can be medium-firm across all layers, a combination of a medium top with a firm core or a firm top with a medium core.

14cm

14cm is slightly thinner than normal for a mattress but still largely sufficient for good quality components to reside. One benefit of this depth of mattress is it is ideal for bunk beds or other limited height bed frames.

Memory & Ecocell foam layers:

This mattress has 2 layers of foam which, when combined offer a balanced and supportive sleep that is both breathable and comfortable.

Rolled mattress in a box:

Roll up mattresses, also known as bed-in-a-box mattresses are fairly new to the scene, first cropping up via the likes of Eve and Simba back in 2016. Since then there has been a rise in popularity due to their lower price point (due to delivery and storage costs) and their convenience for getting up stairs. Typically these mattresses have much the same support and comfort as a traditional mattress even with the positive points mentioned.

Breathable Ecocell foam:

Ecocell foam offers consistent full-body support. It reduces unnecessary strain whilst moving or repositioning at night moving in tune with the body. It has excellent durability and insulation properties reducing heat in the summer and providing warmth in the winter. Not only is it 100% recyclable it is also made from 100% recycled material, producing 94% less CO2 emissions than PE foam of the same size.

Supportive memory foam layer:

This relates to the top layer of the mattress. In this case the top layer is one of memory foam. This is a great choice for those looking for the ultimate in comfort. Memory foam was developed by NASA and has bouncy rebounding technology that feels like you are sleeping on a cloud.

Anti-allergenic:

Anti-allergenic means that the product will be suitable for not aggravating an allergy further and is intended or prepared for those suffering from an allergy. This makes the product ideal for those looking to prevent or relieve allergic symptoms.

Sanitized® protection:

Sanitized protection of a mattress is where a unique anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-dust-mite agent is used on the cover of the mattress, leaving a safe, healthy and hygienic sleep surface

Enriched with carbon fibres:

Carbon fibres within a cover might seem unusual but it actually makes a lot of sense. These mattresses feature a carbon fibre enriched cover which helps to create an anti-static dust barrier, protecting against dust particles in the air.

Anti-dust mite treatment:

This mattress is treated with a dust-mite repelling substance. Common repellents include:Purotex®Adaptive®Fresche®

No flip, just rotate design:

This is a one sided mattress that does not need to be flipped. This means that the fillings and comfort layer will only be on one side. Do note however, that you should still rotate the mattress every 3 months to ensure even wear and less chance of dipping during settlement

No transfer of movement:

As the name suggests, this mattress is built with decent core components that mean that movement does not transfer across the mattress. This means your partner can be rolling around or jumping about and have it not impact your sleep.

Air Vents:

Side air vents help improve breathability within the mattress, ensuring it remains fresher for longer while also helping to displace any heat build-up while using the mattress. With increased airflow you have a fresher and cooler mattress.

Made in Italy:

Italian law dictates that only products that are totally made in Italy can use the made in Italy mark, giving you the confidence that this product has been planned, manufactured and packaged in Italy for sale across the UK.

Great value - terrific mattress

We bought this mattress for a spare bed and are delighted with it. It's incredibly comfy and supportive. Fantastic value for money. I was a little hesitant at ordering a rolled up mattress as I have heard that they smell toxic for weeks on end. Well, this doesn't smell at all! It plumped up to full thickness within a few hours and was ready to sleep on. Seriously considering a Dormeo for our bed now. As an aside - delivery (by DX) was fantastic; the mattress arrived in 4 days with lots of emails keeping us in touch with its delivery. All in all, we had a great service.
