Oakland Tall Slim Bookcase

A bit disappointed with this purchase on two counts.Felt it should have arrived fully assembled your competitors items do the hinge to me weakens the structure somewhat it finally went together and perhaps it was me but I felt there was too much manipulation and moving to get screws to fit. Is it well built and value for money not sure.We wanted to order some other items from Cotswold co but in the end found Oaklange range limited and they do not offer any means of special order so kitchenisland notordered as could not have one in Ouland finish and definitely could not have marble top even suggest Oaklandwood finish and we would fit a top but not available this stopped us ordering table and dresser. Delivery and communication great but really no flexibility perhaps expectations unrealistic in this factoryproduced world but have to ask as this is what we needed.

We have purchased a number of items form Cotswold over the years, and as before, this bookcase fully met our expectations. Solidly built and well finished. We were surprised at just how many books we could get in it.One of the screw holes had not been drilled and the threaded insert was missing, but quite frankly it had so many other screws holding the top panel in position that I had no hesitation in using it as it was, and it can only be seen by the spiders anyway.To summarise, very solidly built, well designed, attractive finish and while not cheap, probably reasonable value for money these days.We will certainly be purchasing again from this company. We ordered the Oakland Tall Slim Bookcase from the Norwich store. We were just browsing but were so impressed by the quality of the bookcase we bought it there and then! This was extremely easy to put together, we had it up and in place within about 10 minutes. You can tell it's well made - it feels really solid and the fixings are spot on. A great buy - we will probably be getting another one soon. Thanks to the sales lady Lucy - she was polite, efficient, knew the products well and arranged our delivery for the following morning (for only 5). Very impressed.

This bookcase was exactly what I wanted. It fits perfectly into the space I had reserved for it and, because of the adjustable shelves, accommodates perfectly the books and other items for which I bought it. Just one negative comment: your website said "minimal assembly". In fact, apart from the hinges which were already attached, it was complete assembly. This is a point to be taken I to account if, like me, you are small, elderly and not particularly strong as it is quite a heavy unit to manipulate.

I found the assembly instructions very poor and as a result, ended up screwing three screws through the face of the bookcase. The resultant splintered holes are at the bottom of the bookcase so can't generally be seen unless you look closely but knowing they are there has spoilt my experience. I also think it should be more clear that the base needs to be fitted before the back or like me, you'll have to undo what you've done and start again.

Ordered online and item was delivered by next day service which I had opted for. Was kept informed at all stages of delivery This book case is flat packed, with the front fascia being attached by a long hinge to the sides and assembly went well. It looks impressive and I even ordered the wider Oakland bookcase as I was so pleased with the quality of this item. Goes well with all my other furniture I have.Highly recommended.

this tall slim bookcase is a beautiful piece of furniture. If space is at a premium, as in my living room, this item fits very well, as it is less than a foot deep (11 inches) and about 2 feet wide, so, its 'footprint' is small, but, the big advantage is it utilises the height and provides 5 shelves the height of each one very variable. So, very easy assembled, good quality, infact I think I am going to buy another one.

Really love this bookcase it fits perfectly in my lounge and looks great. If you want a solid, tall, slim oak bookcase there is none better and the quality is superb. The reason for only 4 stars in the build quality is that the hinge layout puts it under stress when you are building it on your own, the doweling system is quite awkward to locate at the bottom, but otherwise it's very good.

Having bought larger book cases from this range I was disappointed that this one came flat pack and , therefore, when assembled has a joined edge. This produces a much heavier , out of balance side. I also do not like the piano hinge that is now needed. I do, however, approve the space saving for transport. I bought two and one went together much more easily than the other.

Disappointed in the design and workmanship of this product. I was expecting the dowels/holes to be a precision fit and fasteners to be hidden. The two piano hinges that run the full height of the product although hidden when stocked with books are unsightly. This product would be better accurately assembled with dowels and fittings in the factory and shipped assembled.

The book case certainly looks good in it's position in the hall. It was easy to assemble though I was surprised at certain aspects of the build. These were the piano hinges that secure the front and sides and the dowels which were undersize. Luckily the screws were sufficient to hold things together. Otherwise it's a solid piece of furniture that should last for years.

Arrived well packaged but missing the handle and 4 of the shelf supports. The other four shelf supports were inside the cupboard. Called the Cotswold company who promised to send the missing items. That was two weeks ago, nothing yet received. Ive made my own shelf supports and fitted a bit of string to use as a handle.

A useful tall narrow bookcase for tight spaces. Well built and easy to assemble. It should be fixed to the wall and the bracket provided is not the best and a rigid version should be used. The wavy top section is probably not to everyone's taste but it is not very visible. Straight and square would have been better.

This comes as a flat pack. Ours arrived without and screws or shelf holders or any instructions how to put it together. Called them and some of the fitting kit arrived a couple of days later. Called again and a couple more bits arrived. Still three pieces of the fitting kit missing. Wouldnt recommend it on this basis.

Not as big as you will expect, the actual useable shelf size is less then the dimension stated. Instructions are poor and needs a bit of thought. The quality is ok and it looks good with our other Oakland furniture, But it was hit or miss whether I would keep or return it because of the size difference. ??

Bought this bookcase yto match one I had bought a year ago. Was amazed that the price had gone up by exactly 100 in just one year, but had to pay it as I wanted a matching pair of bookcases. Good quality piece of furniture however, and 'does what it says on the tin' - holds books, DVDs and CDs!

Very pleased with this bookcase. Value for money is excellent. Very easy to assemble. Looks great in my kitchen as it actually matches the kitchen units. Using it to hold my collection of cookery books. Would have no hesitation in ordering other items of furniture from Cotswold in the future.

Nice, but I had to return the first one as it was damaged. Appreciated how well a replacement was organised -quickly and it had been quality checked before dispatch. Took a bit longer than anticipated to build. Would like the option of having it delivered fully assembled, even if it cost more.

Looks beautiful in our study, just what we needed for the space available. Good that you could choose different shelf heights as some bookcases had fixed shelves. Now the larger books are at the bottom and smaller books nearer the top. Would recommend especially if space is a factor.

The book shelves were extremely well packed and arrived in excellent condition. They were easy to put together.We were looking for tall but slim bookshelves to fit our chimneybreast alcoves, and they have fitted very well.I would definitely buy from this company again.

A beautifully crafted bookcase with minimal self assembly. The wood is heavy and substantial and the finish belies the very economical price. We are delighted with our purchase and as always,Cotswold Co.has come up trumps with a quality item at a very fair price.

An excellent quality piece of oak furniture. Despite coming flat packed- it was so well constructed with clear instructions that it was very easy to assemble. Capacious despite it's size and beautifully "dresses" the space . Very happy. Great value for money.

Communication on sale & delivery was excellent. Bookcase was very good value specially as we had an additional discount. Have had many favourable comments from friends. We did shop around & consider this was definitely the best value.

These seem fine but do we warned that self assembly is required and the instructions could be better. Once assembled they seem very sturdy. They were bought to replace pine bookcases and improve the look of our front room.

I love how the colour of the wood changes with the light. The large sideboard is perfect in my dining room. The quality of this piece of furniture is really excellent. The dovetailing in the draws shows the build quality.

Nice piece of furniture- third piece to match others in the same range in the one room. Disappointing that the height is lower than two cabinets that were purchased. This comes flat-packed unlike the other two pieces.

Good looking bookcase and fairly solid. Didn't expect quite so much self build. Chrome hinges at front stand out and are flimsy. Although not in sight screw holes at the back are bigger than screws leaving a a gap.

A substantial piece of furniture which was easy to put together but needed two people because it is heavy. Finish is excellent and looks good in the room. Good value and will last and last. Very pleased indeed.

Loving this set of shelves, good to find a smaller set that works well in a small space. Build quality excellent and easy to put together. Very solid and not an orangey colour as some oak can be. Would recommend.

Bought numerous items and always been happy until this one. The dimensions are shown with a 30cm depth but when measured it is only 27cm. The 30cm relates to the depth of the top lintel. This is very misleading.

The Oakland book case is just perfect for the space I had available. It is very well built, I would suggest you use the wall fittings that come supplied with it as it would be easily pulled over by young ones.

Lovely item, and a great space saver. Holes for bottom shelf were not aligned at all, so had to do makeshift alterations to fit the base properly.Apart from that, it looks great, stylish, and would recommend

Reasonably easy to put together.Well built.Instructions didn't mention the washers that were included / necessary for construction.Looks really good, and our cookbooks are all happily ensconced.

we are really pleased with the bookcase, the quality of it, and the service from Cotswold. I t took us a little time put it together with all the dowels and screws, but managed eventually.

Definitely a two handed job. Worried when assembling unit as piano hinge seemed to be resisting the final position the sides needed to be at. Good looking piece of furniture.

Lovely bookcase. It was the fact that the shelves are adjustable that drew us to this particular bookcase, giving the option of different sized books.

Assembly required but when it is put together it looks very sturdy & nice. Good quality. Perhaps the manufacturers could make it fully assembled.

bit fiddly to put together, took about 40mins on my own. Once up you would never know it had been a flatpack though - really solid and very neat.
